I got halfway through that video and decided that I hate Alpha 3.
thats an old video
and yeah that confirms alot of stuff about player 2 side being broken… thus back in the day we flipped a coin for sides
Are you guys still driving to evo? I thought I had a sweet deal on some plane tickets but the deal charges double for connecting flights and the airline only has connecting flights from dfw to vegas so… it ended up sucking and the prices are jacked up now since it’s way too late. I would probably consider carpooling if you guys are still going.
Since i cant cant get ahold of Gual or eddie, I only have room for 4. So basically you can come if Joro or OJ flake out.
Alright Acie, here are a few things that I noticed that you should work on when playing MvC2.
Magneto-
: First thing you wanna focus on is being able to hit confirm Mag’s c. light kicks with an assist. Usually if someone blocks your light kicks, you don’t try to follow up with anything else, you can, especially since your assist will be putting your opponent in extra block stun, you get frame advantage and you can go on the offense again. Also, if you plan on using your assist for a Mag combo (ie c.lk, c.lk into rocket punch into five fierce air combo) hit the first c.lk and the assist together at the same time. Also, if you are using rocket punch assist with Mag, space out c.lk c.lk. Since if you land the first c.lk and you are using RP assist, it’ll come out too slow and it will be blocked.
Anyways, back to my first point, if your oppoenent blocks your light kicks either do a triangle jump (you can also cross up the opponent if they are crouching) or go for a c.lk xx launcher. Mag has so much bullshit that even if the first set of c.lk’s are blocked, you can still mix up your opponent pretty easy.
:Practice your tri-jump execution. And I’m talking about being able to tri-jump attack with light kicks and fierce and roundhouse attacks. The hard attacks can make you land on the ground faster if you don’t hit an opponent (either it be sucessful hit or not) this will help you out even more when it comes to mixing up opponents.
:Mess around with his basic ROM infinite set-up. Which would be launcher, super jump, roundhouse, air dash down, light kick, light kick, then you’ll land. Practice that first and get use to the motion.
Cable-
: First and foremost, NEVER…EVER use Hyper Viper Beam on the ground. It’s not safe on block, and it’s pretty much not safe even if it hits. Learn to either tiger knee motion into AHVB, or skimitar xx into AHVB. You’re favorite combo (gunshots xx viper beam xx HVB) will get you killed cause you are using HVB on the ground. If you are going to do that combo, instead of the viper beam, do the skimitar xx into AHVB. You need to really teach yourself not to do that move on the ground, I cannot stress it enough if you are playing Cable.
:While I’m talking about tiger knee’s and what-not, also get use to using tiger knee gernades if your opponent is mid screen away or further. I’ll have to show you different examples of what version of the move to use later on, but for now, just get use to executing the move.
:Practice lk, lk, roundhouse, xx AHVB. When you miss the move it is usually because you are doing the motion for AHVB really early. After the roundhouse hits, wait about half a second or more, and then do the motion. If you do not jump but do the super, you did the motion too early, if you do the AHVB correctly, but your opponent blocks it, you did it way too late. The cancel is very lieniet, so just get used to doing it a few moments later. OR You can do lk, lk, roundhouse xx skimitar xx AHVB. It’s more motion required, but you don’t have to wait to cancel out the roundhouse, you can do it anytime after the move hits.
Sentinal-
:Practice rocket punch xx hyper sentinal force combo. Practice the repetitions of the combo for a good while until you got the hang of it, and practice it on different weight classes. (ie sent, cable, storm/psylocke)
Also remember that if you’re opponent is near the corner, launch them instead of doing another rep of the combo. You don’t use meter, and damage scaling affects the combo after about 2 or so reps depending on the character.
:With Sentinals normal moves, practice canceling the moves by going into fly mode, and then leaving fly mode as fast as possible. This is a big part of Sentinals game is being able to be moble while he puts his opponent in block stun. Don’t worry about stomp chains and whatever just yet, just get used to the feeling of doing the fly motion out of Sentinals normals, both on the ground, and in the air.
This may seem like a lot, but really, it’s going to be about exection for right now. Get used to what I just posted and then we’ll get into some of the more advanced crap. Like fast flies and stomp chains, Mag’s resets, good ways to use Cable’s air roundhouse, etc. etc.
Definitely, thanks mike.
If you really wanna get good, have a sit down with someone who knows the game and theyll explain whats poppin. ask the marvel peeps whats good and whats not, theyll tell you wsup. i can play team row if i happen to see you at jonnys so you can see how it plays. i want you to be able to beat linh. (it doesnt take much)
Yeah…just ask David.
Good luck to you guys that are going to evo. Hey Mike, do you think it’s possible that I can get a copy of mvc2 for dc from you tomorrow? I’ve also decided to mess with team Combofiend (Iron/Mag/Sent) since I can do the Iron man infinite and his bnbs (even though I hate the character, thank you Turbo.) My biggest concerns right now though are my Mag/Sent. I lack Sent BNBs and strats minus the obvious and I’m kind of stuck on mags aside from knowing that I need to practice my trijumps and adds/wavedash. On a good note though, Johnny explained throwing mechanics. I didn’t realize crouch canceling was necessary but It’s pretty damn easy anyways. If anyones up for some games tomorrow let me know. I need all of the gg/mvc2 I can get.
Man Acie…you used to be cool. Now? Man I dunno. Shit
instead of making useless posts why dont you try playing a fighting game once in awhile?
man i give props to acie for trying to learn a new game. just stick with it man i mean afterabout a year shiut i get wins on john irving and others and befoire i use to think it was hopeless… but just takes time. especiially for you since you never grew up with this kinda game.
So I assume jorge and OJ are both ending up going to evo?
Yes. Yes we are.
oh, and ive found that the slide method is much easier for me in this game with mags. especially sj, add, rh stuff. ah, it feels fucking great to have gotten past that barrier because i wasnt following 5 fierce up with shit until now.
pkmays…where are you??
Kyle, do you still live in Lubbock?
Does Linh like, even play anymore?
hes just been busy with finishing school and getting teh jobs. also good luck to those going to evo… i sure wish i was going but till next year. sadly i have teh moneys now too.
andrew you got pm man.
I just dont get any satisfaction in playing a game that I don’t want to play. Maybe its just me. Plus there’s no future in fighting games anyway. They’re already pretty much extinct.
