I think so many krystal fans would rage if Slippy was in. Waluigi is without a doubt the greatest Mario villain? Really what has he ever done to mario besides show up in some side games? King Wart was a lot bigger threat
No DLC, please. While I believe Nintendo could do DLC well, history has proven that character DLC creates too many problems/leads to corruption from the game makers, ESPECIALLY in fighting games/whatever the hell you classify Smash as.
It’s a game based around multiplayer, it makes more sense to just have the initial content so you only have to take the disk round to a mates to play the full game, so yeah, definitely not.
Wario has his own identity and appeal, he is about his money and weird gross out stuff. What does Waluigi bring other then being a bit creepy in any of his other game appearances that they could use to make him something other then either a water downed Wario or Luigi clone? You going to give the fool specials built around him playing golf or tennis?
Waluigi would make the roster only if they wanted to have a Dan type joke character since the Villager and Wii Fit Trainer don’t seem to fit the bill.
On DLC: This would depend largely on whether I thought Nintendo would be willing to use DLC to finance ongoing support of the game. Meaningful support, like fixing any serious glitches that might be found post-release and so on. In theory I would also say “and balance passes every six months or year or so”, but… then I think back to Brawl. Where the overwhelming majority of players (not competitive ones, but the average buyer) honestly think Ike is ‘cheap’ and overpowered. All because they can’t be assed to use the block button. Well yeah, he’s astoundingly good if you just stand there letting him pound on you!
I can’t say I’d want those kind of people having any sort of say in a balance patch. Unfortunately, they’d have the majority say. Nintendo doing balance patches catering to their whining would be disastrous.
So normally I would say “I support DLC if they’ll use it to keep growing the game and pay for cost-of-upkeep stuff.” In this case, no. So the only way I’d support DLC for this game is if they really hit it out of the park on interesting character choices. And by ‘interesting’, I mean the inclusion needs to be so cool and satisfying that I immediately run outside to hip-thrust in the streets because I’m so happy about it. Which, incidentally, I did after we got confirmation on No Tripping.
Edit: For what it’s worth, I’m not entirely alert/awake right now. Upon re-reading what I just wrote I realize the topics aren’t wholly related. My bad.
Here’s a random topic: Let’s presume Zelda is coming back (they would be insane not to do this). Sheik we already know does well enough in fights; she was excellent in Melee and “at least sorta kinda okay I guess” in Brawl. Zelda however has not had such good fortune, usually among the least viable characters. For those who played (or tried to and later gave up) Zelda, what sort of changes are you hoping for in Smash 4 to make her worthwhile? A fantastic U-Smash and lightning kick were apparently not enough. Does her design work on paper and just needs detail adjustments? Does she flat-out not work and needs a major change? This seems like it could be an interesting topic.
Bear in mind Pit gives us some evidence they’re willing to consider significant changes to a character, just based on what we know of him so far. Total reworks might not happen, but apparently things up to and including replacing some Special moves is plausible.
Honestly, I have no idea what to do about Zelda. She has so much potential because she can rack up damage pretty well and kill easily. I do, however, think there’s too much lag on almost all her attacks. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that plays a part in holding her back. She’s also a bit slow as well. Increasing her speed might make her better on the ground. I don’t play Zelda that much so I can’t say. Just putting down thoughts. I was gonna say her floatiness, but that didn’t stop Peach or Jigglypuff from becoming A Tier/S Tier in Melee.
I was hoping they’d give Zelda a redesign based on her Skyward appearance, but since Link doesn’t have that look (or if he does, it’s been altered noticeably), I’m completely unsure what they’re planning to do with her. I’d love to see a complete redesign, honestly.
And as much as I loved Sheik in Melee and Brawl, I think it’s time to retire the character. Then again, OoT was released on 3DS, so that may be justification enough for them to keep Zelda the way she is, Sheik included.
