This brings up another point to debate. If there are some translations that are really campy and just groan inducing, should the translator, or voice director, maybe even the actor discuss it to try and make it better but still meaning the same thing. For instance, I’m not really a fan of Adon saying “I’ll show you just how strong I really am!” It probably wouldn’t sound as campy if he were to just say “I’ll show you that **I. AM.**The strongest!” Something like that.
There’s also the bit of “wrong” and/or debatable translation. Thanks to SFxT for something, but I use Rufus’ Snake Strike as an example. He actually says “force of nature” or something like that, but Capcom changed it so he actually says “snake strike”, which I think is way better.
A good voice director, I think, can stay true to the translation of the script but punch it up a bit to make it more effective. However still, I think whoever hired the English actors for Makoto, Dan and Gouken need to be hired for other work…like maybe for a show on Disney Jr, Sprout, or Nick Jr’s 8am-10am schedule.
Chun Li and Viper are both good in English and Japanese, they’re actually the two i noticed the most that didn’t have one or both voices being horrible when i first started.
Yun in the other hand sounds lame in English, but in Japanese he doesn’t sound all that amazing either, just bearable, i do like the sound when he does lunge in Japanese. XD Also reminds me of the “Daigo - S tier Yun” days.
Aww i wanted to be the insightful one and post that, looks like i lose again, oh well.
That game is going to have so many problems, that date seems way too early, especially for Capcom. Watch this game be broken out of the box like Ultra was, and it still be the only game everyone wants to see at Evo, can’t fight them join them, must follow Capcom, must follow Capcom. \O_O/
I don’t think this amount of time sounds that short. It looks like they already have an engine down and 3 of the 16 characters modeled at least. Having a beta means you’re offloading a lot of testing (and having it get done much quicker than any internal testing group could on planet earth) and just go right in and fix stuff the players find right away.
It’s potentially over a year away, that’s not such a stretch.
Games can develop quick over a year. That release date is actually pretty reasonable. It would’ve been an issue if they were rushing for Holiday release. Plus I’m sure Capcom actually wants it out early enough for EVO consideration as they basically use it as their own convention.
That’s what worries me, you don’t understand, this is Capcom we are talking about, never underestimate them.
RE revelations 2 broken out of the box on PC day 1 (patched, but still stuttering issues non lots of stages
RE Remake tons of problems (patched)
Dead Rising 3 almost broken out of the box on PC and had problems on XB1 (patched a bit now)
USF4 PC netcode butchered from it’s former GFWL glory, “unintentional nerfs” , console version FPS problems (patched)
Probably more i missed, but please, don’t think that’s reasonable amount of time for Capcom, they need all the time they can get (especially for a game everyone thought was coming 2017-2018) and not releasing a game just for a big fighting game tournament.
On the plus side, i saw Tali in a Twitch chat, he’s just shadow of his former self. Q.Q
Those are ports though and more ports are done terribly than actual launch titles regardless of Capcom or not (Fallout 3 had a really shitty PC port on GFWL). I’m not going to claim guarantees but since were getting interconnected PS4 and PC online play without having to develop for XBL, SF5’s PC launch will be much better than USF4’s current state. Far more development time and probably a management/executive willingness to spend capital on developing a new title than updating an old game.
I find people in general (especially in regards to the FGC) have completely nonsensical concepts of development times / costs. They either think something should only take a few days / weeks that should take a few months or they think something wont be ready for like 3-4 years if it’s in alpha state and already been shown to the public and has a marketing team working hard on PR and hype.
I’ve seen some people who were legitimately concerned SF5 wouldn’t be out in time for EVO2017.
You forgot how broken SFxT netcode was too at launch. Clearly wasn’t ready and shouldn’t have even passed QA in the condition it was. And Capcom could have EASILY told us how bad it was prior to launch so we didn’t get surprised. But nope, they just let us spend our $60 on that pile of shit with a broken online experience.
If Japanese Zangief doing Ultimate / Final Atomic Buster isn’t camp or very forced, nothing is.
But it’s very different with each character. While some characters get good voice acting on both English and Japanese side, it’s always about minor things, which one is to get selected. For instance Dhalsim and Blanka and especially Seth (both of them are doing amazing job) are tied.
Then there’s the ones that are clearly superior in japanese. I can’t switch back to english Gouken, Akuma or Ryu or especially Honda anymore.
Then there’s the ones I think are superior, but somehow get criticism from some users (I can’t believe someone said english Vega is bad…)
And then the ones that are just horrible in japanese. I personally can’t think any logical reason why someone likes Japanese Dan or Hugo. Their voice acting doesn’t even fit to the character.
Marvel’s the only Capcom game I’ve gotten at release (though in fairness that’s more about practicality in general, I’m at the point where I don’t believe very highly in preordering). Hell, I didn’t even download AEv2013 which was free because I got tired of SF4.
I don’t fall into the Sunk Cost Fallacy that a lot of people do. Just because you’ve put a lot of time into researching and following a game doesn’t mean you have to play it.
And if I want to relive arcade Capcom…I have Fightcade. I’m good (though it’d be nice if I could find a good hub of information for Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Alpha 3).
