Street Fighter IV, SSBB Tourny - Sacaremento, CA 10/24/09

I got $98 for 1st. There were 17 players in the bracket, not 15 which makes the total pot $170.

1st = $119
2nd = $34
3rd = $17

I’m not driving back to Sac for $21 that’s for sure! lol It’ll cost me that much in gas.

Romeo - how much did u get?

Ok, now I am very confused. I counted 13 total players after accounting for the two crossed-out names on the list. Perhaps I was looking at the wrong list, or GROSSLY miscounted o_o

I got $28, Terry. Hm o.o

The payout is consistent with a 14 man tourney, but both you, me, and Allen gleaned different numbers from that list on the yellow paper. Perhaps we were looking at different lists?..

Again, the list I saw had 15 names, with two crossed out (meaning 13 valid entries). From what I remember, that WAS the SFIV list, but maybe we both were looking at a different list.

Weird o.o

Tourney was dope.session was sik.lol I leveld up at the session thx for helpin me realize my weelness and help me improve. I couldn’t beet tihn all nite till I took yals advice. Ggs to evryone and nice to meet new peeps.yall need to come to the city too.but anyways the name is sicx and I’m still clamin best ken in norcal

yo bro great game at the loser brackets that was an intense fight! i am the guy who use blanka, ill add you on psn to do some battles again, one of the best kens i played…

17 people didn’t play. The crossout names where the ones that talked for to me for a refund which was before the tourny started.

14+28=42+98= 140 pot

Was thinking to jus do 100 , 30, 10 so I didn’t have to break any of the bills since it was 5’s 10’s and 20’s but the actual % was what you guys got.

Thanks guys for comin out and not makin a mess and treatin the stuff well.

**1st Kineda
2nd Shiryu22
3rd vasAZNion13 **

The final match recordin is ok buta capture card woulda been better.

Wish I gotta play a casual against all of you but the few I got to play against nice ryu, blanka, ken, rufus, gen, honda that I got to play. The other stuff I seen also like from rog and cammy, crazy. I saw some pretty clean stuff at the tourny and different kinds of mind games. Nice lesson. Good games.

evo is the PREMIER fighting tournament in the WORLD held in LAS VEGAS. this is a local tournament held at a mom and pop store in elk grove, ca.

toll is 4 dollars not five, but of course you knew this, you lived there.

it’s on saturday, no traffic.

the tournament is at SFSU. there’s tons of free parking around the school.
but you knew this also, you lived there.

oh btw; you were the first to defer people to sfsu. then, complain that people were talking about going to sfsu and not your tourney.

@Som haha There is always traffic on the way to sf city. Jus the part gettin to the bay bridge is traffic. I bet you if you came out of town to sfc you hit traffic either going there or coming back. There was a big weekend event which includes the 24th at cal expo in Sf City. Prolly somewhat big like the Lovefest. Your funny to talk about this stuff after the tourny happened. Still here like any hater and at 5am. Post was way long ago. Tourny happened already. Arguin on the net is useless. People came to it. Good amount showed, enough actually played. There was no rush in my tourny and the flow was fine. Everyone was chill. There were some mistakes but got through it. Talk more who cares. It happened. People there seem to enjoy playin against the others there and everyone one was talkin there was no shyness. Seriously say whatever the hell makes you feel better cause either way a hater is jus another follower.

It is quite unfortunate that people still went to this tournament after the constant red flags. Congrats to those who placed and got money. However, I am sorry to hear that money disappeared somewhere. Please be more careful in the future with what what tournaments and which organizers you deal with.

As someone who runs and attends local tourneys regularly, I think I can offer some CC. Don’t dismiss this post as a hater post, because then it just makes you look dumb and defensive - this is constructive criticism.

Quite a few people didn’t want to attend this tourney for a few reasons:
[]High cost - $15 for a small local tourney is HUGE. With most local tourneys (mine, Fish n Chips, previously Munchies, Droms in Davis), the total entry fee was never more than $7. And even then, some people wished it were lower. You have to understand - some people have to choose between eating out that day and going to a tournament. No, I am not making this up.
[
]High venue fee - $5 is quite a lot to go to the venue. I understand you guys bought pizza/chips/ etc, but I’m pretty sure more people would rather pay less of a venue fee than pay a premium for things they might not even want. I know Chris (Metro Comix) wants it this way, but as the tourney runner, it is your responsibility to communicate to Chris what the community is saying. Perhaps he’d be open to lowering it - who knows?
[]Making the fee breakdown confusing - the way you made the fee breakdown initially was confusing. Even after you changed it, people were still confused - as you saw when we were talking to you about it at the actual tourney. Keeping it simple, such as “$15 entry fee - $10 to pot, $5 to venue. 70/20/10 split” goes a long way, and prevents the fiasco that occurred this time.
[
]Not consulting the community - I understand that this is your tourney, but you have to understand that you will have no tourney if you do not have players. Again, you could’ve checked with the Sacramento tourney organizers, and could’ve also asked the community about what they wanted for the tourney before hand. This brings me to my next point…

Your conduct. I met you in person and you seem like a cool guy. But the way you conducted yourself online made you look like a huge dick. Even I tried to not make any prior judgements before meeting you but you sure made it hard! You have to understand that people may make a judgement based upon everything you do - whether it be an Internet post, the way you talk to someone in person, etc. When we have no prior experience with you and have nothing to go off but your online conduct, we have no choice but to assume that you are a prick. People made some suggestions, asked for some clarification, etc… and you start namecalling, being defensive, and rationalizing tourney decisions. Throwing insults out is uncalled for and makes you look like a jerk. And when you look like a jerk, it’s bad on so many levels - people will wonder if you’ll be a dick and do something shady with the tournament money, people will think you’ll be an asshole in person, etc. Being defensive makes you look like an elitist, bullheaded asshole. So thxyoutoo and Larry are criticizing your tourney. Calling them “haters” is one of the stupidest things you can do - it’s childish, it’s stupid, and it gets no one anywhere. Granted, perhaps thxyoutoo may have been out of line a bit, but you just made it a whole lot worse when you responded. “For someone that goes to a UC you’re pretty dumb?” Come on - that’s completely uncalled for.
Keep in mind that this is coming from both a tourney organizer and avid tourney attendant. You have to understand - a lot of us were wary about even coming to the tournament because we didn’t want to deal with a potential asshole and/or questionable pot. I wasn’t even going to go for that reason, but ended up going because a friend did. And honestly, there’s still some confusion about the payout - because the way the bracket was run, everything pointed to 15 players (1 bye = 15 players). However, the pot was only enough for 14 people - meaning either an entry fee was missing and/or the brackets were mishandled.

Again, you don’t seem like a jerk, but you have to understand that the way you conducted yourself online, and the way the tourney looked like - people are already not going to like you and/or the tournament. And you can’t honestly just call them “haters,” because they have completely valid reasons for not liking you/the tournament. Sure, they shouldn’t judge you. But what choice do they have? Especially when each post gets more and more defensive/asshole-ish.

The tourney was pretty good and for the most part, everything seemed to have run smoothly. But the fiasco about the pot could’ve been avoided had you made it simpler and clarified online. Also, you need to understand that people don’t like it when numbers start changing when the money’s already been collected. You said you were going to take $15 out of the pot for the shirt, but at the tourney, you said $15-20. You can’t do that - every single penny has to be accounted for, and has to be consistent with what was posted in the thread. $5 dollars isn’t much, but it’s the principle of the matter. Moreover, I’m sure people still would want more clarification on the payout - perhaps post the brackets+full results? No one’s accusing you - we just want to know what happened so it doesn’t happen again. I’m not stressing about two dollars, but I am concerned about the principle.

Read this all with an open mind and use it to understand why things may have gone the way they did, and how you can prevent them/change the situation for next time.

Romeo will be the first Filipino president in 2028. You heard it here first.

:rofl: Hahah I’d rather be the first Filipino and first American SFIV winner at Evo :smiley:

Those are not mutually exclusive events, sir. AIM BIG

This thread is awesome. random plug: marn

hey guess what. i went to sfsu. no traffic. how are you gonna tell me? people are trying to give you feed back about YOUR tournament and you’re just calling everyone haters.

if i wanted to hate i’d throw a tournament on the same day next time you have it and steal most, if not all, your entrants.
