That said, “Hyper Media Squat” plus “Foot Twist” is legit and can get pretty tiring. But we’re getting off topic.
Here’s a more Tech Talk oriented discussion starter for this thread:
Everyone always talks about what stick they prefer for shmups (I’m an LS-32 guy), but it’s not often people discuss what buttons they prefer. For me, I find Sanwa to be perfect for fighters, but too sensitive for shmups. I’m also not a big fan of the feel of ever-popular Seimitsu KN buttons (just something about them). After a brief trial with all the 30mm buttons Seimitsu makes, I finally settled on PS-14-G buttons. I like the feel of the completely flat top, and the responsiveness is perfect for me. (and at some point I need to have a “Seimitsu button blowout” sale in the Trading Outlet)
So what buttons do you prefer?
Chō Aniki: Kyūkyoku Muteki Ginga Saikyō Otoko is available in the Playstation Store under the PS One imports section. Between this and Muscle March on the Wii, it’s easy to have a protein-powered Super Big Brother night of gaming.
I’m the opposite and prefer the more sensitive Sanwa buttons for shmups.
Isn’t the PS1 version one of the shittier ones?
That said mmm… protein.
SANWA buttons are crap for mashing IMHO and you can’t rest your non-firing fingers on the other buttons because of the hair-trigger they have. Seimitsu PS-14 FTW. I have both Pearl and the ones with a clear plunger, and they’ve never failed my yet. HAPP buttons are better than SANWA for shmups, but I find them tiring for longer sessions.
Your stating an Opinion not Fact. Everyone has their own preferences.
Who says I mash?
And even when i do, I only ever have two fingers on the stick - hitting the same button for that good old two finger step.
P.S. This is Tech Talk, unlike other sections of SRK, saying stuff like this straight out is quite frankly frowned upon and could possibly get you infracted.
As much as I respect your mod status, d3v, it’s heavy handed to threaten infraction for a statement which is tempered with “IMHO.” He’s not making an absolute statement, he is voicing his opinion (IMHO == In My Humble Opinion). I’m pretty sure tech-talk is not anti-opinion… are we?

I just don’t like the way “IMO/IMHO” can be used as a cop out way to justify inflammatory statements. Instead of saying that “xxx is crap IMHO” it would be better to instead use something less inflammatory like “yyy is better than xxx for so-and-so IMO.”
“Crap” is inflammatory? Don’t go to rest of SRK, d3v.
I didn’t know about this until I logged onto XBL for the first time in about a month. I was under a friend’s account so I haven’t grabbed it yet but I’m glad some things are making their way over the sea. Here’s hoping Radiant Silvergun makes its way also.
As you may or may not have noticed, we’ve been trying to hold Tech Talk up to a much higher standard than the rest of the site.
There are details on RS on the other thread in GD I believe.
Tech Talk Drama Parry!
Back to the discussion:
Being able to ‘snare drum’ the button with ease is one of the things I did love about using Sanwa buttons for shooters. Problem is I’m not snappy enough, and in games like Giga Wing and Mars Matrix, I always seemed to activate my Reflect Barrier by mistake. Fail on me, not on the hardware.
For shmups, I can see that. Certainly if you don’t like how sensitive Sanwa buttons are, Happ is about as opposite as you can get. Although they have to be convex Happ buttons. It’s so tough going back to concave after playing on Japanese parts for so long.
RS’ release date is September 14th on XBLA.
Okay after discussing it with some of the regulars, we’ve come to the conclusion that this thread doesn’t really fit in Tech Talk and that it is kinda redundant seeing as we do have an existing thread dedicated to STGs. So, unless we can actually find a way to make this thread relevant to Tech Talk, I’m going to have to shut it down in favor of the thread in GD.
I’m sorry if I stepped on toes as sensitive as SANWA’s buttons. I didn’t say that SANWA’s are crap. I said that in my opinion (as a shmup player), SANWA buttons (I’ve even tried with RG’s) don’t mix well with the genre. I also think that SUZO 500 is the best stick (for shmups) but I’m positive that it’s not all all made for fighting games. Discussing what sticks/buttons fits what genre best is technical discussion though…
Were not losing a popular thread, its just being moved
Well, we can have an STG thread in Tech Talk, but it needs to be focused on Tech Talk related stuff, i.e. running STG cabs/boards and arcade parts/stick configurations for STGs.
So maybe tear this thread out and start a new one that strictly states it’s for hardware talk, not games you like?
I’m getting the Thread removed from Tech Talk if there is conversation about STG games scores and new games and replay and jazz.
So I was wondering what would be your recommended part list for a dedicated shump stick?
