Personally, I dont really care about what people are doing privately in they bedrooms. But if states laws explicitly state that marriage is between a man and woman then the option should be whether or not to afford civil unions between gays the same economic/legal advantages as traditional marriages. Instead of doing this the supreme court chose the route of forcing the state to change the legal definition of marriage. The whole fight is over the legal definition over a word (established by democratically elected reps) and had escalated to the point that the supreme court is usurping the democratic process by not enforcing legislation as consistent with the constitution (as is the courts purpose), not interpreting legislation, but rather *overturning *legislation the is not in contradiction to the constitution. Regardless of whether the practical outcome of this is agreeable to you or not, do you not find this fact disturbing from a legal standpoint?
If we had to wait for states to do the right thing, segregation would still be legal in the South.

You might not care what goes on privately in people’s bedrooms, but that law did. Why was the law so specific about the terms of what a “marriage” is in the first place? If they would’ve stated that a marriage is between two consenting (non-related) adults, there would have not been an issue to begin with. There were obvious signs of religious influences over that part of the law for that to even be in there. The justices had to make a decision because the states were going through so much bullshit to either deny or allow it. One state observed your legal union and another doesn’t? That is obvious bullshit.
This right here. We needed laws for anyone that wasn’t seen as inferior by those narcissistic, racist and closed-minded fuckwads for others to be treated and have access to rights as a human and not treated as though they are abominations or property.
Now that this is over (until the states try to pull some shenanigans), I hope we, as a nation, can move on to other pressing issues, like the atrocious cost of higher education and student loans debt being a bigger than credit card debt, cost of living wages and other issues.
