Super Arcade in danger of Closing

I wonder what can be done in terms of modifying the business model because I’ve never been. Could you possibly become a low volume game retailer? Are there only fighting games there? Hell I’d pay some bucks to go to a place and play games if I knew I could arrange meets with random people to play Contra or TMNT with… shrug just a thought.

I would go to an arcade like that…if there were any where I live

I’d probably go towards the casual arcade feel/hangout spot with some more older arcade games like the 4 player beat em ups and just a nice place where people from other communities whether it’d be car enthusiast groups, TCG player groups, and other communities to just come chill and hangout. It’s hard to run an arcade revolved around the FGC and people that only play fighting games because consoles + online are killing it

Damn, hearing arcades close is always heart breaking news. Hope things work out in the end, but I dunno.

Lets go Watts! You can do it!

The people who want to donate don’t think you are going to take donations just to keep a losing business alive for X amount of time. The donation offers are either to help you end the story with smaller personal lose, or to help you reinvent the wheel.

Why would any self-respecting fighting game player not go to an arcade near them, especially when arcades are near extinction? Oh wait, pad loyalists and online warriors wouldn’t. Maybe the reason arcades are dead is because Nintendo conditioned kids to play games on a cheap tv remote.

No, I referring to Microsoft’s Policy not allowing for cross system game compatibility. MS is not allowing any game from being able to be online compatible with players on another system.
As the majority All games must be held on Microsoft’s Servers.
The only exception is MMOs where the Publisher/Developer is running their own servers. Only MMO I know which does this is Final Fantasy XI Online, where the original versions were on PC and PS2. Square Enix never released a European version of the PS2 game as Sony never released the PS2 HDD in Europe.

So in order for Capcom or anyone else to have Cross-System Online Play Microsoft have to play ball with there rivals.

Because I am not driving down the Baltimore Beltway (695) after work during Rush hour in whats normally a hour to a hour and a half drive to a over crowded Dave and Busters to play a game I already own at home.
The other direction out in hick territory there is an arcade but its all Hunting and Racing games with one Ms Pacman/Galaga machine and a MvC 1 in a constant state of disrepair.
Have there be a actual arcade closer to me, I would go more regularly. Honest truth is the Arcade scene is dead, unless there an reasonable arcade in your neighborhood where regular trips are feasible, no one going to support an arcade anymore.

I was only replying to the part I bolded.

FGC are too lazy, brokeass, or cheap to support any kind of a scene. They barely support a scene that’s free, what more if they have to put quarters in it.

Its the same pattern every time…People say we are with you, we will support you, then next month they are too busy, no money, no time, etc…Save the headache, take your loss, & move on. Good ol days at the arcades is over.

Pricing issues solved. You have the ability to pay a flat fee and play all day. Hopefully Watson sees this and tries this. And fuck I should stop posting in this topic.

Did you not read what i said on the quote you posted? They barely support a scene that’s free…Flat fee would be even worse cuz no way those broke ass can afford a $10 or $15 admission…These are the same guys that get all sweaty in a first to 10 $1 money match. These are the same guys that say they wont go to a tournament even if you pay for the entry fee & pick them up & buy them lunch.

Really hope people band together to keep the place around. Arcades are amazing places. Wish more people realized that and went to the few that are still around. A year ago I went to an anime convention and did pretty fair against people there playing fighting games, and after going to UFO for the past 5 months I dominated, only lost a hand full of games just by pure zoning fundamentals. We all need to make sure we support the arcades around us and make them bigger and better.

I beleive GGA also does a ton more than FGC stuff which helps it.

Honestly I think it could be a great idea for Super Arcade to get into the used video games business. They have enough floor space to dedicate a corner to a counter and shelf for games, they are right across the street from A COLLEGE and there are no game stops or other game stores in the area.

You cannot compare Super Arcade to GGA or Walnut to Brooklyn. Not in any way, shape, or form. Flat fee play would not work there.

Cheap and Broke Ass? How bout I have my priories. Bills and groceries.

Part of the thing for us working Adults many who support families, driving in Rush Hour traffic half into a different county just to play at an arcade is not feasible.
People in there late teens early 20s might have the free time and spending money, but some of us with actual work and families to support have bigger priorities.
Hell I work a Job I don’t get weekends, I have to request time off (where I forfeit pay) to have time to go to local tournaments.

The real big advantage of Arcades are long gone, the arcade machines had at one time much more powerful hardware than the home consoles. Where the home ports of arcade titles are poorly done with simplified graphics and sounds. Compare the SNES/Genesis version of Street Figther II to the Arcade version, there a Huge difference. Only home console that could compare was the costly NEO GEO AES (Neo Geo CD was kinda lame).

For the longest time the Arcades had titles the home systems did not have or those games with much more better graphics. Than ended with the PS2/Dreamcast as you stoped seeing the gap between the Home and arcade versions. Where the major difference was you saw the words Press Start instead of Insert Coin.

i feel bad that people are arguing over things in this thread and this situation is obviously unfortunate but not hopeless. can we cut down the fighting cause it really doesnt matter atm. the bottom line is the arcade needs games that cannot be played at home. ie, driving games like initial d or maximum tune, or even shooters like house of the dead series or time crisis. these games get a good amount still and people are still willing to pump money into driving simulators and shooting games. the place just needs a complete overhaul and once again, no point in arguing or speculating just yet guys. i have a plan and working on it with every free moment i can find. thanks for the concern from many of you and wish me luck!

I wish west coast had someone equivalent to Bum screw fgtv.

We’re trying to do that with Freedemonia in Norcal
