For much the same reasons as everyone else, I liked the fight between Ryu and Balrog and the hospital conversation between Eliza and Julia.
(I particularly liked seeing one of my favourite supers, Gigaton Blow, drawn.)
I also like how Ryu learns during a fight and expoits a weakness because it is how I’ve always imagined that as what makes Ryu a strong fighter. The anger Ryu shows towards Balrog and the supportive comments Ryu gives Sakura add much to his character.
Vega is portrayed well - vicious and cocky. I’m glad he remains a formidible opponent and acts smartly (the explosives as a contingency plan). I hope much more is done with this character.
I thought the art was excellent in this issue. The character movements were very well done. The battles looked dynamic and energetic. The character moves themselves are faithful to the game and it is fun for long time players, like myself, to recognize them and they are drawn so well and at so many different angles that people unfamiliar with them would think they look cool and original.
The back up story was interesting. It is good to see Nash again and it is interesting to see where some of the tension between Guile and Julia began. The debut of SF Mini is nice, I’m sure it’s just me, but I didn’t find it really funny. I know I’ll get a laugh sonner or later though, Rey does good work.
One little typo I noticed. On the first Chun Li and Cammy page, Cammy says: “I have a lot sins to atone for…” when it should be “I have a lot OF sins to atone for…”
Great issue, i love the Vega wall jump although the background made it look weird. The pencils and the colours are great.
Also, I found it weird that Eliza and Julia refer to Guile as “Guile”, I don’t have SF #0 on me with the profiles, so can anyone confirm if Guile is his first name or his last name?
Again great issue, keep up the good work, the latest one is always better than the last.
I know what it looks like, but i’m not just saying this to defend the comic:
Vega bounces off nonexistent walls alllllll day in the video game.
The Guile vs Vega fight was all clear for me except for one frame. Guile dodges Vega’s s.HP and then Vega does s.MK which gets parried. Guile catches Vega’s s.LP claw hand, throws him down, tries to OTG him with a Sonic Boom (or something) but Vega does PPP quick roll and does his P wall dive over it to cut Guile’s shoulder as the Sonic Boom whiffs. Then Vega does F+MK and Guile dodges it and tries to do Reversal Flash Kick, but it whiffs because Vega does KKK backflip and Vega punishes with his LP rolling attack.
The frame after that with the Guile upside down split thing is hella confusing though. Does Vega get hit? Or is that just a fancy getup animation?
Everyone knows Charlie is better than Guile in SFA3, but Guile has to catch up at some point right? Makes sense to me.
My only complaint is that Charlie doesn’t die in the short story. Everyone knows that Charlie dies every time he shows up in any game. Udon totally handled the character wrong. (j/k)
“Guile” is the only name he has, just like Ryu. He dosnt have a first name and a last name like Ken (Masters) or Cammy (White)
Maybe if Guile kept training, but he didnt. He wasnt even on Charlie’s level by SF2. Remember Charlie throw off Sonic Booms with one hand, and out of his feet. He was also the US Martial Arts Champion before Ken (for like two years in a row or something) His martial arts and ki abilities are far beyond Guile’s and probaly always will be.
Guile stopped fighting after SF2, as he had no reason to keep on going, so I doubt he’d ever become better then Charlie, even if he started fighting again.
Wow this issue is great. Sakura finally did a Hadoken, Balrog and Ryu’s fight was awesome as well as Vega and Guile’s. The hospital scene was pretty emotional and it’s a shame that Rose couldn’t free Cammy from Shadaloo fully. And best of all, BISON HAS RETURNED!!!
Also the backup story was great and funny, as well as the Cheap Shots!
So Bison was in his Regular mode when he was killed by Charlie in Issue 5, and now that Bison is back, he’s Shin Bison now (the Bison you fight as a final boss in SFA3)
And about the backup story, this is the FIRST time I’ve seen a husband missing his and his wife’s anniversary! God Guile’s so irresponsibe. But now, he’s a loving husband to Julia and a loving father to Amy.
It was also nice to see Balrog’s Gigaton Punch. I hope there’s a backup story when Balrog kills one of Dhalsim’s elephant with his Gigaton Punch, then he’ll fight Dhalsim.
Vega is portrayed very well. He’s smart, ruthless, noble, beautiful, agile and cunning! His bomb plan and escape was pretty smart, and it’s a shame that Balrog went to prison with his mates. I was expecting Vega to flee with Balrog, not by himself.
Ow! So I guess in total he will die three
times.I guess he deserves it.I wonder who officialy kills him the second time.Ken,Ryu,Guile, chun Li,Sakura,Sagat or all together? I guess we will see by Udon soon, but not soon enough.
Yeah, then after the fight, the Psycho Drive will be destroyed, then Bison will be back in his SF2 way (when his and Rose’s soul shares the body together), then the SF2 Tournament will start.
1st time: Charlie (by using his Somersault Justice and knocking himself and Bison into a Chasm)
2nd time: Unknown (possibly Ken,Ryu,Guile, chun Li,Sakura,Sagat or all together)
3rd time: Akuma (by using his Shungokusatsu (Raging Demon))
Actually, I was thinking about that when I saw the last page.
Is this SF A3 Bison? Are they going to have a SF2 Bison or just skip it and the tournament ends when Bison dies and the Pyscho Drive is destroyed? You know, combine both stories?
Like…everything proceeds with the tournie; Guile beats Bison, but Bison tries to go back to his Psycho Drive to heal and Akuma shows up, something something about Bison being weak and offs him. Then someone else shows up and destroys the drive.
Most the events in Alpha 3 can probably still take place leading up to the tournie. IE. Rose facing off with Bison and losing, Ryu’s struggle with his evil energy… etc etc.
Obviously Udon’s going against the canon a bit, so who knows?
I’m probably stirring up too much fanboy trouble, but oh well.
