T8: Games/Rules Discussion

I’ll run ST.

Also, I have an argument for shiro for XvSF.

The fact of the matter is that XvSF is a game that is currently mostly played online, with people using a variety of control setups from keyboards, to pads, to sticks. The problem is that with it being online, people play the majority of the time on their own terms. Poeta told me he was going to come to T8 with keyboard in hand and was hoping to beat down everybody, more or less. I know for a fact that playing on keyboard, he uses 3p and 3k as a main part of his game, and if that’s what it takes for him to execute on a keyboard the way he does, then I’m fine with it.

“Sorry if any one had their hopes up for using 3p 3k, but i just cant see it being on the same plane feild if peeps are using 3p 3k in a game that is rediculasly easier with them.”

Ignoring the fact that you said ‘plane’ instead of ‘playing’, you claim the game is rediculously easier with these buttons being set. The problem is not about how much easier the game is, but how much harder the game is without the setup to players who use them daily. The competition that XvSF will drag in will be people who play it online and most likely use these buttons. Just because you don’t use the macros (who knows… I’m just assuming no one is stupid enough to set a rule that would cut down their own execution), is no reason to make this ruling.

People train online in this game using these controls. To me it seems almost stupid to force them to play without them. If you want it to be a true measure of skill you’re going to give people the setup that they’re used to on the controller they’re used to, this is the whole point of a console tournament… to even out the playing field by cutting out all the excuses about controls. And due to the fact that this game is mainly played online without any restrictions on controls, the tournament for the game should consider this as well.

BTW, I said I’ll run ST.

Two Dreamcasts
Two Agetec sticks
One HRAP stick + PS2->DC convertor

I can buy a TV or two if we’re short, maybe a projector for the main event if no one else has one.

I’ll run Marvel if no one else wants to.

I wonder who we’re gonna get to run ST.

I don’t mean to sound like a bitch, but how will we know our equipment is safe?

Well, I figured the main tournaments already had directors, which is why I didn’t come out and say I wanted to run marvel. Hmmm…

Gerjay. i understand ur point of having macros for xmvsf, but it would make it really unfair for the people who use stick to have to face people who use macros. Everything is made easier once u put in macros (trust me i know i wouldnt mind using macros cuz ill rape everyone jks). Also if u seen the tourny that was held at ottawa it had about 25ish people that joined thats a lot for a game thats was considerd dead outside of online play. Im pritty sure that we wont lose too many people for not having macros. Im positive that we would lose a lot lot more people if we were to have macros (Ottawa and there 10 or more people planning on comming wouldnt come cuz there all acrade players).

but if macros are in then i would like to take the money right now

The Sion infinite is far different from the glitched ones, anyway. It’s on the lines of a Magneto reset.

If this is the case, it will leave six weeks for the players to learn this game. I’d like to hear from the GG community whether they feel six weeks is sufficient time to make AC the main GG game or still a side game.

I’ll give the nod for all of us that we will definitely be ready for T8. I’m going to organize a console tournament for AC a week before T8 to prepare better. A few guys already have some practise on it in HK.

Fobs.

I’d ask the same question If I was in your position too.
First of all, unlike orbit, our venue will be a closed venue…meaning only players and other participants will be admitted. (realistically, random people wouldn’t be around in the 1st place)

Next, most if not all equipment is provided by the players.
I think we all have the responsibility to watch each others equipment. I am currently planning out a way for each director to know what equipment they have for their station and who it belongs to. I also want to add a check-out system for people who want to borrow equipment as well. We all need to bear some sort of responsibility in keeping our tournament theft free. I for one will not tolerate any sort of theft.

the last day of T7, Empire left all their equipment (even running systems and alot of controllers) lying on the registration table unsupervised so they can watch the 5v5s. There were alot of jitz players and random ppl so I personally made frequent checkups on the table. Nobody even went near it. Of course your equipment won’t be carelessly tossed aside but to think nothing was stolen at orbit, a place where they snatch your cell phone the moment you put it down (no joke here its happened alot) can say good things about a closed venue.
I hope this brings more ease to people.

BKB and other people who want to provide equipment but only say "console, games"
Can you be more specific? I’m trying to make a list donations and I need to know whats what. Thanks

EDIT: As for ggxx
I say we hold a slash and a AC tourny. I know some Americans who are coming down just to play everyone in slash and I really don’t want them to come down only to be discouraged.

If VF5 is out for 360 by T8, I’ll bring that and run it I guess.

I definitely think Slash should be the main GGXX game, I don’t think a lot of players will have had much practice with AC by then. If there is an AC side tourney then I’ll join it too, I think most GGXX players will play both anyway.

I think it’s mostly likely Kevin is gonna show up. Are you sure the seeds amongst the players?

Is there one of the following close to this venue:

Burger King
KFC
Taco Bell

Ottawa would not compete in a playing field where 3p 3k macros were available. that’s not XvSF, that’s a different game. Playing skill has a lot to do with execution, and if you remove a good chunk of that part of the game, the game becomes even more degenerate.

also, you’re grossly misinformed about the XvSF community. There are some online players who use keyboard and macros (LMX included at one point in time), but a lot of cats actually use sticks and play without the handicap of macros.

cause seriously, when execution is not a problem there is literally no hope, but if you’ve watched any arcade tournament, execution is big part of the game. no matter what the tiering is, people DO fuck up combos. Joker fucks up combos, LMX fucks up combos, all our players fuck up combos, merely do the fact that nobody is perfect. If you reduce the skill required for execution, the game just would not be comparable. Nobody would take it seriously. Just like nobody takes online fights seriously now, making a tournament with macros would garner equal respect.

^^ i’m going to have to agree with call me a newb.

So what happens if i play with a programmable pad? So what if i can rc blanka ball, rc electricity, rc fire ball rc anything 100% because i practice w/ this macro.

where do we draw the line?

execution is part of the game. One button moves should NOT be allowed…

my 2cents.

Cool, just wanted to know something was being done. Checkout system seems great

I just assumed that since the infinites are gone in arcade verB that they are also gone in console verB, since they’re nearly identical to each other. Though I asked anyway since I can’t be sure of that since I haven’t a chance at all to mess around with the console version of the game.

So that’s why I asked if you guys are running it on verA, which would be pretty wack since verB console is the closest version of the game to arcade verB, and is what version everyone else plays in NA anyway.

No, you can choose either A or B on the PS2 version. Go to game options, and look for the option where you can switch between Original (verB - which is the default too) and Arcade (verA - believe it’s called that) mode.

If you noticed, I also said we’d be using Original Settings.

My suggestion for macros is no macros allowed as the base rule, with exception for cases where both players agree that it’s ok to use it.

I’ll bring HRAP x 2 and maybe my ps2. The supply for ps2 is alot greater than supply for tvs though. And I’m sure equipment will get lost/stolen easily. Checkout system sounds good but I’d prefer that my HRAPs only be used for games that I play so I can monitor them myself more easily.
