Strider/Tron cheapness

New tourney match video here, turns out it’s against Liston again:

You know Strider mag tron might be a really fun team to play but I think you should start mags instead of strider…

Wreck house with Mags and tron till you have some bars call in strider and work those mixs ups…

Next time im at the arcade Ill try that team…

man I’m jealous I should get a stand for my camera and post some FFA vids of me losing and winning some. You know in that latest vid you posted, beginning of third match was HOT!

I always thought that they would never jump… but I guess I was wrong lol I’m always in a power struggle for first hit on the ground just to be safe against other chars.

Just wondering, ever thought of timing down the snapback such as:

j. HP -> tron rings -> snapback? it’s pretty hard on the spacing i think you have to be jumping forward instead

I noticed before 5:40 where you had sent but not storm… and you tried that j. lp to get some combos and meter off the assist sent. I thought that was a bit dangerous… I know it’s best to try orbs right after something like that but in a no meter situation

Maybe I would of LK bomb’d for big meter boost into super. Hailstorm hurts like hell though if Storm isn’t trapped in beams when trying to orb this way.

scumbag: I find that Strider first works really well for several reasons:
Strider isn’t much of a catch-up character, but he’s good at setting the pace. That’s what decent first characters all do if you look at BH, Spiral, OR, and even Mag. Strider is risky like all of the others, so if you have a more reliable character behind him, he seems to work well in first position. The other reason is that Strider’s assists suck, even worse than Mag-A, so I’d rather have Strider with Mag-A assist than vice versa.

But who knows, maybe Mag first could do wonders. Right now I’m experimenting with Storm-A and finding good things: storm-a allows Strider to close up on Sentinel during an infinite (exactly like Cl0ckwork does with Sent-g so that Strider doesn’t move too far away), Storm dhc’s well with Tron, and lightning storm into ragnarok or orbs (j. jab, j. strong to juggle) both hurt like hell.

Tam: Yep, that j. jab was definitely a risk not worth taking in hindsight. Short bomb would have missed by the time Sentinel came back down, wouldn’t it? As for timing in a snapback, that’s possible, but I always see strider c. short + tron = 90+ damage for 1 level, so I have a hard time wanting to use snapback  But it does have its uses.

Definitely do make match videos whenever you get a chance.

Too true…strider with mag assist is better than mag with strider assist…

I didnt suggest storm cause I prefer mags over storm but I can see why she is the better choice…her wind assist goes through most everthing…her supers connect with tron…and that bitch can run like no other…

the only advice that I can offer for that team is, like with tron sent assist, tron lp mp+storm wind, fk drill like crazy on a blocking opponent for huge chip…

or lp mp+assist, lk drilll, super jump air dash overhead…I use the chainsaw attack as an overhead…

hope some of that helped…if I can think of anything else ill post…

keep representin strider…

c. short into Tron is deadly.

If you had hit his mag in that third round with the orbs, it would of been a WRAP and Strider/Tron = too much.

I don’t like the spacing off air combos sometimes so I think it’s risky. If you don’t come in with that c. short fast enough you end up eating psylocke for breakfast. Only thing that’s guarantee in spacing in my opinion is just s. hp, sj, j. lk, j. hp or something of a 2 hit air combo.

You’re right about the LK bomb, it wouldn’t hit Sent but protect you from getting rushed. I like it better than the bird because, yes you will hit Sent and there’s always the option of the assist taking the hit and Storm rushing in to kill you.

Meh i guess it’s between LK bomb, bird or tiger when I watch that vid again. Storm can wave dash and push against you for a throw or get out of the bomb range as it’s coming out… but it may not be fast enough because you’re going to activate…

then again Storm doesn’t have that magneto speed

Good shi’t AK, you’re known as “Tron Bonne Slick” around NY, you’re too slick with tron bonne, heh heh. Have you ever considered any thing with the unblockable + Tron? No one cares much for the unblockable these days. I think it can cause some serious damage if you incorporate with some tron setups. I’ll see you at next CF tournament, keep it up!

Thanks man. You should enter some tournaments, too. It’d be good to see more Strider/Doom in these Mag/Storm/Sent/Cable-fests.

Unfortunately I got juiced last tournament by Liston (videos up soon), but I’m going to have to move on to Storm-A anyway. Cable + tron has a lot of shortcomings.

When you mean unblockable, do you mean Sent+tron? Those 2 are decent with each other, but I find once Sent gets stuck in the corner, he’s screwed because of his size. Maybe I’ll have to give it another try.

just throwing my 2 cents in here about replacement for cable. I was gonna mention that when i saw your cable comin in with like 1 level once strider was dead, which simply isn’t good for cable.

Storm and Mags seem like good replacements. I pretty much thought to myself “MST exists, so storm/tron and mag/tron have to be atleast somewhat decent.” I personally have never gotten into magnus because I just haven’t had the patience to learn all his infinites and what not, so i play storm instead. I have been fiddling with Storm/Strider/Tron also with storm starting instead, and yeah it’s actually a pretty fun team. Mags i think is too “one-dimensional” as back up if strider kicks the bucket, and after seeing some of your set ups, im definitely gonna play with this team more. I still don’t think im gonna give up Sent/strider/doom as my tourney team, but I’ve definitely been looking for another more damage dealing based team with strider.

So yeah, Strider/Storm/Tron (team STSTT?) definitely looks like it has some potential, as Storm/tron has already proven to be effective.
