Well if you have good computer specs ( Maybe 2007 good parts ) then the mame version runs perfect . Zinc version also doesn’t show certain gfx such as Challenger Entry logo while Mame version shows it . The only downside with mame engine is not having good psx filters and that majority people from what I encounter can’t handle SFEX2 Plus .
does zinc have netplay?
me and shinji tried getting zinc to work on my laptop, it’s a pain in the ass. i’m running ex2+ on psxfin 1.13 and it runs flawlessly. psx version of ex2+ is the best version anyways. kinda wish the emulator is use had netplay though.
Ah damn, hope my combo stuff didn’t get deleted; I need to remember my Hokuto combos cause I don’t remember that shit lol.
BTW, like I was telling Shinji over IM, I ordered EX and EX2 and will have some matches in the future.
I upgraded my copy of vista from 32 to 64 bit and zinc still works for me… I wish I knew why it wouldn’t work for you, but as long as you have a suitable replacement then all is good.
not much to add, was playing EX1 arcade today when Chun. Got her low foward to stuff a fireball but the fireball still came out. however she was able to recover from the low forward quick enough to block the fireball.
also went under a fireball with her low forward at the end of the round… not sure if its cause I won the round so the hit didn’t register or what. but I thought that was different.
I played the ex series and even still have a few of the games and I just don’t see the big deal. Maybe it’s the nostalgia or because it offers characters that aren’t available anywhere else, but I honestly don’t get the deal. I’m not trying to sway you guys, nor am I bashing your preference…I guess I’m asking you to sell me the game. Pitch to me why someone should give this game the time of day.
My problems with the game have ways been few, but were problematic enough to turn me off.
-‘mushy’ gameplay and moves lead to poor hit detection and sometimes unresponsive controls or commands
-camera movements, zooms and pans are distracting
I personally like my street fighters to move crisply, and have moves that look like they have impact. I don’t get that with the ex series, so is there something I’m missing?
Well hits being mushy can be fixed by turning down the great BGM music and turn up the sfx in the game options. So that the sfx from the hits are louder than the bgm.
For controls, I never had a problem with the controls. Well thats not right, very occassionally I won’t get a DP even though I know I executed it perfectly, but on the whole I very rarely have problems with the controls. If I did how would I be able to make combo videos like this?

camrea movement is like SF4, 3s and HDR where it pans out if you two are far away from eachother, and pans in when you two get closer.
But I can’t convince you to like SFEX, either you like it or you don’t. At least you tried it out first, but do try it with some friends and see what happens.
Speaking of the camera, I always found the dumb cinematic for ultras and stuff very intruding and distracting to the action. It just totally seems to destroy where I was in relation to positioning. SFEX is almost devoid of these save for things like Darun and Gief’s 360’s, or Bloody Hokuto level 3 super, almost everything else is viewed from side perspective.
Personally I found SF4’s sound hits to be admittedly more “realistic” but not more omph. But like Shinji said, this is more personal pref and you either like it or you don’t.
What makes me like SFEX is the fact its so obviously a quality product in so many aspects. One things I like in my games are options and SFEX gives plenty be they combo options, the ability to play characters both defensively and offensively without really sacrificing that’s character’ potential. It has the VF aspect in that you get out of it what you put into it; I have vids where I first got in EX3 seriously with ROS at Impact Clash III for the first time up until last year and its obvious the change in difference ; I just don’t get that same level of commitment and satisfaction out of SF4, by a long shot. As I said before the OG SFII team made EX series and it shows by how they made the system and the care they gave it. Its combo friendly, but at the same time not a huge emphasis on execution save for specific characters and combos. For example almost everyone has a universal link of 3 frames, while SF4 insists on 1. To me SF4 is using the link combos to make up for its lack of gameplay since there’s not much else there to compensate outside of players’ mindgames.
The character selection is also top notch in that it includes OG SF characters while introducing Akiras designs which are kinda like SNK in terms of complexity and additions. So there’s plenty of people to play and be interested in, whether you like the new guys or old. All this, and every game has been balanced so that pretty much every character is viable. The presentation is great too, with the music and artwork. The graphics have never been technically good despite the aesthetic design but as a site that plays old 2D fighters and stuff like ST I hardly see that as a complaint now. Also each SFEX game brings different ideas to its core system. I think Shinji made the comparison earlier I agree with; SFEX1 is like ST/SFII of the series, with stronger damage in single hits and few subsysystems. EX2 is the Alpha2 of the series which has Excel and is basically CC. EX3 is like the Tekken Tag of the series with the most subsystems, the ability to create teams, more emphasis on meter management with stuff like emotional flow and team switching combos, etc. What I also liked about the super cancel system is despite being able to cancel into a different super for each bar its damage scaled in a way that makes it pretty fair and you earn meter a rate that makes it flow naturally with the system.
Bottom line is while I can understand people not liking it, the real reason why it didn’t do well because of bad word of mouth from people who didn’t know what they were talking about and piss-poor advertising. To me, SF4 would a much better game if it took more pages from SFEX. Like Shinji said earlier people think SF4 is a build off of SFEX, except better. This just simply isn’t true; they don’t play alike very much at all. Additionally one of my beefs with SF4 is that while I don’t have a problem with it being a noob game (it is, sry) at the same time I don’t feel why anyone should waste their time playing that while it basically looks down on its players. SFEX is much more open-ended; clearly made by people who understood what they were doing.
I’ll say it again, I would fully support Akira making a new SF.

I must of played a different game because I remember plenty of other cinematic things for meteors. Not everyone had one but a couple people had stuff like bouncing people off of other planets or Sharon having the camera move when she shoots her sniper rifle in a certain situation. Regular throws also changed the camera angle often too. I say this only really having played EX2 though. I personally don’t care about camera changes as long as the whole thing doesn’t take forever.
It’s Arika by the way. You said Akira in the other thread too.
Mirc, I said some supers/meteors, but not all. For Example 3 lvl. Garuda Meteor is done from sideview, and so are Ryu and Ken’s. I’m not talking about the finish background changes where the meteors ran down and the planets come up; those aren’t the same and besides they’re at the end of the round.
Thanks for fixing my typo; yeah its Arika not Akira.

Oh ok. I thought you were naming three times as if it was the only time it happened.
Some of those meteors were also distance specific on whether or not it went into cinema mode. Like if you do Sharons meteor from greater than half screen away it’ll stay side view. If its up close then its the unblockable version then and you get the short cinema scene.
Jacks meteor only hit them to the moon if you timed it right, or for the most part didn’t combo into it.
and yes some throws had a longer animation wtih a camera zoom up, while others didn’t. Though in EX3 everyone did change the camera and it recentered the screen so you wouldn’t be in the corner after doing the throw. Not really neccessary but nice in training mode to center the screen without having to press select (or if you were doing it in regular battles and didn’t want to take the time to walk the characters midscreen for the combo).

Fucking awesome.
BTW, I just fuck it with the boot disc Shinji, I saw someone had a copy of EX2+ NTSC-U for 17 bucks so I went ahead and took the plunge. Because I want to hurry up, get my bearings back and post match vids already.
yeah, to be honest I’m not sure why you’d get the import version of the game… other than to collect it I guess.
Well it was cheaper than the original US 30 dollar price at the time by far and I was doing another order as well so I figured I might as well do it as well.
But yeah, its whatever…good news is that the vendor ships first class free of charge so it’ll be here soon. I’m stoked.
Let’s address your problems with the game:
The EX series has ALWAYS had gdlk controls and very detectable input response. You can even TK with some characters (Pullum for example, with lil to NO EFFORT…) before TK was even popular with the newer games before it’s time. So if you’re having problems with your inputs it’s either one of the following:
or
- You’re playing on a Laggy emmulator.
Let’s hope it’s NOT the later.
Camera issues? Since when?
The only time you get a cinematic camera switch is when u cause a knock back with your character (example: Sagat’s Super Tiger Shot)… It doesn’t take away from the game. In fact it adds to the originality and excitement of the match (compared to other street fighter games).
LOL WUT!!! HAVE U PLAYED SF4??? Cuz that which I bolded is one of MY PROBLEMS WITH THAT GAME. LOLZ.
Unless you are blind or deaf or both…there is NO REASON, how you could not tell if moves hits or not in EX games (especially EX+alpha/EX2+). The EX series has the best hit SFX and graphics I ever heard or seen (I don’t care how “old” the games are) in a Street Fighter game.
I dunno buddy, maybe you are reading too hard into the game. Not remembering the game came out long before the FAILURE Street Fighter games AFTER IT. LMFAO!!!
But EX is legit…especially EX2+. :razzy: You can play it or not if u want, that’s up to you. But with any fighting game if you play it more, you’ll learn to appreciate/understand it more. But that’s to each his own I guess…
webster sucks at tournaments like the one thats occuring tomorrow
