Would you guys care to elaborate a bit on Mika and her matchups?
I really want to love her but my take on her so far is that for all the work it takes her to get the opponent in the corner, she has to sacrifice a lot of potential damage once she gets him there, otherwise she loses her position/finds herself blocking instantly. As a result I feel that after she finally has you where she wants you, she still has to be right too many times because f.HP, c.MP alone doesn’t hurt all that much.
I really love her VT, though. I just wish her V-skill weren’t borderline unusable. As it is now it doesn’t say “come at me” so much as “take my body”.
Yeah R.Mika’s v-skill is one of the few things in this game that I think Capcom should fix, it really doesn’t work as intended at all. Just too much recovery. Maybe we’ll find some useful setup for it though.
I’ve been playing Mika on the side (main Cammy) and she’s reeeally fun but struggles in the midrange heavily against the likes of Bison, Chun, Nash. Of course she’s dominant once she gets some momentum. I think she has a lot of undiscovered tech/setups and she could improve greatly as time goes on. But people will also get better at the matchup and keeping her out.
She seems like a character that you’d definitely need a secondary for, it would be difficult to win a big tourney with her especially since her tough matchups are all pretty popular characters.

Didn’t someone on the Topanga or Daigo’s stream say that Mika’s V-Trigger was the best in the game?
How is rashid viewed as right now?

nope
Giefs st.hp punishes stmk/st.hp
ex bear grab catches wakeup teleports
jumping is something you shouldnt even do too much with gief… except for catching someone with spd.
You can walk nash into the corner and bait his vtrigger.
certainly hard matchups, sure. But you make it sound unwinnable when it certainly is not

Nash’s Trigger and V-Reversal can both be thrown.
You can whiff punish Sim’s limbs. UltraDavid posted a video on Twitter doing just that.

Gootecks had a good view on the Mika MU’s
Mika basicly struggles against Chars with Meterles Reversals, mainly Shoryuken and Cannon Spike, because it can destroy all her work to get in. She’s back to the drawingboard once she knocks someone with a invincible reversal down, because she has to respect them if she doesn’t want to kicked out again and has to get in again.
She’s good against anyone with a bad wakeupgame, thats basicly 3/4 of the cast.

Worst in the game, well that’s what most say. They also said the same about Ryu, until this week cause of Daigo.
They have to risk that meterless reversal though, because if it’s blocked, f+fierce x 2, ex flying peach does a lot of damage and carries them pretty much all the way to the corner. So looking at from solely a damage perspective, it’s a gamble that is more in your favor than theirs really because your damage hurts a lot more than theirs.

No thats not the point.
Mika has allready a hard time getting in against them, one DP Mika has to get in again.
Cammy and Chun are good examples. Mika struggles extremly against them in the neutral already, if she’s now in and gets kicked out, she has to get in again against chars that can keep her easaly out for a realy long time.
She either has to respect their wakeupgame or be at a disadvantage again, thats the whole mindgame behind this and pretty easy to understand.
The risk for Mika to lose anything she worked for is high. Same that you can DP Mika after the first st.hk always, since all of them will press buttons.
It’s a mindgame same with Daigo DPing his way out of everything since ST,he’s still doing it even with the CC’s in SFV.
Of course it’s a little bit high to say this, but you might understand what I try to tell you, if someone is good at mindgames and reading a DP is extremly powerfull.

So, since Ryu got out of his wheelchair and is now DA BEST: what matchups does he have advantages/disadvantages in? It’s kind of pointless to talk about tiers without considering the actual matchups.
I’ve heard people call Birdie a problematic matchup. He also seems like he’s got issues in neutral against Karin.
Also, parry is the best V-skill in the game by a huge margin imo.

Laura suffers from a similar thing but i dont think it’s just meterless invincible chars. People like chun always have meter and can always spend it to fuck with your pressure. Then again blocking a reversal could mean a comeback into death so it’s not all terrible.

lmaoooo…I get all of that breh. All I’m saying is knockdown -> walk up and block is an option in Mika’s game and will blow up any invincible reversal attempts bad. Not disputing that it sucks having her position reset. Just felt the high risk of a player doing a wake up reversal was a bit understated by Gootecks. This ain’t SF4.

I’m sure he knows what he’s talking about and if you look behind this he made a good point.
SFV is all about making the right choices. And walk up block will blow every Reversal up and everyone gets 300+ damage out of this.
Not to mentoi that this wakeup mindgame is THE SAME since SF2, you always lost 40% for one wakeup DP if it was blocked in any SF game…appart from SFIV,where you could just FADC away.
Like I said mindgames, mindgames is something I enjoy a lot.
Mika becomes a vortex character in the corner lol. It gets crazy. I guess we shouldn’t get hit by her.
The worst matchup always involves a grappler LOL

Whenever you see someone saying “you can spam xxx!” you know they’re wrong.
It may be a bad matchup, but far from IMPOSSIBLE. Let’s see the best players of each character playing each other…
