my supergun is fixed! I replaced the video encoder. on a HDTV it’s a little bit blurrier than the old one. … I think… I’m not sure… It looks as if it was upscaled with bicubic filtering. but the board was advertised as completely hardware… so I dunno…
Anyway, I just need to take out the old encoder and screw this one in, and I’m all set. I’m gonna record a set running through vs CPU until my first loss (maybe it’s just my imagination that it’s a bit blurrier, If i capture it, I have something to compare (cuz i recorded last time) and see if it’s actually just my imagination…
So i just did a video capture with the new encoder… and the quality difference is very obvious when compared side to side, On their own only noticed the difference slightly.
I’ll upload the videos later on when I get home… and when I get home I’ll probably ask around tech talk or something to see if i can find some way to improve the picture quality…
Alright supergun all repaired… but… If you think the arcade board looked like it was on life support before… well, wait till you see it now… =/
Anyway, after closer examination of the videos, I think the “blurryness” may have something to do with how the video encoder tries to make it fit on a standard TV rather than an arcade monitor… (I think the pixels are taller, and the resolution is slightly different?)
edit: thanks to some research I think the video quality degredation is acutally caused by interference from extra information in RGB video sync thats not used in composite outputs.
The solution: buy a sync cleaner (found this help from a slew of papasi’s threads that showed up through google) Which takes out the extra information which isn’t needed by a composite feed.
unfortunately the place where papasi suggersted to purchase one doesn’t seem to carry it anymore…
I won’t be able to make any more Wednesdays btw because of my work schedule. Saturdays would work best for me. So I’ll be mia for the next 2 months or so.
Unless I get an apprenticeship. Oh please god let me get an apprenticeship so I can stop living like an undead corpse playing with chicks all day. I’m starting to hate those little yellow fluffy fuckers. Chirping and wiggling all the time.
Any of the ST heads here planning on going to toryuken? Since Brettcave 2 never happened, maybe we can have old skool casuals there. I can bring my stuff if someone has a CRT and there is room at the venue for a casual station. Let me know before friday. (JED, Brett, Unessential, Turbo)
I’d be down for Saturday night. Sunday is a nono for me.
Can’t bring my CRT tho cuz it doesn’t fit in my Jetta and I don’t wanna rip my nice back seats. The stratus is no longer highway worthy and I ain’t side roading it to downtown.
If one of you guys has a crt that isn’t too big I could pick you up. Just let me know what the measurements are.
Saturday is good for me… (I can’t participate in the skullgirls tournament cuz I can’t get there on sunday) spectators only have to pay the spectator fee and no venue fee… right? (I don’t think I’m going to go if I have to pay the venue fee on top of the spectator fee… )
but yeah. we need a CRT.
just wondering… is there anywhere/anyone in t.o that can fix a broken perfect 360 joystick? i’m useless without mine… and sending this stick will cost a mini- fortune.
a stick? what’s wrong with it? you just need the physical stick replaced you can just buy it yourself for about $30 and attach it. its just a wireharness connection.
** C’omn russell, that’s B.S. You’ve seen from gathering’s at A&C that event the supergun is hardly a distraction. Even during casuals, much less during a tourney.**
Part of me is irritated at that response, however…
Another part of me is saying:“Hmm, I wonder if Russel is afraid of ST luring away people from shitty 3D games.”
Or it could just be that he’s being strict about running the main games and getting things smoothly done. Which I can respect. Running Tournaments is tough and getting players attention is hard.
In any Case.
I propose for next meetup that instead of just casuals and ranking matches, we hold a small tourney or round robin. Each of us throws in $5 towards the pot with the exception of me throwing in $25 to make things interesting.
Winner take all of course. I’ll let you guys worry about the seeding.
Actually, the first time I brought the supergun on wednesday, neorussell was like. giving me shit and stuff
"Have you spoken to anybody before bringing this in?!?!" in an accusing tone. (I was thinking who the fuck are you?) A few seconds later someone told me he was NeoRussell. That name meant nothing to me at the time.
He only hassled me even though there were like SSM and SC players bringing their own setups too…
I just shoo’d him off “I spoke to Gar (one of the brothers that own A&C) about this the last few times I brought my supergun down during off nights” and he just walked off… I honestly, think there is a little fear in him that people might ditch 3D games…’ He’s been giving this evil cuteye once every meeting as well.
About the tournament. I’d be willing to throw in $25 to match you as well, even though I’m unlikely to win it, just to get people interested. But I think one step at a time. Lets discuss/set up the Leaderboard/Ranking/densen/whateveryouwanttocallit first. And hold off a tourney till at least the first meeting where we’ll have “challenges” for the board. By that time, we might have more people interested in participating too…
My whole thought process through this was to take it slow. Ease it in. You can’t build (rebuild) a scene overnight. I’d certainly be happy if we can do it fast but I’m just afraid that if we go too fast, things will get disorganized, for both us and people who want to participate (they might not be able to keep track/choose/remember everything they want to do). If we do many things at once, there’ll be more chance that something will flop, (and it’ll flop harder) and that’ll leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. so they won’t come back when we try it later.
Let people develop a rhythm of casuals, seeing the Supergun at the end of every month, and the leaderboard floating around. when they can expect those things to happen without thinking about it, then we can start Introducing more…
tl dr; No tourney this time. maybe next time. Although I’m looking forward to it. I’m afraid It’ll flop if we do it too soon and on such short notice. (I’ll match your $25 as well, everyone else can throw in $5)
edit: I just created a challonge account. Seems simple enough, and I can use it on my new phone.
