For serious? So like, if I believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster and that’s the only god I pray to, I get to go to heaven? I don’t really get how that works. Is he considered my own interpretation of the one true god? What about a situation where one acknowledges that other gods exist, but will only worship one god whom they have a pact with and is considered above all other gods?

I’m not going to go into into it, too complicated, not bothered, busy revising for an exam on Monday. I’ll just say the most important thing is the values you hold and put into practice, not your faith. Muslims also believe that Hell, 99% of the time (made up statistic, you get my point), will simply be used to purify you before you enter into heaven, i.e., if you have a shred of humanity and goodness, you stand a chance of eventually entering into heaven as long as you’ve paid for earthly sins/mistakes through fire. You’d have to be a monumental douche like Saddam Hussein to stand no chance of getting in. There’s still debate over specifics but that’s the long and short of it.

For the hell thing in Christianity - there are different views on how exactly salvation works in some instances, as in how it’s applied. Like for instance, some gather that people are judged by their response to God from the witness in nature and available revelation. Kind of like the Jews prior to Christ, which then would have faith in Christ. Or maybe, say some guy in a jungle believing that there is a transcendent God, etc. It’s not really clear what all would be believed or would have to be in some cases on this view. But everyone that is or will be saved, it will be through Christ’s atonement - God’s work.

But if it’s really not connected to the religion, then OTHER religions should be doing it in the same situation too. Lets take south park. There was a huge thing with death threats involved when they were going to show Muhammad, yet they’ve had Jesus insulted several times(heck he was even in imagination land in one of the episodes), basically said the entire catholic church are boy hungry pedophiles who are out of touch with society, and insulted a million other religions and cultures unrepentantly. None of those episodes had militant groups of people threatening to kill/bomb/do violence on anyone when those episodes came out. I don’t by any stretch think all Muslims are evil or that all of them would attack people like that. But I find the fact that we have people in this thread defending stuff like that terrifying, I assume you guys are normal everyday people who follow the Muslim religion, and the fact that you think it’s okay to physically attack people for ideas is not a good indicator for the rest of your religion. Saying ‘We don’t encourage it but we support the guy who did it’ DOES make it look like your whole religion is full of violent barbarians. It doesn’t matter how much you love/respect Muhammad, attacking someone for insulting him or drawing a picture of him is NOT okay, and you should not be okay with someone else doing it in the name of your religion, it makes you ALL look bad.
