Tallahassee Thread: "I'd MIGHTY SMASH that!"

Hammer gives her like a 5.5k corner loop, yeah.

I could and have written many essays on the topic <_<, but I tried to keep it a little bit shorter and a lot more informal. I mean, just look at Spike at the beginning and Spike at the end of the show. Do you think he’s really made that much of a journey (beyond the obvious point, which isn’t really a matter of character growth)? I don’t. It’s fine if you disagree, but that’s my take.

GuileMike: I’m assuming you’re looking for some “IT DOESN’T FOLLOW THE MANGA” outrage. The Berserk anime is decent. It’s different from the manga and doesn’t have a great conclusion, since the manga keeps going long past the anime, but it’s not bad. The animation is kind of inconsistent and I am not a huge fan of the style, but it has its merits. The base story is still interesting, even if some of the characters are total assholes. I haven’t read all or even most of Berserk, but what I read of it was good, as well. I don’t read as much manga because it’s super expensive in America and scanlations are notoriously unreliable, in both quality of image and translation. Also, as I have undoubtedly mentioned, I like using legal avenues wherever possible.

Also, really? My stance on one much-loved manga and much-maligned anime series is your basis for my “anime credibility?”

Kryian: To claim my position is ignorant and stupid because you disagree with it is, well… I argue that they are pointless because I don’t think they should have any reason to exist. I don’t want to watch anything dubbed. It’s not a quality argument, just one of principle. I understand that a lot of people go for dubs, and that’s why they exist, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. If you think dubs are so meaningful, why is that? It’s not a matter of right or wrong, or of ignorance or knowledge. I don’t think dubs add anything to a series, movie, game, etc, therefore I call them pointless.

Adam: I don’t really think it’s a matter of which you see first. It’s not that I can’t watch anime in English because all the voice-acting is just so bad, because a lot of it is fine. I, on principle, prefer to view media in as close to its original form as possible. If I ever learn Japanese, sure I’ll watch raws. Until then subtitles are necessary for me to understand the content, while dubbing does not accomplish that goal better, in my opinion. There are good and bad dubs, just as there are good and bad original performances.

just a random sample, u passed

<3 <3 Glad to hear it.

You answered your own question. Just because something is not meant for YOU does not mean it serves no point. That is an ignorant and selfish (and stupid) stance to take. It would be like me saying pads serve no point because arcade sticks are the ‘real’ way to play fighting games. Ridiculous and retarded.

So things people like automatically serve a point? I like plenty of things that could easily be called pointless. I’m sure we all do. I don’t think they serve a purpose, I don’t claim people have no right to like them. Yes, I would prefer if dubs didn’t exist because I think subs are preferable, which, sure, is selfish of me. However, saying people like them is not the same thing as saying they serve a purpose, necessarily.

If your argument is that people like them so they aren’t pointless, that’s fine, I can respect that. I just find them to be an awful lot of extra work to try and turn a still pretty niche market mainstream, and I think a lot of people would be pretty fine without dubs if it meant more or cheaper releases. For the especially niche shows a lot of DVDs are sub only, anyway, which tend to be significantly cheaper, in my experience.

Hey guys. I am a UF student in gainesville and I’m from south florida (broward county). I am really interested about going to CEO which would be my first tournament to see how i’d do in MvC3. The thing is that I haven’t payed for anything yet and i was wondering if anyone from the south florida area is looking for an extra roomate or something because i’d greatly appreciate it so that the price of the hotel would be cheaper etc.
Well if anyone is interested, you can hit me up on facebook if you want. My name is phillip prophete

what part of broward r u from?

Everything has a point. Fruitless may have a better level of relevance.

I don’t think most things have a point, really. Perhaps fruitless is a more agreeable term? Doesn’t seem like the connotation is really that different to me.

//EDIT\
But whatever. Not meaning to turn this thread into a philosophical debate about the point of existence, or anything. I was honestly just curious why people were so defensive about dubbing.

Now kids, stop all this bickering, there’s BBCS2 to be played.

Ron/James quit hiding, I know you both have had the game since April

Not in my house :frowning:

Which is why you should be at Matt’s/Jarv’s/Ron’s.

Mu is quite fun now. These setups are going to take ignorance to a whole new level.

Logan just learn all the top tiers (Makoto, Hazama, Jin, Noel) I’m sure there’s a character in there for you somewhere, heh.

Think I’ll sit down with this game tomorrow and hash out who I want to play.

I am definitely a tier whore. That’s why I’m gonna try hazama out first because he seems the coolest to me of the current “tops”

I have Wayyyy more fun winning than losing, so that’s why I have to tier whore. It’s like if I was racing somebody, except there are like 10 starting lines, and they aren’t all the same distance from the finish. Heck yes I’m bout to start on that closest line there is. You start where you want, if you’re fast enough you still might beat me! If you’re mad slow and I know it, I might start on one of the other lines for fun still , though.

**ggs

**tonight to Adonis and Kyle mad fun games as always. Super long session too.

So who all is definitely going to CEO? I’m going for sure, and sharing a room with my pal from Tampa. I’m planning on driving as well. I know I’ve only really met Esjihn, so I don’t expect to be buddy-buddy with everyone off the bat, but I have seen that some serious players here in Tally don’t drive… so if anybody needs a ride to CEO, I potentially have a couple of extra seats in my car (and possibly extra space at the hotel Friday/Saturday night, if it works out that someone really needs that as well). Consider this my “goodwill gesture” I guess.

Also side note: I have finally re-aquired a 360 after all my crap got stolen, hit me up: “Steve Bauer” - I’m going to pick up SSF4 and MvC3 tomorrow hopefully, so that I can get reaquainted before CEO. I still have tons to learn, so the more Practice and casuals I can get in, the better. If anybody needs a punching bag for combo practice, I’m your guy. Haha.

I’m sure someone is going to need to bum a ride. Plus, the more ridesharing the better, gas prices are just  now. Come out to SLC on Thursdays, Andy’s on Tuesday’s, or Adam’s place whenever he hosts, though!

Marvel has killed my ability to dash :frowning:

Games tonight at my place. Feel free to come out and meet some of us.

I can’t really figure out Iron Man… he seems fun, but also clunky… it’s odd.
