youre right. it can be just as if not easier for them to be better with better characters. but its who they feel comfortable with. strider/doom sucks. but clock has killed many with it. he has tried top tier teams a couple times from what I saw and he just didnt feel it. so he went back to strider.doom. I recently saw Leedy (top player from korea) who originally uses kaz trying out dj. from just watching I can tell he wasnt comfortable. Iean with his skills it was still an impressive dj, but not as natural as his godlike kaz. thats all it is.
Are Kings grab strings affective in tournaments? I know 2 but can only really pull off 1 consistently.
King’s multithrows are effective if:
- They don’t press any buttons while you’re doing them.
- They don’t know the breaks to the strings.
- They didn’t escape the starter throw.
- You mix up his strings so they put in the wrong breaks every time (unless they’re the kind of players that watch your hands when doing multistrings in order to get the right break everytime…).
So in general, I’d say they’re not too effective in high level tourney play IF you’re playing on a side-by-side cabinet and you and your opponent are both using the sticks and he can look at your hands to input the correct break. But if you’re playing on a head-to-head where they can’t see your hands or you’re playing on a pad, you have a shot at pulling it off unless you’re obviously only relying on the same string and they break out everytime… Then there’s the question of landing the starter…
Random Tekken 5 question: Where is the love for the Fat Bastard (Ganryu)?
The best multis to use (if you want to use them at higher levels) would be the f,n,d,df+1+4 and the f,n,d,df+2+3. The others have the most obvious start up animations, most people will duck them on reaction. You should also learn the tricks behind “hiding” your button inputs, that King users can do (e.g, mashing inputs) so if people do look, they have to think about their break.
Then again, King players have varying opinions regarding the usage of the multis, so experiment and see what works out best for you.
soo, you are too kind. your feng destroyed my asuka last time we played and i doubt it changed since then.
kings multis are useful if you can get em in there. ive mashed his multi plenty of times in tournaments, even in socal regionals. it doesnt hurt to try.
mashing is the way to go though. from what i know, its random which throw string you do.
i use just about every character. i know how to use nina, bryan, and steve. but i use ling in tournaments. why? because i have setups and strats. shes more comfortable for me.
some people are more turtles and like devil jin. some people like to rush down and use nina. its all about preference.
i think that jop would do worse with nina.
I dont mash the grab strings i memorized 1. But i sometimes input the command twice incase i missed the timing.
What is the most advantageous gameplan(s) to use when playing as Raven? Is he an 8F jabber?
Are Feng and Bryan similiar style fighters? I use both and do so only because they fit my style. Is there any relation to both of em?
not really. If anything, feng feels a little bit like paul while playing… but still pretty damn different. Feng is more of a “stuff-your-face” character. d/f+1, b+1, b+1+2… oh yeah.
So let us in on this valuable Asuka ‘ish’ Soo says you’ve got, from one Asuka player to another.
Most of the Asuka ish has already been said in the thread at one time or another. Its no big secret on how to play her. Its just implementing the moves into the match itself and being very careful with what you do and dont use.
I went against some fierce comp yesterday at CTF.
I still feel a bit uncomfortable playing with her. Most of the time I don’t even throw anything out unless I can just launch after it. Bryan had me running though, I didn’t really know what to do against him.
:\
anna is cheap as fawk.
Is that so?
I was thinking of learning her next.
I’m curious as to why you think that though Soo.
well she does have the most damaging wall combo. Im assuming you know it already. and its not at all hard to get her to the wall to do it.
also, her d/f+1,2 mixups are pretty good and damaging. had namco gave her an u/f+1 she would be top tier for sure. but then that would be pushing it. her only REAL weakness is her oki game. her oki game sucks with the worst of them. other than that she is a solid ass character. that wall combo is just nasty to look at.
So far the most damaging wall juggle I’ve seen is Nina’s… although it is very hard to do, but some players can actually do it… Example…
Start of round… d,d/b+3, d/f+3,2~SSL+1~b~u/f+4, 1,4, <wall> d/f+1,2,1,2,f+1+2 = about 90%
Nina’s 1,2,1,2,f+1+2_d/f+1,2,1,2,f+1+2 is sooo damaging… timing is strict though.
Ganryu is fun !
Bah, Marduk can do more, and it’s a lot easier. Assuming they don’t guess right off the ground throw of course.
Wow. A Tekken thread at SRK with more than 10 pages.
Anybody play with Julia here??
