TEKKEN 7 | Lounge

Most of those players play several characters in tournament (Knee played at least 4 during Rev Major), so it doesn’t bother me at all.

and at the end you want to see top level play at the finals and thats what they deliver.
it shouldnt matter who plays or where he comes from, being a skillfull player and showing off exactly that is what matters.

I think that’s the reason why Tekken isn’t as popular in the west.
Everyone from the US and Europe is trash at Tekken except Anakin.

Western audiences want their western heroes to prevail or at least make top 8, and there’s not chance they will with getting the game over 2 years late and having no arcade competition to train with.

Went ahead and made the video. Not sure if this can promote other possibilities in the future or not. In my mind, I’d guess it can help for future research in punishing attacks (ie Paul’s Deathfist) that normally can’t be Rage Art punished due to pushback.

europe is best selling area for tekken games.
than these western heroes have to git gud and till they are not people have to accept that the asians are at the moment better.

Not sure if he’s competing much these days. But I’d love to see Mad Dog Jin represent Hwoarang at Evo. He’s been playing/streaming a lot lately.

I dont think you understand the part where he basically said “western players didnt get this game for 2 years and only for several weeks have we had competition to level up with”.

I still think it was a mistake to even have staged side tournaments EVO of this game where all you saw was the koreans and shit playing it. Like OF COURSE theyre gonna be tops. Theyre the ONLY ONES with access to it! Theres no “git gud” about that shit. It just felt pointless. And Vandelay is right in that no American or European will probably top because of that inherent lack of practice. Its not like there could have been much done about it. Because every time Namco doesnt take its time with arcade ports you end up in a Soul Calibur (3-5) situation where its so terribly balanced and thought out that the game just fizzles and dies in a matter of a few weeks. AT LEAST Tekken 7 has the proper balance right out of the gate. Even I can’t complain about that…except i wish Gigas was better for people who liked him.

I saw some old vids of him recently…I think his play style is too wild…unless his tournament play is different.
Never hurts to see hwoarang in the finals.

edit: I thought you meant seeing MDJ in top 8, which I don’t think he has a chance to do.

how does that change what i said.
yes the asian comp is better at the moment and they will dominate this year for sure.
to change that people have to git gud now so that they can challenge them next or at the end of this year.

instead to be happy that these people actually travel so that tournament people can get first hand high level play experience to level
up i hear just complaints about them getting the game earlyer. they did…nothing you can do beside of trying to git gut and reach theire level.

i would rather watch a culturally diverse top 8 than see one where an entire region take it over. if i just wanted to watch koreans play each other, I have youtube arcade sets i can watch. Like i said before, pools will be fun to watch, but if the tops are just dominated by one region, Ill consider EVO over for me (theres no KI this year, and thats more fun to watch) and just say this was a good year for Tekken.

As long as the matches are exciting, I seriously don’t give a fuck.

most of the top players for america did travel and learn the different builds
heck one of the people i played with stayed in japan for a year and got really good with xiayou
most of the old school players and top ones for america have the feel of the game already. seriously because unlike other games tekken aside from a few system modifications basically has been the same game for years.
not to mention most of the people in korea dont frequent the same spot
heck you gotta think jdcr has been traveling playing people from all over hes actually been playing the americans for a while
i think the top 8 willl be diverse as you say but the reason why americans dont place high is because they are impatient
most of them and they are gimmicky instead of learning proper movement and neutral.
but cuddle core, speedkicks anakin, mr naps, nyc fab and bronson can change that.

Idk why you would think anything else. it might be very well be knee and jdcr in the finals again but the road to there will be exciting and i predict it least 2 americans in top 8

Tekken 8 will be worldwide launch and let Murricans whoop on Asian ass.

I understand, you want the storyline aspect…surprised I don’t see you in the wwe general discussion thread…

I would love to see Mr. Naps or Bronson or some OG US tekken player in the top 8. As long as there’s more character diversity than Dragonuv and Jack. Or if an American Paul Player comes in there and starts deathfisting people I would be fine with that too.

But JDCR has an equally entertaining Heihachi to me and Knee has a Devil Jin.

I like JDCR’s Hei because that’s like the only time you see that character in top 8.

Kinda of weird that we don’t see a lot of Paul in tournament top eights.
I mean I’m hella noob, but I think that Paul has a lot of good pokes, gets really dangerous at the wall and has obscene damage.

One thing that annoys me though, is that the frame counter is not working for me. That makes it tough for me to practice thrusters and deathfists properly, since I never know how close I am to do the crouch dash in 2 frames.

Anyone still uses the frame counter mod and does it still work for you on the latest version?

I mean its not just Anakin. Jimmy J Naps and Bronson are both pretty legendary, JFJ and Rip are pretty solid too

Edit: I completely forgot about Fab, Speeddicks, PLing, maybe Kor might do something.

paul is high risk, high reward
you gotta condition your opponents
but he is massively unsafe on alot of stuff and while hes great theres just too much potential to get blown up I think he always has a punchers/deathfist chance though

Another reason I don’t think it will be an all Asian final is because Evo is a side by side tournament not head to head.

Side by side definitely has a psychological difference

Aris (whos streams are somehow teaching me Tekken) mentioned that a lot of characters who do well in online pickup matches don’t do as well in tournament play. I think Paul fits this mold. The first time I play a Paul player I normally get whooped (my lack of skill doesn’t help) however I can hold my own and even sometimes win in the rematch. I don’t know about top level but at low level, if you can work out your spacing to avoid the death fist, Paul seems limited in his pokes and other tools.

WRT the possibility of an all Asian to 8, as long as the play is good I don’t really care who is in the finals. The 5 round JDCR vs Knee winners final at Rev Major was really good to watch. If top 8 is at that level you wont care what nationality the players are.
