Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Wii are very amused

I think that whoever was it that said that items should be selectable before a match and assigned to D-Pad directions (like two pre-selected items each player picks) hit the nail on the head. Such a system would reduce the randomness of items and still allow their usage.

…How do competitive Smash players feel about Peach having that 1 in 200 or whatever chance of plucking a bob-omb?

If there’s one thing I want in the next Smash it’s a “Competitive Mode” in which items and stages are normalized in a way that reduces randomess. For example you get 1 every 3 points/stocks you remove from the opponent, and items are either given to the player through a point system (you can buy 3 maxim tomatoes or another final smash for a point system, a cap of four kinds of items including a final smash). or just flat out remove most items and give specific ones specific spawn points on a map at a specific timing. (someone loses a stock, 30 seconds pass etc). Stage obstacles aren’t random anymore, and are either put into a patern or removed altogether in some instances. After that, let them do whatever the fuck they want to do with the game, and release a couple major balance updates for high level players.

This will make competitive players happy while keeping the spirit of the game (dumb shit and items) there, but in check. They can include whatever the hell they want, make it severely overpowered then remove it in competitive mode if its too daunting to handle!

GOING. TO. BE. SO. MUCH. FUN.

Aaaahhhh the waiting is more painful than that of Burning Crusade… fuck I’ve never anticipated a game this much ><

<3 smash

Barely anyone cares from what I’ve seen because of how little impact it has on the match, and the fact that high level players are more likely to catch/powershield the projectile than get hit by it. Although, it is kinda dumb how random it is =/

And re: the classic items/stages off debate, items are too good in smash. With items on, the best player doesn’t win. In Brawl, they MAY implement something to change that, but honestly I doubt it. The nature of items just imbalances the game, you can’t balance 50-100 items with 25-40 characters, it just doesn’t work =/ Smash has the unique quality of both being an amazingly fun, mindless party game, and a serious/competitive game at the same time. I can play it in groups or 1v1, and both experiences are different, but both are also fun.

However, when balancing for a tournament, as people have said, you have to implement things that make the best player win, such as removing major imbalanced and randomness, hence a lot of stages and all items being banned.

Seriously. I already have money saved up for this game. I will not spend it. It’s only for Smash. :looney:

so when are we all going to trade friend codes?..no homo

that is if online is officially announced

I was j/w when is this game suppose to come out is it gonna b on June 1st or Dec. 31st 2007?

Is it worth getting a wii? Cos I’m not really big fan of wii - mote I think it’s kinda stupid just slap ur wii mote arround liek a madman lol. I hear SSBB is suppose to have to be able to control with standard controllers tho… + it’s gonna have on line mode which is cool.

So overall if I’m not really seem interested in other titles should I get a wii just to play SSBB?

its your money, do what you want with it

  1. get your friend to buy a wii

  2. get your friend to buy SSBB

  3. go to your friends house

then again, I only bought wii for one game as well,

though, i’ve been going as paperbowser since the N64 version…

It’s pretty obvious why I bought the wii.

i’m buying a Wii on the strength of Brawl alone.

I’m about to start saving up for a wii and SSBB, I can’t think of a better way to spend the money.

Just another update that shows how integral items are going to be to the smash bros experience this time.

So far, all the announce gameplay innovations have to do with items.

…seriously.

About today’s info: Technically you could already sorta jump with the Super Scope, though once you land, you’re rooted to the ground while firing. Yay for bringing it back, it’s fun trapping someone in team battle in the fire while your teammate breaks out meteor smashes on them.

Really digging the pic with Wario and the sunset. Battlefield will finally not be boring (imo).

I honestly hope that Final Smash item drops more than once. I agree people should only get one shot at it, but I would prefer to still have a shot of finish someone off in a stock match with a Final Smash, even after they have done so to me.

I hope that Final Smashes are like supers and you build up a meter for them, but can also turn them on/off and can only do them once a match. Seems unlikely, but that would be the best way to do.

Announce the shitty features first, the ones that matter later?

Personally, I hope tournaments stay item-free unless item droprate is greatly decreased and made non-random… even then I’d probably prefer it with no items.

Game is too much fun when you get used to it with no items, turning them back on is like having those kind of items in any other serious fighting game, fucks it up.

So they brought the Super Scope back. They need to have the NES Zapper in this mother. Mainly because it’s Captain N’s weapon and since he doesn’t stand a chance of getting into this game at least we can have his fire arm.

Nice, you can move & jump while shooting items.

Do NOT jinx Captain N! :annoy:

Oh hey anything is possible I guess.

Damn straight! :lovin:  :nunchuck:
