Hey guys i just got word last night from the owner of Livingstons that we can use their super sweet “Royal Room” for tournaments on sundays so to give everyone a heads up i am going to throw our first tournament on August 14. Sign-ups will start at 12:30 and run until 2:00 when the tournament will actually begin. I am definitely using SS4AE and MvC3, but we also have MK9 CvS2 MvC2 3S and Garou. I want to run a 3 game tourney, what game will get the most love from Tampa? There will be an $8 door fee plus money for each game i will hash that out later in the actual invite. This will be our first tournament down here in Sarasota, our first tournament in the history of the town. I am so hyped for the florida fgc, and i am glad to be a part of it.

I am glad to be a part of such an awesome community and it has been cool to see all the new faces coming around Livingston’s on wednesdays. i know that sometimes things can be really slow but it is still cool to see that we have had nights where there are pretty large groups and they are not even the same people as the week before.
Sarasota WILL BE AT ALMA this Sunday, we have to show our friends from Tampa some love. Also i am looking forward to Djdelly’s store to open up, casuals really make me level up my play and i want to play as many people as i can.
Nerd shop is coming along nicely… Next week most of the merch is arriving and we’re 100% for july 1st opening day. sunday casuals start 7/3 the store will have 3 set ups and room for 3-4 more, so feel free to bring a set up if you want.

Once you have checked to make sure that there aren’t any other tourneys within 150 miles of yours, and you get a good majority of the details; the specific times each tourney will start, the payout, the format, etc, make sure you post a thread in the http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?forums/tournaments-events.96/ section for all to see. Then, drop the link to that in all the local forums to garner more interest. It might help to ask those who run the other local tourneys for advice. I know the first will be tough to pull off, and has the potential to be the most frustrating to try to conduct.
With me getting a new position at work, this is the first Sunday event that I can commit to going to (as long as I don’t have to drive lol) without having to use my vacation time. Good luck and I can’t wait.
I don’t remember Tampa tourney ever asking for anything more that $5 for door fee unless we were offering free food and drinks.I’m just letting you know I hear 8 I see pretty much $10 and that’s a lot for our broke ass Tampa players unless this is a major or something. Renting out a venue and throwing a major I feel more comfortable paying over $5. I’m not in the mood to pay someones car payment because they feel like they can make an extra dollar owning some TVs and Gaming consoles. I don’t think I even seen you guys travel outside of Sarasota or Tampa. Gotta support the scene not just try to make a buck off of it. Just my strong opinion on shit i hate about random expensive tournaments for no reason.Hope its an awesome event

I really doubt there’s any sort of ill will in the door fee. $8 is pretty specific and makes me think that it was likely worked out with the venue. Whatever the reason, i’m sure (and hope) it’s not for personal gain. And the tokens at Rocky’s were awesome. I spent all mine in the first hour on ski-ball and air-hockey.
Word of advice, sikemopko; be sure to have lots of change ready as you’ll be seeing lots of $20s.

Dude you have to check. I’d love to go, and I’m sure there are plenty of others who would to split the costs and fill the ride! Once you know you’d be able to take off, but before you actually do, let me know, so I can see if I can do the same.
Nothing said here is untrue. For this to be a monthly, an $8 venue is a little pricey for a one day event. It’s commonly $5. Truth is, you may lose some prospective gamers because of this. Once the money starts getting too high, and I’m not saying at $8 it is, people start doubting themselves and the whole idea. Anyone will do anything for $5 because it’s just $5 and can potentially be a blast. Think about your food. Most people will gladly pay $5 for a meal at a fast food joint, but hesitation kicks in when you start talking about $8 meals. You start thinking about whether it’s worth it.
