Ahhhh don’t be like that. If you can’t make Tao work, learn somebody else until you get your execution down then come back and try her again. Don’t give up!!!
yeah i get the feeling too…
i practiced tao’s combos alot… but when it comes to online play… i fail to do the combos. most of the time. probably need more practice, but i find it hard.
i’ve fought with pro tao players and they are the ones that encourage me to try harder.
their combo’s are really precise and continuous. wished i could be at their tao skill lvls.
dun give up!!!
I’m having alot of fun with Tao myself. I can’t make up my mind at times which combo I want to destroy with, her options are endless. Still need to work on my air game but got the ground covered pretty well. Having issues against Noel and that ice car shit, but anyone else I can punish. Just got the hang of the game, so my win rate is climbing fast, lol. Hey, I never see you online, do you have your status set to offline? Hit me up for some games.
Yes, I have my status set to offline most of the time when I’m on.
I just need to play by myself most of the time, and if I let my status show as active, I’ll get a fucking invite every 30 goddamn seconds. I like having friends, but I hate that I can’t just play anymore unless I hide my status, its just a constant stream of messages and interruptions…I didn’t want my 360 to turn into some kind of facebook/IM client, but apparently that is how many people treat it.
We need some major Tao representation in the XBL team tourney on the 25th!
Get to it guys (even if you lose what the hell, its still fun, and its free) http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=198908
Is there any food included?
:3
Steamed buns make your boobies bigger.
I find the arakune match the dumbest shit ever what do I do ?
Curl up in the corner… cry
But seriously, do that first, then get down to business.
The most dangerous part of the Arakune match is obviously his lockdown, which is especially bad for Tao, since she has the lowest guard libra in the game. Because of this you have to really, really be careful. The real trick is to stay on top of him and not let him set is bull shit up. Its a little tricky with all the teleporting and crap, but everytime he does that dive move and doesn’t hit you, you can hit him before he comes up from the ground (and he can’t move as far as I’m aware till he comes back up).
You won’t have many chances to kill him, so you have to make sure you make each one count (the story of Tao’s life). If you do get cursed, there’s two ways you can handle it.
The easiest, but probably worse option is to simply poke him with a drive. It doesn’t combo, and its not exactly safe, but it will get the curse off you, and if you B cancel it you can probably start a combo. The better option is to work your way through the bugs (its a loop, so I believe its pretty predictable) and tag him with a 3c. Be ready to break throws once he gets 50% heat, he’ll probably want to pull off the throw->distortion drive combo.
Also, since you’ll likely be low on health when he is, be very, very careful of his ground unblockable super. That thing is a pita.
Really though, Arakune is probably Tao’s single worst match up, so don’t feel too bad if you lose and just keep trying.
Don’t get thrown, and don’t stand under him when he jumps
lol
So someone was talking about there being a balance patch in the Tier list thread? Hmm… not to get into speculation, but honestly the only thing Tao would need to make her higher tier is a slight increase in damage (or a decrease in proration I suppose). Maybe a touch more health, since she actually has to get in, but then again that’s why she’s so fast.
I know I suck, so my opinion is worth nothing…but right now, my problem with her is her range…the moves that start some of her really crucial BnB stuff have CRAP for range.
If she had a little better range, I feel that a LOT of the problems I am having would diminish greatly.
Just a thought from a useless noob.
Haha, my thoughts as well. A little more range wouldn’t hurt
Hmm maybe. I disagree, but that’s mainly because I’m getting over the range hurdle. If anything, I like that she’s such a close range in-your-face character. The difficulties in getting in would, imo, be offset by a increase in her damage dealing ability. I guess to me her character doesn’t really feel like its supposed to be able to reach out and poke
I.e - her primary disadvantage and difficulty would remain as it always was, getting in. But once in her punishment would be more severe.
But then again, I really, really like close range characters (hence playing Rufus in SFIV, etc.) so I’m a little biased.
BTW some of her moves actually have fairly good range, they’re just not the best pokes because of speed. For example, see 5c, its a nice poke and has pretty good range, on counter hit it even leads into a really damaging combo. However its really freaking slow to come out
EDIT: Not trying disrespect anyone’s opinion of course, that’s just my take on the character. I’d hate to see her fundamental abilities change, I’d like her to work within her limitations.
I would really hate to see the game “balance patch” if it causes the game to be different from the actually arcade. I would have to stop playing it then. I plan to stick to arcade mode fully. Anyways, I found relying on Tao’s D~?(A/B/C)>?? to use to it’s advantage for the lack of range. Even if you feel the lack of range is there, Tao is still one of the fastest moving characters in the game.
On a real tip, I saw mentioned, was her lack of damage in her moves. Her versatile combos strings can make up for this, from what i’ve seen in top Tao players. I can see Tao being easily a top tier, if you ask me.
So has anyone tried to transcribe the combos that Kazu does? It seems that almost all of the loops he does gets at least 4000 damage.
I figured out what most of my problem is. Teching out of stuff. I’ll tech out only to land right back in the combo no matter which direction I tech. Its fucking frustrating. Even if they fuck up their combo, or corner me, or just knock me down. No matter which direction I tech and block I always always get hit. If I barrier block, if I just regularly block I always get nailed right out of a tech and people just smash me for like 70% of my life sometimes and I don’t know how to get out of it.
Yeah I’m familiar with the damaging combos. And I didn’t mean my post to sound like complaining. Tao is perfectly capable of doing damage, and a lot of it.
But honestly that’s the only thing I could think of that they could change, anything else would really alter the fundamental playstyle of the character.
And Rabbit2k7, I have the exact same problem sometimes. I find the easiest way to avoid it is to try to not techroll forward or backward and just take the large attack invulnerbility frames of the neutral tech roll. Sure, you can be thrown out of it, but most players won’t bother trying to throw you from it (its extremely hard to time when I’ve tried it). I wouldn’t do it against Taegar though for that reason…
Anyway, just something I’ve noticed.
Well even if I neutral tech I still get hammered. No matter what I always get hit from a tech and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Maybe its that I sort of mash C to get the tech as soon as possible and its trying to get out a C attack right out of the tech and that’s why I get smashed?
If you got counter hit after tech then pretty much you mash a little too much (myself is still correcting this mistake)
Did you get throw or did you did you block high/low correctly after tech?
Tager overheads: 6c, sledge hammer follow up (236a, 236a), 6b(it looks like 5b if you don’t play Tager that much), last hit of 236236b. j2c (it comes out almost instantly while close to the ground).
