What if they retooled her to be a bit more unique from Ryu/Ken?
Actually, that goes for a lot of the “clone” characters. Just because Capcom said they wanted a varied roster doesn’t mean they won’t tweak more iconic characters for gameplay variety.
To be fair Sakura plays the most different to Ryu of all the shoto-esque characters. If they had to include another one, better her than Ken, Akuma, any possible alter-ego, Sagat or Poison.
That’s why I’m not buying at this small cast intentions. It’s Capcom merely fishing player’s feedback for excuses to get lazy. Not even in SF3, which was their boldest move, they dared to kill shoto redundancy so I expect at most only 12-13 distinct characters out of 16 and that’s optimistic.
SF4 I think has the 2nd lowest % of shotos vs the total cast of any SF game. However SF4 also has the largest cast of any SF game and has 8 characters that could be archetyped as “shotos” to various degrees. The lowest is of course Super Turbo which had 5 shotos (Ryu, oRyu, Ken, oKen, Akuma) and a cast of 33.
It’s like a staple to have Ryu, Ken, and Akuma… you almost can’t have 1 without the other 2.
I would like Sakura to come back only if she sports a new older look. Gym clothes, longer hair perhaps? Although what made her iconic was that she was the schoolgirl that almost all fighting games need to have.
I dunno why @Lemres keeps “WTF” flagging me for simply posting FACTS. Did it when I mentioned there was a few fighting games Ryu was in that Ken wasn’t.
I think thats cuz those were crossover games with Capcom’s desire not to fill in too many similar chars(dunno why then they included him in MVC2)
but if you look at zee SF games then I believe Ken is in every game alongside his Bro Ryu
Because your “facts” are unnecessary half the time. Like we already know SF4 has the biggest cast ever and we know how many shoto archtypes there are. You add lots of unneeded info and it sometimes comes across as trying to show off your knowledge.
I did it for your other post because mentioning the crossover games wasnt needed. When it comes to character selection, crossover games are completely different from picking them in canon games. The crossover info was irrelevant. Should use an example from the canon games instead for a more persuasive case but there is none. Even with your last minute statistics for girls vs boys in gaming; some of them didnt even help your case after reading through it. It’s just over the top sometimes. But i mean this shouldn’t really be that big of a deal.
If ST had 33 characters then USF4 has 187 with Omega Mode and Edition Select. By my definition of everything USF4 has 7 shoto characters (Ryu, E. Ryu, Ken, Sagat, Sakura, Akuma, and Poison) but the percentage of shoto characters has decreased. SF4 (home edition) 5/25-20%, SSF4 5/35- 14%, SSF4:AE 6/39-15%, USF4 7/44-16%.
Can the entire cast have one viable AA. Not A2A bs or SRK’s that trade vs J.Hp/Hk. But rather, one solid aa everyone can call upon. And please, no more cross ups with fire covering them.
Imagine if reversal moves were shit for anti airing in SF5, and people had to rely on anti airing with normals, dang, that would be sick. Pictures Cammy down Fierce, gets wet
U r forgetting Oni and Dan. That is 9 shotos out of 44. Anyways the past doesn’t matter, there really isn’t any need for more than one shoto if the cast is going to be 16. Ryu is enough.
Lol oh yea I remember when @eternal quoted a statistic of gaming gender comparison and he used a “study” centered around mobile apps and flash games that were considered “PC Games” what a joke
Anyways ryu Ken and akuma should be garuntees because their staples and aren’t that hard to produce when you can base them of ryu and then deviate them. Only casual players would think ryu and akuma fight the same or Ken and ryu etc etc. If you understood a little frame data and hitbox info you would see their is no similarity aside from aesthetics of clothing and some normals
Omega Mode / Edition select aren’t the standard though. ST it was the standard to allow all characters. It’s a somewhat valid point I suppose but that is why I didn’t mention it. Interesting you consider Poison a shoto, especially since you don’t consider Dan or Oni one. First time I’ve seen that, I can understand the idea about calling Poison a shoto though I’m not sure I agree with it.
Sure, but not everyone realizes that SF4 doesn’t have the most % of shotos, which personally is something I thought was interesting. Many people complain about SF4 having too many shotos vs other characters but it doesn’t have that bad of a comparative value.
The Ryu vs Ken thing I just wanted to point out they can exist separate but I agreed it was most likely going to be the case. Both things are totally valid to discuss and mention. Judging by your last comment about the men vs women in gaming that is the real reason, you’re holding a grudge over a discussion we had quite a while ago. If you don’t think it’s a big deal you could simply, I dunno, ignore it? But you do think it’s a problem.
Probably included him in MVC2 because he was in Xmen vs Street Fighter. The odder choice was removing him in Marvel vs SF and MvC1 IMO.
@Tali you can @ me all you want I’ve told you before I have you on ignore. You should do the same to me. If you don’t like someones posts simply put them on ignore, it’s a crazy concept I know. Maybe @Lemres should do it too since he obviously has a problem with me. Maybe the same for Intuitive2011 and alexisdabomb. Rather than just going around flagging people (which is something I see Intuitive do ALOT) he could add something to the conversation.
Yeah but then obviously some chars would probably get screwed too probably like Bison’s crHP. I feel like they intentionally make some chars have poor anti air options.
Wow why are you getting so defensive? Like i said its not really that serious. I dont have a problem with you, but if you wanna take it that way then by all means go ahead. Sheesh…
But i’m fine with Ken being in because he and Ryu are basically each other complementary designs
About Akuma, if he must be in i will like if they give him a drastic style change to the point of not being a shoto (or at least become an hybrid char), but keeping his signature unique stuff
Sakura, Dan (wich i like), Sean, Goh, that ginger Arika shoto, Evil Ryu, Violent Ken, Older Sakura, Period Sakura… i hope they stay all the fuck out
You’re talking about Ken, right? He was in Marvel Vs SF. Since Ryu had a Ken/Evil Ryu transformation in Marvel Vs Capcom 1, it’s understandable why he’s the only shoto there.
They may not be standard but they’re just as valid features as the two selectable modes in ST. We’ve just come to agreement that Omega is the tournament format due to its default nature. Just because they’re not selectable in arcade mode or for ranked online play isn’t a real reason as to why oRyu is a valid different character and Vanilla Sagat isn’t in Ultra.
Also, I tend to define a shoto on where and how they play their game and with what tools the majority of their time. I don’t really see a lot of incentive for Oni or Dan to play the mid-screen jump baiting when they tend to be more incentivised towards more aggressive mix-up/block pressure play. Sakura is on the edge but her damage potential for juggling off of DP is huge in this game where as Dan really can’t force jumps all that effectively and Oni seems to have better uses of his meter than making you worry about his crappy fireball options.
