Link was a little boy in the majority (all but 2) in the games he’s been in. that’s really why he was in melee. young link really should be the default. not adult link.
If you don’t like him, don’t use him.
Link was only Young Link (canon wise) in Majora’s Mask, and Ocarina, Wind Waker (kinda), and Phantom Hourglass (kinda, again) off top. Don’t let his small, Super Deformed Sprites in the 2D titles fool you.

Of course, they (erroneously) labeled a shitload of games, where he is a “young” Link, as “Young Link”. But that particular model/appearance/design is lifted directly out the Nintendo 64 titles.
Hell, even the original character art for most of the games depict him as having a much taller/slimmer build (especially LttP and Link’s Awakening).
Anyway, we’re arguing semantics. =P

you can argue that Y link only is based on the 3D variants…since each link technically is different…though LttP link is young as well…(confirmed when the GBA port of it came out with Y Link’s voice)

“Young Link” has only been in the aforementioned titles, regardless of what the Statue says, unless some how, a major retcon just took place, and all the Links are one person now, and not different reincarnations, etc etc. Also, that would kill what ever little “canon” The Zelda titles have had.
There’s no way in hell you’re gonna tell me this is Young Link. Not only that, it’s the same Link storywise.
I don’t even think Zelda has a story and all this timeline/all the game having something to do with one another shit is crap that NoA made up to keep rabid fanboys happy. But that’s a different argument and quite an annoying one that I don’t want to get into.
My point is, Link is usually a kid. His profile in every game but TP describes him as being a young boy.
EDIT: As for the picture, yes, the proportions are different than in other games but…Nintendo said link is a young boy in LttP, so yeah.

just because you see him as one character doesn’t mean that is right…Miyamoto confirms it himself that each link is different…what is the same about them is how they’re represented…Link is forever the embodiment of good in a green tunic…as is Ganondorf is the embodiment of evil…that is what is the same about each LoZ in some way shape or form…
