Not sure if I misread your question, but if the contact material is what’s breaking down (not the whole membrane) then you can repair it with something like http://www.sciplus.com/p/KEYPAD-FIX_45985 , or maybe some conductive paint.
is that stuff just used to make the signal contact? That isn’t the problem (should take a picture). what breaks is the rubber that connects the conductive pad to the main membrane.
maybe not as long as 8 months, i have pics of the ‘fix’ on my phone… I am gonna try microswitches and was going to update the the 1st post with both alternatives after it was all said and done.
Unfortunately i don’t have any piks and don’t have any other controllers to make another, but it’s honestly pretty straight forward. Just use the rubber membrane on your HFC3P as a guide and cut and trim the xbox 360 rubber d pad to make it match. Once you have the correct size just glue it all together and then trim the edge of it to make it fit the controller.
If you do this correctly it should work just fine. I use my controller nearly every day and the dpad is still very responsive and working perfectly.
Installing the tact switches as a replacement has been more of an art than a science. I really wasn’t in a rush to complete it as i haven’t been playing anything recently. I played a long set with the tact switches last night, its very stiff but super small travel for making contact. I was playing AE and was having trouble with the quarter circle motions when needing to hit that in a pinch. I can adjust the feel by trimming the plastic points that make contact but not sure if i want to yet. Ultimately i have to play a long set in tekken with this mod as that’s my main game.
So if anyone goes the tact switch router plan to adjust multiple times.
Edit: first post edited with dpad replacement summary and pics.
