I picked up my TvC stick today at a local EB Games (aka Gamestop) for $90 CDN + tax (~$101 CDN) and tried it on the Japanese version of TvC. The first time I played it, the L button wasn’t working (didn’t test the zL/zR buttons), but the R button was working. Then I remembered that one of my pal’s TE stick’s button (I forget which button) wouldn’t work. All he did was disconnect it and reconnect and presto! It worked again. So that’s what I did. I disconnected and reconnected the stick from the wiimote and presto! my L button worked like a charm. As far as I can tell, everything else works too. My only qualm is that the buttons aren’t smoooooth like the Sanwas I’m used to. I personally like a stiffer stick (no homo) like the JLW. But it’s entirely dependent on your preferences.
Question 1: If I were to swap out the buttons for Sanwa, do I need the screw buttons or the snap ones? (I’m not familiar with the SF4 SE stick - I built my own ps3 joystick from scratch and dual modded it afterwards…)
Question 2: I know that the Round 2 TE has this lock-out mechanism when the lock is on. Does it lock out the start, select, AND home button? Or just the home? Did Madcatz give this feature to the TvC stick? Because the TvC stick still enables start/select on lock.
the lock is just for guide, your tvc stick has it dude. And you can use snap ins and screw ins, but you’ll have to file down one of the nuts on the screw in (the B button on this stick) because it’s too close to the joystick mounting. If you can - use snap ins. Makes for a flawless swap.
Actually, I believe that at least for Seimitsu screw-ins, you can simply slide the nut under the mounting bracket and work from there, no grinding required.
“Love the stick for some reason it is not being recognized by the JPN version of Tatsunoko vs Capcom…I’ve tried every button combo I can think of and it’s still not working. Hopefully it’s not defective since I snagged the only one my store got in.”
My apologies, the stick works now but due to my shaky command of the Japanese language I didn’t read that you have to unplug any Gamecube controllers from the P1 port in order to use the stick!
got samsho anthology for the wii from amazon today tested the stick out. the stick feels good and the buttons aren’t that bad . probably put semitsus in down the road . overall im impressed
Been messing around with the stick and I have to say it’s fantastic. I’m loving the matte finish. It’s just has a really nice texture to it. And the parts are fine. I’d go so far as to say that, while they’re not Sanwa, I probably wouldn’t be appalled if I saw them in a real arcade cab. The feel is different but I can’t say with absolute confidence it’s “worse.” Some people might come to prefer it.
I’m still rather in awe at the whole situation because I swore off Mad Catz years ago during the PS1 era. The shit just never worked right. If you told me ten years ago that when Street Fighter IV came out it would be Mad Catz that pushed Hori to silver medal territory I’d have laughed in your face. Between Mad Catz and Nyko I think we’re seeing some wild resurgence of third party peripherals kicking ass.
GG, MarkMan.
Though there is one major flaw I can’t overlook. Not enough Casshan. What the fuck is he doing hidden back behind Ken?
picked up this stick yesterday and after feeling and testing the stick, it actually feels and performs quite well. very close to how a sanwa jlf would feel like. the added weight to the entire joystick is quite nice too. although i already have a jlf and sanwa buttons on the way to mod, the stick it comes with is quite nice for those who want to just pick this up and play. buttons definitely need to be switched out to sanwa or another of choice though. the matte finish is also a nice finishing touch. overall, impressed with the improvement from the madcatz se sf4 sticks.
sry, if this has been asked/answered before, but can the artwork be switched out on this stick? I’ve made a couple custom sticks but haven’t ever bought one of these manufactured ones.
there’s a tutorial if you google how to change the Street fighter 4 Se artwork. need a spuger and to print the artwork at kinkos and get it lami labeled.
The stick feels SO close to a Sanwa JLF. The buttons - I like. I’ve yet to run into ANY issue with them. in fact…I might like them MORE than Sanwa? I hate how sensetive sanwa buttons are. :3 I’m. fucking. HYPED. for the game. If it sucks, oh well. I’ll just throw in a cthulu or something.
my stick came today. I own two TEs and love Sanwa. This stick has exceeded my expectations. I originally planned to mod it but not sure I need to because I’m currently playing this one game I got it for (TvC) just fine. I don’t think I’d get any improvement from using Sanwa, and it only took me about 5-10 minutes to adjust to this.
Yeah, I think I’m going to leave it stock. It’s real nice. It may be good enough that it’s close to the point where Sanwa parts would just be a matter of preference, rather than amazingly and objectively superior
Also, having lagless wireless through the wii-remote is a really nice touch
Thank you all for your impressions on the FightStick, especially feedback on the parts! I’m happy to say we are proud of our development on our new parts. Did anyone bust them out yet and compare them to the original SE parts; side by side?
There is more good stuff like this in the near future.
It’s true. You guys came closer to Sanwa than Hori ever did. I’m perfectly content with leaving this stock. It doesn’t “feel” wrong. Now for the love of all that is holy get cracking on a Happ/iL stick, dammit!
