T9 afterthoughts

 Why would a PS2 be in the basement when only T5 and SSBB were played down there?

beast …

was talking to neighbour dragoon about going since we were about 10 mins away. I didn’t think a lot of (tosf) peeps would come down and jon didn’t want to spend $10

people also played Tekken Tag _

I’d like to thank everyone who came out and made my experience at T9 so enjoyable.

People who steal petty shit like $35 from pots in a community scene need to be fucking castrated.

Thanks to Stephen for running this whole thing. I had a really good time, other than getting DQ’d from marvel low tier :shake:. I should’ve came and told you after, but I was just like so pissed off I didn’t care anymore. Oh well I got third! haha good enough.

Yeah, like unless u want to call the next tourney TXI it makes sense to just leave it at T10

I’m surprised that so many shit go jacked at the tournament. I left my 360 up in the open in the basement on Saturday for VF5 casuals while I was playing Melty and Sunday for the tourmanet and it never even got touched, yet some dumbasses stole sticks and PS2s.

Still, good shit Stephen about running the tournament. Tho I do agree that fees should have all been collected up front and games should have been advertised a lot more. Lots of people didn’t even seem to know that there was a VF5 tournament on Sunday, and I got a few comments about people wanting to join after we had already started, which is a shame. The heat was a only a minor issue tbh, the venue was nicely located, there was enough of everything around us and the crew running the venue were cool enough to save us the trouble of walking to the No Frills for refreshment.

My bad for not showing for 3S, hospital staff wouldn’t let me out for the weekend and believe me I PLEADED WITH MY LIFE.

damn… I missed this?

T10 Needs Surveillance

sorry to sound harsh, but lost equipment really the owner’s fault. Seriously, don’t leave your shit laying around, and make sure people who you lend your stuff to is trustworthy and won’t lend it out to someone else. Guys who borrow stuff, don’t be ā€œpoliteā€ when someone has a match after you and asks if he could use the stick. Just say no it’s not mine and return the stick.

I’m pleasantly surprised that most tournaments finished on time. Great job to the directors.

The location was ok, I know stephen was short on options since it was pretty late notice…but next time I would seriously look for place that has parking. Most out of towners drive in, and would most likely be driving to the venue. AC happens, club sauna wasn’t too bad, at least you can escape by going outside.

I didn’t lend my stick to anyone, it was right in front of the xvsf monitor the whole time, the theft was deliberate. don’t see the need to always keep my eye’s on the joy sticks at the tournament when there right in front of the entire xvsf community. The person who stole it is just a piece of shit plan and simple.

We shouldn’t have to have this mind state at tournaments where we are worriedabout shit getting stolen.

i think it’s just the reality of things. yes the person who stole is scum plain and simple, but you don’t leave the doors unlock when you leave the house.

If it’s that important to you, ask someone you can trust, and know that they’ll be there to keep an eye on it. just cause it’s in front of the entire xvsf community doesn’t mean it’s safe.

It’s sad that the owners have to do this, but that’s just life. You gotta watch out for yourself.

I agree, nothing should be stolen at these tournaments if only the community is within it. The blame is always on the one who stole/broke the trust barrier on the root level. That’s beside the fact that most people desire to be relaxed and loose in these environments 95% of the time since this is about fun not business (which would change the responsibilities).

Better percautions just need to be made (easier said then done obviously). Just need to learn from this instead of reliving it.

I’m not even reveling in it. I’m over the fact that it was stolen, whats done is done right. But all I’m saying is i trust the xvsf players, every single one of them, i’ve known some of them for over 4 or 5 years. I dont see any reason not to trust every xvsf player that was there… Oh well its gone hahaha fuck it

you trust xvsf guys, but what about all the other guys? I know I basically don’t know a single smash or tekken player there, and there’s a large number of them. While each community is tightly knit, it’s hard to say that for cross communities…mainly the great divide between 2d and 3d players.

I wonder if there’s some fundamental thing we can do to help prevent this other than having each player look after their own stuff. I know we’ve always mentioned a check out system, maybe that’s what we should really try to implement? So if you don’t want your stuff stolen, register it with the staff, so they can manage who takes the sticks and more importantly it’s LOGGED who took it.

If you guys are up for that, i can whip up and app to manage that stuff.

not trying to stir up shit here, but i chilled with 2d & 3d players and there was no difference in mood. every community at t9 just wanted to chill and have fun. If someone was gonna steal shit, they were gonna do it no matter what community they were from. people just gotta take care of their own shit no matter how much fun the event is suppose to be. that’s life

I think it’s extremely difficult to take percautions when there’s so many different games and communities involved.

A check out system would work well, but would require more effort and work from the organizing staff and I’d bet thinking about will trigger - ā€˜fuck it, let people take care of their own shit’.
I like trust, but the environment has to accomodate it, and I think that’s real hard with so many different groups of people. This has nothing to do with the groups of people being different or whatever, but the environmental detachment of seperate groups creates the problem in creating a open and trusting environment.

EDIT: Shiro, I wasn’t saying you were reliving it - we all are when we go over who, when, where, etc.

if the community wants to chill and still have the stuff safe, I think the check out system would work. I mean someone had be manning the bar for both days at T9 right? We could always have one or two more TO guys to implement the check out system. If the community wants it, I think the staff would be more than willing to accommodate.

If it’s one of those sticks that get constant use (mtl/ottwawa’s monster sticks come into mind), they could probably by pass the check out system. Also personal sticks that the owner holds on to constantly.

All the check out system would really provide is a log of who was the last person with the stick, this way that person would be responsible for it.
