Tatsunoko vs. Capcom stick for Wii by Madcatz confirmed

Does the TvC stick have the same issue as some SF4 SE joysticks exhibit (metal washer grinding on the PCB)?!? I’m assuming no since it’s a different joystick & the TvC stick was released 1-year after this issue developed but it’d be nice to have confirmation, thx!

No it doesn’t.

Thx! What did they do differently w/the TvC stick?!?..Glue on the metal washer?

I bought one the other day for $24 with the intention of putting in an MC Cthulhu so I can use it with my Dreamcast and in the future switching out the buttons and maybe the stick. When I received the stick I did notice that the stick kept catching on something when I was moving it around. Opening it up I found that my stick does have the washer issue. It was popping up and catching. So I pulled apart the stick and glued it down and now it feels fine. I have a HRAP V3 SA and it’s never had that issue so while the Madcatz may have copied the Sanwa they still screwed up that washer (at least on my stick). Easy fix though.

By the way does anyone have a wiring diagram for the TvC, in particular the ribbon cables and how those wires connect? Is it the same as the Xbox and PS3 SE as far as wiring or did they do something different. And if the are the same could you point me in the direction of wiring diagram for those. I’ve been searching but not had a lot of luck.

Thanks

I think there is a bit of confusion on what the ‘washer’ issue was.

The Tatsunoko vs. Capcom FightStick definitely does not have the issue. By design the washer rests over the PCB, so just because you see that, it does not mean it has the issue. The issue was the old FightSticks had a sharp edgeon the washers that scraped against the PCB. This is not present in the new sticks.

The new parts are something we engineered from the ground up. Both the TVC and WWE All Stars sticks use these parts.

Well all I can say from the one I just bought was that the washer was catching causing the stick to hold for a split second. Enough that I noticed it as soon as it came out of the box. I wasn’t even aware of the washer issue before then until I read up on it after I noticed my stick catching. When I did open it up and looked the washer was definitely moving out of the groove and that was when the stick would catch. It may just be an anomaly with the stick I recieved but it was catching in a way the stick shouldn’t. Wether it was rubbing against the PCB I couldn’t tell you for sure, I didn’t see any visible scraping so it may not have been causing any damage but it was annoying. Once I glued it down it’s been fine since and not catching at all.

Didn’t mean to step on any toes just wanted to share what was going on with the stick I bought. After I stopped the catching it’s been a great stick and a steal for what I paid for it.

Washer catching isn’t the same as the washer scratching the PCB (which is the washer issue in question). That said, you might as well supply pics of the stick just in case.

I’ve glued the washer down already so I’m not sure pics would do any good at the this point. But I will post them anyway below, however I’m not going to take apart the stick again at this point.

Just for the record, the information at this thread: http://shoryuken.com/f177/sf4-standard-edition-fightstick-problem-defect-thread-176026/ Sound very similar to the issue I had.

The OP of that thread said

And that is exactly the issue I was having before I glued the washer down. The washer was moving out of the groove. I could feel it move out the groove when I moved the joystick, when I opened it up I could see it moving out of the groove when I looked down inside the stick and when I glued it down it took care of the problem. I wasn’t anticipating the washer issue, I found the thread about the washer issue AFTER I noticed my stick catching, and searched to see what the issue might be.

Anyway I won’t belabor the point anymore I was just posting my own experience.

Here are the pics:

For those that moved the pcb/turbo panel over to a TE, what did you have to modify exactly to make it fit? I’ve heard it’s too tall to fit in a TE.

Anyone?!? I think I have to dremel part of the USB storage compartment (horizontal part on top) in order for those 2 grey ribbons (underside of TvC turbo panel; right below the Home button) to fit otherwise, the turbo panel won’t sit flush…Can anyone confirm this is all I have to do? Thx!

Whoa whoa whoa whoa… dremel part of the top part of the USB storage compartment?! I hope you haven’t already done that; actually, I’ve been meaning to come in here and respond to your question about moving an SE turbo panel over to a TE. It’s actually quite easy & painless, here’s how…

Once the SE panel has been removed from the SE, and pcb removed from the turbo panel, ultimately leaving just the plastic molding; take a drill bit and bore out both of the screw mounts on the panel. The goal being to achieve the inner diameter of the mounts completely throughout. If that’s confusing, the mounts bottom out about 1/16" from the very bottom. Again, find a drill bit with the same ID (inner diameter) of the mounts, and just bore COMPLETELY through.

After this is done, you now have a turbo panel that will allow the posts of the TE (that mount the screws), to protrude into & through the turbo panel mount, thus allowing it to sit completely flush atop the USB storage compartment, which is the goal (hopefully this is making sense).

Now, at this point you’ve gained @ 1/16", if you’re looking to gain more height (…or less height depending on how you look at it), you can gain an additional 1/16" (so 1/8th total) by taking this next step…

What you can additionally do it take some dikes/cutters and simply snip off those 4(?) tabs holding the PCB in place from underneath the turbo panel. These are what the turbo panel is now resting on once the boring of panel mounts has been done. But once this step is taken, the turbo panel will now be resting directly on the pcb… & atop the USB compartment, but that’s nbd. And if you’re worried about the pcb coming loose, don’t. It’s held in place by four screws, so it isn’t going anywhere.

There you go; so you can either lower the height of a SE turbo panel that’s then mounted into an TE either 1/16" or 1/8". There’s just the small task of securing it. What I did was find some small washers that you slide onto the screw before tightening it down. Just make sure the diameter of the washer had a greater OD than the turbo panels mounts. These can be found in any hardware store under the heading of “miniature screws”; if you find miniature screws, you’ll find miniature washers.

If that sounds like to much of a hassle, you could probably get away with simply not using any screws at all. Since you bored out the panel, the posts of the TE kind of jail it. It’s going to move a total of a millimeter or two in any given direction. So once you screw down the top panel, I imagine you’ll be golden. Alright… hope that helps. = ]

Nope, haven’t dremel’d anything just yet. Will do so later today when I wake up. You know what?!..I actually understood all that, LOL! I guess it’s b/c I’ve examined the TE shell & turbo panel already. Thanks for all the info. Ya, I was thinking exactly what you saying (drilling out inner diameter of turbo panel screw mounts to get an extra 1/16"). I’ve never taken apart an actual SE stick from a ps3/360, only the TvC version. With that in mind, my problem is that directly on the underside of the TvC turbo panel (where the home button’s located), there are 2 grey ribbons facing down about 1/4" - 2/5" so I can’t just drill out the inner diameter of the TvC turbo panel screw mounts & be done w/it if that makes any sense. Thus the need to possibly dremel out the top horizontal part of the USB storage area about 0.5" or so. Lemme take a pic & post here later tonight so you can see what I’m saying. Again, thanks for the detailed help!

Also, how did you get the USB cable (end that connects to the PCB) through that small factory hole (leading into the USB storage area) without dremeling a big hole? At least that’s what I plan on doing unless you’ve got a better & easier idea, LOL!

Here’s what I’m talking about. Notice those 2 grey ribbons facing down & 0.5" lower than the pcb:

Wow… that’s a new one. Is this what all the new “SE” sticks look like (TvC/Brawl)?

My only other suggestion, without ever seeing it in person, is to cut the wires, remove the white mounts, and simply solder the bare wires to the surface of the PCB. That might work, and probably a wiser choice that cutting into the cable compartment.

It sounds like you have a TE shell??? Because you can simply full out replace the PCB of the TvC turbo panel with that of the TE’s. That’s what I did, and they’re identical. This is definitely not. Good luck!

Thx! Ya, I just have the TE shell (no turbo panel) since I got a good deal on the shell. I’m not concerned whatsoever about dremeling the USB cable compartment since the Wii cable (from the TvC pcb) is only 3-ft long thus it won’t get cramped & interfere w/those 2 grey ribbons. I’ll post pics after I do it tomorrow. I think it’s just the Wii pcb so you should be safe on the WWE Brawl stick pcb but then again I know that stick has an extra pcb to allow “Select + d-pad” operation.

Well I finally had time to do this mini-project the other day. It was rather straight forward since all I had to do was mod the USB storage compartment a little (dremel a vertical line & widen the USB hole). If I decide to go back to the stock setup then it won’t be a prob since I didn’t mod the home/turbo pcb panel besides widening the inner diameter of the plastic panel screw holders. The end result speaks for itself:

Yes, I know that’s not TvC artwork however, I didn’t wanna ruin the beautiful metallic foil finish of this stock MvC2 artwork. If I get a good deal on another panel then I’ll print & install the TvC artwork on it.

I just found one of these on eBay and I consider putting a PS360 PCB I had laying around in it as I have no Wii. I’d like to use the turbo+home buttons, but as this is the first Mad Catz stick in my possession I have some questions:

  1. The turbo panel, does it have LEDs showing what setting’s being used and is it possible to use the turbo functionality (the Mad Catz PCB’s) as a piggy-back of sorts, i.e. NOT using the PS360 for the Turbo use?

Or, as this stick will mainly be used for PC/emulation rather than 360 use, am I better off just buying a Wii->USB adapter as that will allow using all of the stick’s built in functions, right? Which leads me to:

  1. If I use the USB adapter, is it hard to tap into the +5V of the Mad Catz PCB to install an optical stick such as the Toodles SPARK?
