SUPER Tallahassee Thread: Arcade Edition EX+ α

Yeah man I’m free. Even feeling some MK. You got that new character dl’d?

Ron i dont know why you vehemently defend this game and i probably never will, but you’re wrong about my reasonings to dislike marvel. I’ve given Marvel a fair shot, on several occasions and there are just too many issues with the game that make me dislike it, I.E ridiculously high damage, too many 50/50 guesses, simple, gimmicky ass tactics win games, and assists not going away after point is hit. Im pretty sure that if I put as much time into Marvel that I put into Super/AE, i think i’d bebetter off, but i have no interest to. You can call me out and say that Im just saying i hate the game because im bad, but you’re way off base, I have legitimate issues with the game that i can’t believe someone whose been playing Fighting games for as long as you can just sit and ignore.

I think he can ignore them cause he’s winning, bro!

…says the Dudley player?

The assist persistence is annoying but can be dealt with (especially if you play short characters or characters with a teleport). The game isn’t MvC2-level great and is definitely flawed, but the biggest reason you’re not interested is because it requires a completely different style and methodology to do half-decent in that game. This is completely understandable. The game is still very much playable and many of the issues you have (damage aside) are due to your lack of understanding of the system and characters.

A lot of your reasons for disliking mvc3 are things that also exist in mvc2, which is considered by a lot of the community to be one of the best fighting games of all time.

I’ll give you that damage is really high, and xfactor is still kinda broke. But retarded 50/50s? Dude you have no idea the level of retardation that exists in mvc2. The thing is, in mvc2 the skill required to perform a lot of the stuff is so much higher than this game. This game being easy shouldn’t be reason for someone to hate it though, unless you’re in a position where you feel like you are more skilled than the people you play with, and you lose when you shouldn’t because of it…

And to make a ridiculously bold/arrogant statement, I feel like that is the case a lot of the times I lose to several people here in town! Granted I don’t lose that much to the people I’m referring to, but gimme mvc2 and I’m winning 99% of the time where as in this game you can steal a win here and there! (don’t get me wrong it’s still my mistakes that make me lose, just saying the low skill barrier makes mistakes less forgiving vs relatively lower skilled players)

That being said, I still love the game! So I definitely don’t see how anyone on the side that is getting wins when they shouldn’t could be mad about that!

My point is basically that I think the reasons you don’t like mvc3, would still exist in your mind if you tried to learn mvc2. It’s just a different pace/style of game, and maybe that isn’t your thing, that’s fine. But come on man, you know you like it! Is it cuz mike j beats you too much?!

Anyway, long story short, everyone should play Starcraft.

Not yet, but I plan on snagging both of them today. I need to get some practice in with Raiden for the tourney this weekend. Hopefully it’s more than Crespo, Geoff, and i entering MK… Anyone else free this afternoon?

Mike G:

He can legitimately claim that as a Dudley player because of backdash and FADC’able reversals (mainly backdash).

And hot damn, I don’t think you MFs realize how good you are in Marvel to make a claim that certain people dislike a game because they ‘suck’. Just sayin. Tallahassee is pretty effing good at Marvel so anybody who can at least keep up a bit in this community is beyond the point of sucking.

I’m not saying you (being anyone) dislike the game because you lose…I’m saying that a side effect of you sucking is that your perception of the game and how it’s played/why you lose is warped. Example: Drew complaining about 50/50s and ‘simple, gimmicky ass tactics that win easily’. He uses these exact tactics/gimmicks (foot dive spam, Zero teleport crossups) yet doesn’t win much. If you’re DOING these things, but not winning, does that REALLY mean that the game is the problem?

Really, it boils down to this - winning is fun. Almost everyone enjoys winning and wants to win. Only a couple of people around here can still have a ton of fun while losing (in my experience you’re one of those people, Chris). Only Adonis will call out bullshit and hate on a game WHILE he’s winning. Unless clearly outclassed (ex. me vs. Crespo in SF4), when people aren’t winning they tend to look for any excuse not related to themselves for why they lost (Andy is the best example of this).

I would like to Agree with chris statement that losing here doesn’t mean someone sucks. I like to think we’ve stepped up the competition level here in general in most every game in the past few years. Tekken used to be the only thing Tallahassee was good at. We got lots of decent people in marvel and sf both now!

Man I hope a lot of people come to this tournament!

Also, I use exclamation points way too much! Maybe im just always super excited!

Yeah… Can’t say much about that one.

Although I will say this: Adonis will usually keep real quiet about his ‘hot’ shit (gimmicks) and will solemnly agree with you about how bullshit it is when YOU call it out. Don’t be fooled

THat being said, i DO legitimately want to learn the game, but its tough when im getting blown up immediately. how are you supposed to learn anything when all you see is your point character turned into a tennis ball by wolverine? also for some reason i don’t get mad when i play Logan in this game, at all, which is why in order for me to learn the game, I kinda just want to sit down with him and play for a bit, (just not going full force at first, helping to point out the flaws in my playstyle)Just learning this game is incredibly frustrating when sifting through the bs in this game.

@ Mike G: Dudley while having his gimmicks, is not top tier and he’s still extremely execution heavy, i’d probably win alot more if i could follow up on my overheads more consistently. Yes dudley has his gimmicks, but the game’s system kinda nullifies it out as chris said.

I.E my original post was me venting and being called out like that was a little uncalled for i suppose

Hey guys,

Won’t be able to make it out tonight cause Med school is dropping the hammer on me with head and neck anatomy. I got a quiz on Monday and I gotta prepare. Hope to catch you guys next Tuesday!

I think I’m a good person to play with a lot If you want to get better and learn in general. As long as you’re not Andy ( too competitive/huge ego clash with my huge ego) or Ron (learns crap very well on his own) I feel like I can give helpful insight quite often. And I don’t get mad at anyone (other than myself) when I lose! Let me know if you wanna hit some up drew.

I’d like to get some games of Marvel in with you sometime Logan. Even though your Wolverine is an asshole, I did learn a lot playing with you the few times i’ve made it to your place. I even got 1 win against you…You need to step your shit up, sir.

But seriously, I did learn a lot (Mostly about how to block) playing against you.

This is a true statement.

Also a true statement.

Now we’re just having church.

Fixed that for you.

Yeah defenitely, probably be next monday or something for some 1 on 1s considering how busy this week is. But yeah that’d be tight. Thanks a bunch.

Korhal:

That tidbit about learning Fei: don’t waste your time - you’ve got damn Chun and Guile on your squad. If Blanka is slipping, those two can take any character down.

I definitely agree that Logan is good to play against. It kind of sucks to say that I ultimately quit the game because of him (not really him, but over the fact that there were things I couldn’t find a way around that are exacerbated by how he mauled me) but needless to say,if you want to learn, he (and Ron when he gets back) is the go to man.

There’s a reason that house shall be called the Dojo!

Or we could just call it the Arc :frowning:

Logan/Ron I should let you know that I will literally be a hop skip and a jump away from your place (even closer than I am now! Just go down continental until it hits an apartment complex – that’s my place)! When it’s convenient I’d like to roll through to level up some Magneto/Marvel skills and definitely Starcraft 2. Let me know if you don’t mind taking a student in for training lol.
