TE2 Crossbone - Electrical mods made significantly easier for the Madcatz TE2

I wanted legacy support at the time since we were playing a ton of old games locally at the time. I did the install before I got the info on how to get legacy support. I just kept it like that since. Gonna test another USB cord now

also make sure your crossbone is fully seated, had the same problem when it was slightly lifted but not noticeably.

So I soldered on an old USB cable I had laying around to the TE2 board. It works. I previously checked the seating on the crossbone, and it seemed to be down as far as it could go. I’m using the old straight twenty pin header. I got a right angles one and a Brook Fightboard coming tomorrow, so I’ll just install the right angle 20pin on the crossbone for more clearance and go from there.

so if that works then either something came off from the OG connector or from wherever it’s soldered to.
or your cable/breakaway cable is bad

The OG connector was soldered to USB out on the crossbone. I guess I could solder the USB cable to USB out on the the crossbone the check and see if that works, or is there a simpler way to see if the cable is bad that I’m not thinking of? Btw, thanks for the help Vicko. You’re the best!

if you meter the usb cable you can check if the cable is bad

otherwise, make sure the OG connector is soldered securely to either the crossbone or the TE2 PCB

I dropped one of the screws that holds the TE2 pcb in place. Anyone know what size they are?

you realistically only need 2. I’m guessing there are 4, correct? Put them on opposite corners

There are two. The other corners have little columns that fit in larger holes. I tried just putting the one screw in, but sometimes the opposite corner raises. I’m sure that could be a problem while playing.

Oh, those screws come from the plastic PCB cover, which you removed to install the crossbone.

You can get by with the one screw or if you find the cover, use those too.

Ok. So I’ve verified that it was just the te2 connector that was bad. My crossbone and te2 pcb work fine. Now can someone verify that the setup that I have planned is correct? I got the crossbone,ps360+, brook Fightboard and an imp. I will have pin 5 and 6 on the ps360+ Jst harness going to sys2 on the crossbone. USB out data lines on the crossbone will go to D and E on the imp. The rest of the Jst harness pins will go to the imp to complete the wiring like this:
Pin 1-G Pin 2-A Pin 3-B Pin 4-C Pin 5-sys2 Pin 6-sys2 Pin 7-F Pin 8-V

I’d then wire up the USB points on the Brook board the the appropriate spots on the imp and use the rj45 Jack on the imp to my neutrick jack. Is this way of wiring to the imp fine?

When you write it out, it sounds more complicated than it is. Here’s a pic:

XD- XD+ brook
D E crossbone
VCC V 5
GND A Ground
F switch button for imp
5 6 or D- D+ to sys2
I prefer to invert because only KI is on xb1, hold whatever button to force xb1

Also, since you’re going for a quad mod, you should replace your crossbone and ps360+ with a MKX pad. 2 PCBs, 4 systems. Ezpz.

Still need ps360+ for that dreamcast and snes support. We had Shaq Fu setup last Saturday. Lol. Anyway. I get everything you listed there except for the 5 that’s on the Line after VCC V. What’s the heck does the 5 represent?

Supposed to be 5v, not sure what happened there

One last thing. Which side does the imp pick as default pcb initially?

This also assumes I’m using USB. However since I’m using rj45, I’ll need all 8 wires from the Jst harness connected correct? I started wiring everything up and noticed that I got USB out VCC and ground set to go to the imp where my rj45 VCC and ground would go. Do I share the wires on those points or is one of the pair not needed?

You can share 5 and 6

Not sure which side the imp uses first but it’s set and remember, unlike the crossbone which defaults to a certain side.

Two final questions. 1. Can I use any button for the switch on the imp as long as it’s wired to F, or does it have to be home or select?

  1. There are multiple ground points on the Brook. All I need is one for the entire board right? Or do I need to wire the ground that’s near the button points and the one that’s near the stick points etc.

can be any button
ground is ground, doesn’t matter

Too add to what Vicko here is saying, its called Daisy Chaining, the same wire goes from button to button for ground.
It makes wiring alot easier. You can buy a pre-made daisy chain wire or make your own. http://i.imgur.com/ilzSqsP.jpg

Some people will chain the joystick’s ground to the buttons and others will give the joystick wire harness it’s own ground for simplicity or ascetic reasons.

Here is a example of a daisy chain in a Hori Stick
