Fuckin’ recovery frames
How do they work?
Fuckin’ recovery frames
How do they work?
Higher risk and higher reward then blocking, but I’m not Trying to say you don’t guess which way to block sometimes too, just not NEARlY as often, and there is no huge reward for guessing the right block direction. Guess parrying is an offensive risk, guess blocking is a “please don’t kill me” choice that you aren’t choosing to attempt, you have to at least try.
Example, I’m waking up from a knockdown vs Ken. If I wakeup parry, I am literally 50/50 guessing high or low parry, he could crouching short short super, or he could standing medium punch, fierce punch(target combo) into super. If I’m wrong I die im right I get combo on him. Now if I woke up holding downback, I don’t have to guess, it blocks both.
You are wrong. The parry system does differentiate. Also, a Guard Impact in Soul Calibur doesn’t (unless you are lol Hilde in 4) lead to the same sort of damage it does in 3S, as a general rule. The other thing about Guard Impact is that it behaves the same way for all moves, and the opponent can always Guard Impact while in a Guard Impacted state. I don’t know as much about 3S’s parry system (can you throw escape while in parry stun, for example?), and I’m not chiming in as to its value, but just wanted to correct you there.
//EDIT\
And yeah also the parry attempts have recovery frames.
There isn’t parry stun. The character that parries is just free to move while the parried stays in active/recovery frames.
@Drew: SC2/3 money match, first to fifteen, $20.

GI has different ones, plus it has a whiff animation. Parry in 3S would be less horrid if you could whiff, but that’d require a parry command or button.
@MikeJ: There is a parry recovery frame or two, but I believe both players are ‘frozen’ unless the parrier cancels into a move.
Ah. Well then, yeah, the GI system is much different.
@Miymei: Please don’t play SC3 for money, it hurts me sooooooo >_<
Like hit stop, yes, but the parried doesn’t go into any stun animation. The move completes it’s animation.
so then you don’t HAVE to parry its just a risky option that you can take right?
Yeah, I knew what you meant. I wasn’t sure if it increased the recovery of the move or anything. GI has the same stun applied to any move, but unless it is a Just Impact you can counter GI and throw escape during it. In 4 they added grounding GIs, but those are different because you can ground control out of basically any followup, and can throw tech any grounded throws they might try.

Edits, how do they work?
Sorry, that was at MikeG. Didn’t feel like quoting lol.
With parry, you have to take off of block though and if you’re off you get punished for it. also no go on money match
Of course you don’t have to parry, nobody ever said you have to. My whole point is Its guesswork quite often. I’m not sure what you’re getting at.
What is the point you’re trying to make here? You don’t get a block during the recovery frames of a guard impact, it’s the exact same downside.
But you can’t parry during the recovery frames of a parried move, can you? And you can’t throw escape, correct? Since you are considered to still be in recovery. GI has a separate state that doesn’t function in the same way. From what I understand, if you parry a move with long recovery, you get a free punish. With GI, you put them in a situation where they have make a guess or get punished.
