That’s what I thought too. I decided to just go to the tower and beat it. I’ll have more of a reason to play it again to find all the upgrades. If I found them all on the first run through I wouldn’t be as enthusiastic about doing it again
I’m at about 55% completion now. I’m going back to get all the collectables from previously visited areas. Still can’t get through purple doors so I must be an upgrade short
On hard, good idea to find all the stuff first, once you get the Magnetic Cypher you can access all areas for everything, and there’s a really brutal sequence on the way to the finale. Doing the speed run on normal now and the bosses are mostly pushovers. Hard you’re gonna want the full health and energy bar…
Okay, so after a bit of fence-sitting*(and some pushing from Sonicabid and others), I went ahead and bought the game. Started on Hard, and getting my shit pushed in(all these weak modern games have made me soft)*… But I’m enjoying my experience so far.
Okay, Capcom, I gave you another shot, and I was pleasantly surprised… DON’T FUCK IT UP.
Used to think that the analog stick was needed because of the Plasma Catapult. Then I realized that that shizz only points in 8 directions.
Thanks to this, I really wish they patch in a way to swap dpad and left analog, as well as a way to remap buttons (not everybody is using an XInput device).
Well admittedly, the game has a very big Super Metroid vibe. For example the way the map is divided into distinct areas is very Super Metroid. Even the way the level progression works, where once you’re on your way to the a boss, you generally stay within the same area reminds me of that game. Same with how earning a power up usually leads to a series of corridors where you need to use said power up to get out of where you were. Also, Meio’s tower, with the 3 Graviton markers, that’s basically the games version of the boss statue from Super Metroid.
As for the linearity, IMO the game isn’t any more linear than the latest Metroid games.
Yea it’s more Metroid then Metroidvania, but even still I would qualify these types of games as “2D Open World” cuz that’s what they are. We don’t call 3D open world games “ZeldGTA’s” or some such similar nonsense.

Well I think it’s because for the longest time, those were the only two franchises in the genre that caught mainstream attention. At the same time, this was before the genre was big enough for people to apply a formal label. It’s the same way MOBAs used to be known as “DOTA-likes”.
EDIT:
Random thought, some of the bosses would make for great additions to the Versus games.
Yea, and in the same vein as MOBAs it’s time we started using a better term, these open world 2D games are becoming more common.
^I will use this term from now on. I like it better.
Heres my question since this is where I actually couldnt figure it out. How do I get past those 3 trash compactor things in the carbon area that are smashing really fast? I assume I have to slide but after getting hit by it 20 times I just said fuck it and stopped. I can see theres a item there but maybe its a non essential one? Or maybe I just suck at sliding? Or am I suppose to have another item to stop though trash compactors?
You’ve probably figured this out by now, but you have to come back with Option-A.
There’s a couple of items that have been pissing me off in the Research Center. The first is an upgrade in the upper right side of the map in a room where it’s at the other end where both the ceiling and floor are both covered with electricity. I’ve been trying really hard to get across, but I just always miss it. Never mind, figured that you had to jump, catapult, jump then catapult again for this.
The second one is a POW in a large room in the far right. The only way it seems to get to it is via a vertical tunnel that I can’t access because the doors are locked down (red on the map). How the heck do I get past this?
Took me a while to figure out you could freeze enemies and climb onto them. My advice for the costume in the top right of the observatory is to way until you have the Plasma Catapult that freezes enemies as you dash through, it will make it a lot easier.
Figured out how to get to that POW in the research lab. Of course it turns out that actually getting to the thing itself (and one other POW in the same area) once you’ve unlocked the door is frustrating as hell. Gave up for now after I died simply because trying to jump off the well instead made me climb up the ledge with the laser one too many times.
The tricky one in the reserach lab I think is the one going towards the right. There is 2 floors you go go through that doesnt show up as a option. So you just gotta keep sliding and basically unless you knew it was there.
I think the most random one to get those is in the lava pit, you have to to down strike to areas that down show up on the map, then a platform will come up for a second with a item. Totally random, nothing else like it in the game. But its there lol…
Anyway im at a 100% but kinda sucks cuz I have no will to like ever play the game again. Just wish there was some more to do. Game is just kinda a let down at the end for me. I dont think it tarnishs striders legacy by any means hes still a cool character. Just was hoping for some more I guess.
At least letting us carry the color skins over into new games would have helped or been nice at least.
How do I get the upgrade in the research facility? There’s a door I need to open with Kunais but I can’t slide on the vent and the kunais don’t bounce far enough to reach the switch. What am I suppose to do?
I think thats the one where you throw the kunais that have a timer that explode. So you throw the kunais the bomb sets, it rolls down then blows the door open

people still thinking Capcom is going to “do the right thing”?
is it still 1994?
Game doesnt look all that great atm
