Since the Ver.2012 Alpha changes has been announced and still currently being worked on, I just thought I’d create this thread in hopes that T.Hawk could possibly be improved further. Please post your requests to this thread at Capcom-Unity (This thread is just for discussion) -

I think Hawk sounds pretty solid in the next update honestly, and IMO all he needs are 2 changes to make him PERFECT -

  1. FADCable Tomahawk Buster

T.Hawk really needs this. He is the ONLY character in the game with no FADCable Special Moves and therefore has ZERO practical uses for the FADC system. He lacks the ability to pressure and perform the kind of combos that other characters can use and at the same time his moves are too baitable.

  1. Faster walkspeed

For a character who relies heavily on footsies, T.Hawk is way too slow. I understand that large Grappler-type characters should naturally be slower, but because of his horrendously slow walkspeed he has highly unfavorable matchups against most Projectile characters. He really needs to be sped up a bit so that he can close distance on these characters better. People can run away from him and turtle on him so easily.

Idk if this is the last update they’ll do, but it really seems like it since this is the most serious the SSF4 development team has ever taken Balancing. It’s best that we get on this as much as we can in order to ensure that Hawk comes out as viable as possible. What do you guys think?

Yeah, I like those buffs, it might even put T.Hawk mid tier. But I think Capcom is intentionally not allowing T.Hawk have a tomahawk buster FADC because when it’s paired with U2, it could be deadly.

One more buff to consider, I think the falling shoulder, jumping d.MP, needs a bigger hitbox so its more commonly used.

I think I’ve heard somewhere in the Fei Long forums that the only changes they are gonna make after the beta changes are frame data:(. (Lets hope I’m wrong here)
Less frame disadvantage for blocked normals him is the best you can hope for it seems.

Capcom ain’t gonna do anything about hawk because he’s already monster tier in capcoms mind.

Why is cody getting faster walk speed?

I just play him for fun.

I want a fast dp like dp and not hit me in the face dp. If you look at his move then it is.
Just can’t aa with his dp.
More moves that can fadc that never gonna happen.
Spire on kick with shortcut also never gonna happen.
More hit confirm combo’s in my wildest dreams.
Faster walk speed would be very wellcome but he’s not getting it because capcom thinks he has dive to get in. Yeah get in to be punished or even when in air already being punished.

He’s bottom tier even below Dan in 2012.

Instead of remove blanka it is better if they just remove hawk.
Hawk is and will always be training dummy.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Capcom hates grapplers or always over estimates there strength. I’m a Gief mainer and he’s the most nerfed character from vanilla to now imo. The ex.gh nerf was the most retarded change ever. I’m actually thinking about switching to Hawk full time in 2012, at least he’s not getting worse in the next version.

They don’t play that all that alike and you will be greatly disappointed by Hawk. I do not recommend this.

Actually, I’ve been playing more Hawk recently and he’s more fun for me right now. I’m a long time Gief mainer and he’s just starting to feel a little bland but I’ll still play him too. Yes, sometimes Hawk feels like a slow-ass punching bag but so does Gief so I’m used to the terrible matchups.

Oh I agree that Hawk is more fun; that’s why I play him. haha. Plus, as a former Gief main the Sagat/Akuma/Sim match must feel comparatively easy. That’s a plus.

capcom can’t make hawk any better because he just wins all the tourneys.
he’s broken as hell in capcoms mind.

at least with gief i have less hard time with most of the cast.
i’m winning more with gief then hawk.
but hawk really is more fun to play with.
he has a good set of special moves if they weren’t ass special moves.
hawk needs less recovery time on his moves.
everytime you whiff or got blocked then hawks in for a punishment.

Honestly, I’m fine with Hawk right now for the most part but the one question I’d ask Capcom is why the hell would you give Hawk a dp but have it suck so bad in this game? Non ex’s should be at worst 5 frames of startup so we don’t just get kicked in the face when we try to anti air. If they just improved this then I’d be happy.

or make fierce version of Tomahawk do 200 damage as a AA, its so hard to AA with that crap dp, make high reward at least, im tired to try AA, get counter hit and eat a shit load combo

I know it’s not the best “DP” in the game but it does 160!!! On counter hit it does 200! Go into training mode and practice reacting to jump-ins. Alternatively, play a game with your friend where you tell him to jump in X times in the round during a light session of footsies practice. Doing either will significantly boost your ability to use Hawk’s “DP”. Because its hitbox shrinks low during startup and it has some invuln frames at the first few active frames, there’s not a lot of things that will flat out beat it. 160 Damage Anti air is already godly reward… buffing damage isn’t going to fix what makes t.hawk a flawed character.

I just want all versions of tomahawk to have throw invincibility. You don’t want to give us invincibility on our wakeup without having to burn meter? Whatever. Don’t want to give Condor Spire either faster startup or less recovery? Fine. The least you can do is make it so that Guy and Vega can’t spam their airgrabs on our wakeup and consistently hit us because our hitbox is too big to crouch them and we don’t have a way to tell them to back off. That’s all I’m sick of honestly.I think it’s the reason people see Hawk as unusable in higher levels, he can be cheesed out and counterpicked so easily that some matches become almost unplayable.

(also yes, I’m aware that medium punch tomahawk is getting throw invincibility in 2012, I still think it should be on all tomahawks, it’s bullshit that he can get airgrabbed out of EX Tomahawk)

Tomahawk being lackluster isn’t what makes hawk such a weak character. It’s his horrid horizontal mobility that makes him struggle with so many match ups. I would look at improving spire. Maybe buff it’s range and give it some projectile immunity on startup.
