*Waits for Marth to be revealed as assist trophy or alternate costume for Adult Link and then Sakurai say his listing as an official character on their site was a glitch".
With Namco Bandai and people besides Sakurai balancing this time around, I highly doubt the sword guys will be as dominant as they were previously, so anyone expecting Melee Marth let alone Brawl Metaknight will be disappointed IMO.
Melee Marth died a bit ago tear. Those 20% ko’s. Sword ghost properties were fucked with so much. Not to mention we don’t know what the physics are gonna be again.
No, I’m not secretly hoping it. Or overtly hoping it, for that matter.
I’m hoping they get it right. ‘Right’ to me may not match your definition of ‘right’, however. Bear in mind I had an extremely negative opinion of Melee for a while. Yes, I conceded the things players found did help improve some of the game’s issues. On the other hand, the ensuing matches were annoying to watch… or rather listen to. The sheer amount of “clackclackclackclackclackclackclack” and controller destruction going on just upset me. Thus when they slowed things down some for Brawl, I was initially pleased. As time went on, I realized they had gone a tad too far for my tastes.
Now, if your opinion differs? That is fine and I can respect that; that’s the reason we have multiple fighting games to pick from, so everyone can be happy with the one that fits their needs. Or ideally ones, plural, that fit; having more than a single game to enjoy is always fun for keeping things fresh. If you want Smash to continue being closer to Melee, I partially agree. Melee is an extreme I do not quite like, but I would rather games err a bit closer to it than I would having them err in Brawl’s direction. If we can find a happy medium, as you mentioned (though your happy medium doesn’t seem to match mine) then I will be happy with Smash 4.
I’m going to hope that Sakurai and the other developers get it right, though. After all, I’ve already laid down a pre-order and plan to do coverage for the game as it comes closer to release. I want my time and money to be well invested. Better that they get it right and deliver a good product to me, than I go in expecting a mod team to fix the game.
Now, Regarding Marth: Yay! I like Fire Emblem, and while his inclusion isn’t even slightly surprising it’s glad to see this totally confirmed. Hopefully we will get alternate models of the other lords on him; I want Lyn, Ike, and Lucina if possible. While Pit remains my primary character interest so far, so long as Marth/alt-skin is viable (I don’t need ‘godlike’, it’s fine if he’s toned down relative to his Melee incarnation insofar as I care) then I’ll have fun with this addition to the roster. Or, uh, non-removal to the roster I suppose.
Toon Link was at least high tier and as TL main in Brawl I could see why some would say he’s toptier. He has some of the best smashes, he has some of the best zoning, and he has decent mobility.
Link has always been the exception to the rule. Sakurai clearly hates him.
Disjointed hitboxes are stupid in general, especially on weapon characters, but simply dumb in general… What the fuck does Snake need with disjointed hitboxes on his limbs?
