Survival Kombat Tournament 2009! 11/15/2009 - Beaverton,Oregon

Yeah, I was just checking it myself.

Well I went to my first tournament today. Gotta say it was allot of fun. I probably would have done well to practice some sf4 beforehand. I had forgotten until today that it was this weekend.

My sf4 matches went horribly and I lost both times pretty badly. It was a mix of me playing Tekken 6 so much lately and not being used to the stick I used. Oh and the people I played were better than me. :wonder:

Lucky for me though they had a smaller Tekken 6 tournament going and I had allot more fun with that. Since it was running on a PS3 with TE sticks it felt much better. I took my first game which felt great. 2nd round I got beat pretty bad by a guy who was much better than me. In losers I lost but the matchs were pretty close and even took one set.

Hope for more tournaments in the Portland area soon.

Great night everyone!

Special thanks for Seattle for coming out, Slash and Pasqual + Jitte for running everything as smoothly as possible. As well, thanks for your patience with Chad. This was his first tournament, and he liked enough to want to go to every following tournament that wold occur. Everyone played hard and played to win, which was nice. The commentary to end the night was pretty awesome, too. Thanks for bringing set ups also. We had a huge turnout and it was very necessary… I was pretty satisfied with my team members performance, I’d say. He placed higher then I had previously anticipated.
Fun MM’s with that there 50 Cent match + Can of sausage. G G N O R E lol.
SamB shall have his revenge.

BTW, Y’all just got owned by a smash kid ;D

SaltyREPPPPPPPPPPPPP

God damn, fried food stench on my clothes.

GGs all

resutls? and What happened to the live stream?

Fo srs, lol. But yeah, shit was tight. Did pretty badly in SF4, thanks to being out of practice, and pretty badly in Tekken6 due to just learning the game, but I still had fuckin’ fun, and Off Road Derby was srs bsns, and fun as hell. Top eight matches were a blast to watch, and I can’t wait to hear all the commentary we had going. It was really cool to see Seattle come down to Portland for a change, and I think we gave them something to come down to. Good times.

Tired as fuck though. G’night.

Congrats to BBH, Ray and Virsaga in Street Fighter.
Congrats to Ray in Tekken, and whoever got 2nd and 3rd (I wasn’t paying enough attention, as I wasn’t actually in that tourney, unfortunately).

We had trouble with the wifi at the tourney’s location, as expectations weren’t met. Top eight or more matches were recorded and commentated on, and will be uploaded to youtube whenever Slash5150 gets around to it. Some Tekken was recorded as well, I believe. Sorry for the let down. =\

So, like Panda said, there were a few problems.

First, my dumbassery. Plugging your breakout cable into your soundcard to be able to record DOES NOT WORK.

After realizing my dumbassery it went beautifully.

I’ll be working on the videos this week.

Now to tell about the “stream” or lack there of.

So originally Panda had told me that Hot Shots had wi-fi and he was right. When I talked to them (Hot Shots) about it, this is what they said “Yeah, we have Wi-Fi but the one we were going to let you guys use burned out and we haven’t put it in” Which to me means, our wi-fi burned out and we really don’t feel like putting it in.

They told me that the fencing place next door had wifi and that we could use their signal, went to the fencing place and was told “Yeah, we have Wi-Fi” I asked, is it Encrypted?(of the only good connection I picked up, it had a WEP key). They’re answer “I really don’t know” So it was pretty much FUCKED.

So yeah, I’m definitely sorry about that you guys, it was things that were out of my control.

The top 8 matches did get recorded, I think all but one has commentary, but the audio is choppy so I apologize about that, theres small breaks every few seconds, but I didn’t really have a lot of time to test things out. So Frank, I talked to Mike and Cole about this, but when you get around to TW finals and want me up there, let me know and I’ll see if you and I can work some gooooooood streaming shit out.

There are also interviews with BBH, Ray and Virsaga that have been recorded as well as the Tekken 6 Finals.

If your handle is incorrect here or you’d prefer to be referred elsewise, please hit me up. If anybody wants me to post the full bracket let me know; I need to rename a lot of people from real names to handles and vice versa so I’m not going to bother if nobody is interested.

Slash’s youtube channel. Go subscribe. Gogogo. Videos incoming as Slash gets to them.

A special thanks to Slash for his hard work on the computer side of things, Ray for getting this summabitch set up, and Jetay (lol Jitte) for running the T6 side tourney. A lot of effort from everyone involved resulted in one of the more fun tourneys I’ve been to.

Ray or Jetay, I believe one of y’all has the T6 side tourney bracket/results? Will leave that to you two, grats to Ray, Jetay, Cole, and Xeris whom I believe to be the top 4.

Shoutouts to everyone for attending and making this so much damn fun. Much respect to Hot Shots for their arcade being pretty well stacked. A few quick shoutouts:

Xeris: Gross. You’ve improved a metric ton in SF4 making 7th with your (now stick-using) Zangief and you took 4th in T6 with Zafina. Too good my man, can’t wait to play you again.
Chad: Thanks for coming out and I’m glad you dug it so much, welcome to the scene and hope to see you keep attending events.
Slash, Ray, Alex, Kurt, Simon: GGs from the tourney matches, I’m never picking Ryu again. Rose all day.
Virsaga: Impressive! It was great to watch you shake some people up, don’t stop anytime soon. Huge congrats on 3rd, Marcos.
Mike, Riki, Cole: Thanks for coming down guys, I hope you had a great time. Will definitely see you all again be it at a TW or another SK or something in between.
Everyone else: Good times meeting the new faces and catching up with some old ones I hadn’t seen in over a month now.

A good day over all. Now if you guys will excuse me I think I need to go to sleep.

A note of semi-relevance. Something to keep in mind for future tournies regarding what systems we run them on and tell people we’re running them on.

Thanks for the redirection, P. New to the site, so I wasn’t sure such a forum actually existed

Thanks again for the Dictator talk - but like you saw, I’ve still got no idea how to stop eating it in the corner when they have me pinned.
=]

Pasqual, I don’t want to sound like a dick, but read rays first post on the edit. Its pretty much says to bring 360 gear for 360s tournament.

But clarification is always good.

Also D, I would like to know where you got the idea that it was a GameTrader tournament.

No worries. You may want to ask a mod to delete that thread because you’re going to get kinda flamed in there. It’s starting already. Just let it roll and move on.

His edit from two days ago? I don’t know when the original edit regarding pushing the format towards 360-exclusive went up but Donovan’s post talks about talking to TO’s weeks ago and the girls at the registration table earlier today. I know we have our shit straight so it’s now a matter of making sure that anyone we’re working with is giving out correct information. Albeit it wasn’t a Game Trader tournament, but anyone we’re involved with needs to be double checked on these types of issues.

That’s the gist of what information I got from Danny and Ryan. :wonder:
I just assumed, judging from what I was told.

It’s great that there was an appropriate edit here on SRK with the information, but there were a few other boys there besides myself who - I’m guessing - were not exactly up to speed on the forums here. Before I even paid my dues to Danny, I asked again whether or not there was going to be SFIV on PS3. I was told yes.

That’s all I can say =]

GGs to everyone. I had a blast. It was great meeting the Portland crew… Seattle will definately be in the house at the next survival kombat.

Nice showing Mike/Cole/Riki, wish I could have gone.

Chads Name is Shikari

LOL

ShadorWasabi… that’s someone elseeeeeeeeee

TY for shout out. Means a lot dude. We shall try for this weekend, possibly?

I’d like to thank everyone that showed up for this tournament (especially Cole, Riki and Mike from Seattle).

Congrats to BBH for winning Sf4! I need a new gameplan vs Bison…

Things that need to be clarified:

1: This tournament has always been planned to run on Xbox 360. We did try to have another setup for PS3 users, but all the characters on the PS3 station weren’t unlocked. I wasn’t told we were doing a PS3 and 360 tournament. By having a dual console SF4 tourney, this adds more headache to players who only brought a pad or stick for their PS3, who eventually will face a 360 player that brought their pad or stick. This is something I didn’t want to deal with, so I chose 360 as the preferred version for this tournament.

The original post has always stated this tournament would be on 360. If you were told otherwise, I apologize. We can’t do a dual console SF4 tournament. Jetay and I provided the Xbox 360s for tournament use (along with 2 pads and sticks. Thanks Jetay!).

damn , seems like you guys had a lot of fun :frowning:

congrats for the winners !

i wish i could’ve made it but i had a couple of reasons that didnt allow me :

  1. i only knew about this like 2 hours before the tourney , and it takes about 3 hours to drive from here to PDX >_<

  2. i’m still kinda sick

  3. today was my roommate’s birthday

I’ll definitely try to be there next time though

I’d like to thank Pasqual for volunteering & running the SF4 bracket. Good job! I still owe you a drink!

Thanks to Jeromie for setting up the PS3 station which made the impromptu Tekken 6 tournament possible.

Miss Darkness - Wish you could’ve made it. 1st post in the NW forums?

i think so lol
