Super Smash Bros. General - Patience and Spacing....or Whine and Moan

I think we all knew this would happen, but it’s good that we got it confirmed so early, I’d hope for Tails and Knuckles too.

Also, the Sonic Heroes theme, really? I know it’s a minor detail, but that’s one of my least favorite main sonic themes :[

I was at work all day and I got a text from people on facebook. I don’t have a smart phone so shit was killing me all day, I was having problems staying focused because of excitement. In other words…FUUUUUUCK YEESSSSSSSS!!! The only issue I have with his reveal is why in gods name did they use Sonic Heroes? You have the whole Sonic library at your fingertips and you choose one of the more ‘meh’ vocal tracks from the series. Nobody wants to fight to that track…I don’t want to fight to that track! Hopefully they’ll do more arrangements and remixes this time around.

Im still analyzing the trailer…doesn’t seem like they’ve done to many changes to him move wise. I’ll change the thread title and my av when I’m not on my Wii U.

I am both incredibly happy and horrified that they’ve brought back the “YOU’RE TOO SLOW!!!” taunt.

And just so you know…Every last one of you is getting trolled by that taunt if you play me. I’m sure you guys would expect nothing less.

Edit:

It’s still sinking in…The iconic trifecta all in one game. Didn’t think Sonic and Mario being in the same game would even happen ever in my lifetime and now this!?

Hmm, Toon Link and Sonic?

Really hoping for more brand new characters. While the additions are okay, I don’t want a Brawl reunion. Only other Brawl character that needs to come back is the swagnificent majesty Triple D.

Interesting. We’re still missing 4 of the original cast. I wonder if they’re being removed because they’re no longer relevant (with the possible exception of Yoshi).

I want Lucas back :frowning:

Based on their release timing recently, the next reveal will definitely be a pokemon(God, I hope it’s Mewtwo). If it is Mewtwo, I’m curious to see if they’re going to incorporate those Mega Mewtwo X/Y forms or just keep it classic. Either way, as long as he’s got the godlike laugh I’m set. Mega Man and Mewtwo are the only characters I need in this game.

Edit: That Sonic combo towards the end actually looked a lot like Project M Sonic. Between that and the Skyloft stage, I’m starting to think Sakurai is taking notes on what the competitive smash community likes. I like that…

Fuck Mewtwo.
It better be this guy:

After watching the trailer a few times and looking over the images I have some thoughts here:

First thing…may want to hold off on the ‘return of proper combos’ based off of Sonic’s trailer. Sonic’s quick and they made him look good in his moves and what not but they did the same thing for him in Brawl. The only possible true combos I saw that were done in that trailer were the sweep into up tilt @:23 (which looks like it actually could possibly combo with consistency) and the Spin Dash into up air @ :29. That being said…Sonic was able to catch up to Megaman with his Up B spring pursuit after the first up air before Megaman could fully recover unlike in brawl where most recover easily after the first up air. If Sonic is able to attack after his spring at any point like in brawl then this is quite promising…

The first hit of his uptilt now seems to drag characters down a bit in the air to make the second hit connect proper (watch :22 in slo mo). Never really had much of a problem with hitting both hits in Brawl but it’s interesting non the less.

Sonic’s design and colors lend themselves well to Smash 4’s art choice and design. It looks like they decided to reach just a smidge more into his classic design in mix with the modern this go round. The plastered smirk on his face looks weird but at the same time…correct. It kinda looks like the smirk was taken directly from the classic genesis trilogy and then they put the smirk in from from the Adventure period for some of the things he does.

Really hoping Sakurai takes a few pages out of Project M’s book and uses more of his moves from Battle.

Holy balls of crap! Toon Link, my fav Link ever AND Sonic are returning for Smash 4? Between this and Mighty No. 9 reaching all of it’s stretch goals, this is turning into a fantastic week for gaming news!

Sigh…FML

Now I have to choose between old mains and a new one.

fuck man, If solid snake is in here then I’m screwed and I’ll be main switching like crazy

All we need is Pac-Man and we’ll have the big four of classic gaming.

And not just regular Pac-Man.

Mokujin mech suit Pac-Man from SFxT.

I just hope that Nintendo wouldn’t drop the ball like Capcom did, by taking an awesome character design and making it into an almost unplayable joke character with re-used normals(from Marduk).

His specials are easily translatable anyway.

It always amazes me how Iwata speaks better English than some people I know locally who, in theory, use it as their main language.

Sonic’s reveal troubles me, because I know the only reasons I’m upset about it are the string of bad games he was in for a while plus just how venomous some parts of his fandom are.

I keep having to tell myself, “You honestly enjoyed the Genesis games featuring him. You really like the ‘All Stars’ racing games he’s in. You even thought Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were alright. He has more than his fair share of abusive idiots in his fandom, but it’s not like my hobbies are full of perfect saints either…”

Then I watched the video, read your reactions… and I have to concede he’ll make people happy. He also offers something interesting to the roster, something only Captain Falcon comes close to matching and even then there are obvious differences. It’s probably time I get over this, stop trashing on Sonic so much, and accept that his franchise is apparently trying to turn itself around. Cool addition to the game, and hopefully he proves to be good enough that we see him reasonably often in play. Just have to get used to “You’re too slow!” taunts, I guess!

AlphaCommando, regarding removing some of the remaining original 4: Eh, don’t worry about it too much. Captain Falcon is almost guaranteed to be returning. They took a guy with no obvious characterization from F-Zero and made him into the series’ trademark badass. “Falcon Punch!” is almost a part of widespread slang at this point. You don’t build a character up like that, then take it away. No way. He’s in.

Ness is more questionable given the series’ general status. I will say I suspect either he or Lucas will appear, though. Japan likes the series enough that it makes sense, and after years of prodding we finally got Earthbound on the Virtual Console. The series will get some kind of representation, and this is a good thing. I actually hope it gets another character this time around, as I am a fan of the franchise.

Yoshi has a decent chance. He’s one of those characters most people like to varying degrees, he adds something good to the roster in terms of play mechanics, I can’t see a reason why not.

The last one… is that Jigglypuff? If so, I simply can’t comment on it; I’m not well versed on Pokemon.

Still, I would rate Captain Falcon as virtually guaranteed, Yoshi at good odds, Ness at 50-50 but someone from his franchise will be in regardless (I’d be stunned if not).

I still maintain that the SSB1 vets have a guaranteed spot.

Pic of the day. “Let’s compete on the jump springs! Those springs can also shoot out other fighters into the air.”

Does Sonic look weird to anyone else? He looks like his model was either stretched vertically or squished horizontally.

We need more Sonic and Villager interactions.

That’s right…Sonic hasn’t had the proper welcome yet…

Welp. Someone’s got a new avatar.
