Why does it matter if they’re “okay” with it? It’s not their authority, their opinion is not the only one that matters. If they’re not okay with it, who cares? We’re still going to play it until we find a reason not to.
^^^point taken.
Personally I don’t see the Japanese embracing this game anytime soon. I could be completely wrong on the issue but I just don’t see it happening. Vanilla ST is a prestigious game over there and like you said…without an arcade release there’s not the smallest chance in the world it’ll get taken seriously.
Yeah I’ve come to realize this myself. We should be able to embrace the games that we like to play over here and embrace the uniqueness of our own community. We still take Marvel hella seriously here and many Tekken players are still playing the shit out of Dark Res. Japanese have PLENTY of games that they take seriously over there that we over here tend to shit on or make fun of.
If they want to use HDRemix in tournaments then the fucking bugs and glitches need to be fixed first. Could you imagine the lifebars having a seizure or the background/character completely dissapearing during the final match?
I dunno, they loved KOF 98 over there right up until UM came out, now everyone who played 98 jumped onto that.
If HDR got an arcade release in Japan, I’d expect it to supplant ST in the same way UM supplanted 98.
extreamly broken.
I suppose it depends on the matchup with Honda feeling broken. He feels weaker to me, but I guess that’s because I play Dict. and he no longer gets a free win from repeated Ochios if I get cornered. Not to mention s. jab stops headbutt. Hundred Hands Show up waaaay more now that it’s easy to do. That can be problematic, but there are counters to it. For instance, psycho crusher beats it nearly every time.
However, just because Dict. can beat him doesn’t mean other characters can. Cammy has a nearly impossible time with him. When he’s doing the hands, all of her shit trades at best or gets outright hit.
Versus non fireballers, Honda lost his abusable throw trap, but kept all the shit that made him powerful in those matchups to begin with…so he’s still difficult to fight.
What makes him specifically broken though? The easier hands in combination with his easier time against fireballers?
Honda is infinitely easier to fight against since they nerfed his Ochio throw. That was GG’s no matter how much life you had left in the old ST. You guys have no idea.
That’s a really good point.
I suppose it could be argued that KOF players in general (as opposed to Street Fighter players) are much more willing to switch up to newer versions (there used to be a new one every year), but it can also be said that the dudes who’ve stuck to '98 all along have had way more chances/reasons than us to switch up to a new game, and stuck to their guns anyway.
I think all the hardcore KOF98 players were just thrilled to have a loving re-tune of their exact and favourite game. I’m the wrong person to ask about Japanese arcades and I sure as hell don’t know my KOF98 players very well, but I got the impression that everyone switched on over… the top names in UM are the same top names from vanilla 98.
IMMA SIT ON YOU SON
This makes me sad. I just downloaded HDR and Honda was my old main.
Guess I’ll be using Ken now.
Because his uppercut sets you on fire of course. That’s just too cool.
Not really that controversial, you have a handful of people that don’t like it, but most are perfectly happy with the new graphics.
Fierce HHS is so ridiculously hard to pull off in ST that most people just use strong HHS instead. Something is wrong when even tournament-level players can’t pull off a move consistently. It’s still not a piece of cake, but at least it’s actually usable now.
I suspect that jab headbutt is the source of whatever complaints are being lodged against Honda. People have been zoning Honda to death with fireballs for 14 years. It’s going to take them some time to get over the fact that they’re going to have to be more dynamic in their play to beat him now.
…
I know CapCom rigged up some STHD arcade machines for 2008 ComicCon.
It would be neat to see them seed some STHD arcade machines in some of the Shinjuku arcades with ST traffic and see what happens.
I’d stay its 50/50 in each camp at this point. I’ve pretty much put it on old sprites and old music since after testing out the new stuff. Remix soundtrack isn’t bad, but eh
I love the new art. Everybody looks great except maybe for Cammy and Sagat (they should have kept them skinny and left Sagat’s smile).
Other than that though, it’s great. One of mybiggest concerns was how the new art would animate. Would Ryu and Ken’s standing neutral animations be just as smooth and fluid as before? Would Sagat’s laughing animation be messed up? But I was relieved that it animates just as well and I’m starting to to like it even more than the old art now.
And I’m usually very picky when it comes to SF art, I loved Alpha’s art but not SF3.
lol, call it like it is.
(I figured Honda was weaker because of the loss of the loop of doom, less dizzy on the uber throw makes life easier too…)
I think they did a good job balancing Honda. They got rid of his cheese moves and gave him better fireball management, slaps that a normal human being can use on command and a much improved jumping LK that really helps against characters with wide sweeps like Guile and Dee Jay. He received a lot of small tweaks that improved his weak points without turning him into a monster.
Honestly, I don’t consider Honda one of the game’s more overpowered characters. Perhaps it’s just me, but I’d much rather something be done about the rags-to-riches Blanka and the “oh my god I bought this game to AVOID Third Strike” Ken.
Blankas a whack one for sure, hes just really tricky to deal with, consistently shutting down the ball seems to be key in dealing with him. (Easier said then done)
And Ken is like a rampaging over the top Ryu, with oodles of kicks. Once you get used to the random DP maddness, and be mindful of the still ass whuppin knee bash, hes not as bad to deal with as the other shotos.
Fuggin Kuma,Kuma,Kuma what a monster, best version of RD I have seen yet, uber DP and combo tastic meat make this one an uber shoto.
Yeah, Akuma looks like he could be pretty deadly down the line, borderline broken even. Time will tell, it’s still pretty early in this games cycle.
