Street Fighter Comic - needs you!

Alright, the #1 foil cover with Chunner was $10.00 at my store, so beware; retailers may jack up the price since the print run is so low. There was one DF #0 issue there, but I had no more cash.:frowning:

Just got the $10 Chun-Li Foil Cover. It rocks! Can’t wait for the Vega(Dictator) Foil Cover for issue number three so I can run around like a moran with the cover doing my bad Vega impersonation saying, ā€œCURSES! FOILED AGAIN!!!ā€

Say, when’s my main man Ryu gonna get the Foil treatment?

Man i jst got my SF comic #1 chun-li cover which is dope! but now i learn their is a foli cover damn! wherte can i get it my comic store doesnt have it!

BTW i will kill for info on how to get SF vol #0 i heard it was limited to 3000 copies! please help

peace

Do what I did, I got every cover off of Ebay. The only one I still need is the Toronto one, but I am currently bidding to win that. Plus you can find a lot of them with autographs, I usually gun for those ones.

I am very angry and full of rage that my local comic book store (Lee’s Comics, SM) didn’t order more. So it sold out the first day, and since I work Wednesdays until 7:30, and I have tons of HW, I wasn’t able to come into the store until Friday at the earliest. I am even more angry and fuller of rage that they haven’t been able to get any in. They say that the initial run’s out, and they’re getting a second printing, which will come one of these days. ARGH!!!

DynamicForces.com currently has the Wizard Word (Leaping Akuma) and Toronto (Same as Comic Con with Turbo colors) covers of issue 0 for $19.99. They also still have the DF Joe Mad Sketches in stock (regular and black foil). I don’t think they have any of the Comic Con ones left though.

Hmm… ok, I think I’ve read through all of Udoneko’s stuff on here so I’m assuming he’s the Udon rep. So I guess my questions go to you Mr. Udoneko. I just picked up a copy of the reprint Issue #1 and I do have to say that I like it. I’ve got a few questions though. They may be a bit basic questions but I’m an American comic noobie I guess (I read lots of Japanese manga but don’t really follow American stuff).

First of all. I’m a bit confused with these foils things. I didn’t see any at the shop when I went today but I’ll definately check again tomorrow. Are these foils just cover jackets or is it the Street Fighter Issue 1 comic with it’s own cover?

Second question, the ad in the back for Issue 2 displaying Covers A, B, and C. Are these going to be the choice covers for Issue 2 or are you guys only gonna be going with one of them? If you guys are gonna go with one of them, please use cover A. Cover B went a little bit overboard with the Japanese style big eyes and in cover C Ryu, Ken, and Guile look like they’re 55-60 years old while Cammy and Chun Li look like they came straight out of Aeon Flux. If the Ken foil is reasonably priced I may go ahead and pre-order that since it does look real good.

Third question. How is the work distributed among the artists? I’ve noticed that you guys have lots and lots of artists. I was just kinda worried whether or not if you guys were gonna rotate artists for each issue. I’ve noticed in some other American comics that some groups like to rotate artists for certain serieses totally throwing art uniformity out the window. I found that I liked some artists way more then others and would only want to read Issues done by the few artists that I liked. In other words, it was a complete turn off. Is this going to be the route taken by Street Fighter? Most manga I read is done by one artist. I’ve seen a few instances, in manga, where there might be more then one artist (and of course in anime there are tons of artists) but they’ve been able to keep the art very uniform. Is this a possible a route Street Fighter might take?

Fourth question, I’m really into manga so of course this question was gonna come up… will the art style in some way mimic some of the art done by those in Japan like Masahiko Nakahira? He’s the one who did Cammy Gaiden (the one that people may have seen in State side shops), Sakura Ganbaru, Street Fighter Zero (the CREATION OF EVIL RYU!), and I think a Street Fighter III series (not sure on this one). I dunno, but he’s done some really good stuff.

Oh yeah, this is gonna be a complete shot in the dark but is you guys could mimic Satoshi Urushihara that would be truly awesome. He’s the one who did Legend of Lemnear and many others. Many, many people have been influenced by his style, and with good reason. He’s done a handful of Street Fighter illustrations too which most Street Fighter fans probably have seen but may not necessarily realize it. Here’s a link to some:

The more well known ones are the other ones involving Chun Li. Plastered on T-Shirts, posters, and wall scrolls everywhere.

Well anyways, that’s about it for my questions I guess. Just a bit of a critique here, I’ve noticed there are a lot of people who like Joe Mad’s work, but I guess since I’m not really that familiar with the scene, I find his style a bit odd. For one thing he seems to draw the faces of characters a bit… fat? I dunno. In his Issue 1 cover, I swear Ryu looks like T. Hawk. Then again on page 4 of the back story, cell 2 with fat face Ryu. I dunno… I just feel it looks kinda odd. Am I alone on this?

EDIT
Damn I made quite a few grammar mistakes there. Forgive me, it’s like 2 AM almost. Anyways, I checked out some more info and it seems like Issue 2 is gonna mainly feature the art of Adam Warren (this is based off the one page of Chun Li vs Cammy fight sequence I saw with the silly looking eyes and all). Oh well. I’m guessing that Issue 1’s art was done primarily by Alvin Lee, if so, please feature him more. Just my own opinion but his art style and the way he’s able to capture the action really makes this feel like Street Fighter. I mean hell, Issue 1, page 5, cell 1? It’s Ken’s Neutral Jumping Forward kick. It could have come straight out of the game. Ditto on cell 4 with Ken’s standing forward. Someone did their homework and I really appreciate that. On the other hand, when I looked at this…:

Umm… what the hell is Cammy doing in cell 1? The action doesn’t seem to capture how Cammy fights at all. I’m a big Cammy fan, but I’m also a big Chun Li fan… was cell 2 really necessary? :stuck_out_tongue: I may be a bit nit picky, but that’s really just how I feel. We’re all big Street Fighter fans so we’re all gonna have high expectations. Anyways, looking forward to see more.

Hello, lled78

Thank you for picking up the SF comic book.

Our plan for now is each issue, there will be 3 different covers for the readers to choose from. There will be 2 regular covers, one that will be done by UDON in house artists like Alvin Lee & Arnold Tsang; and one done a guest artist that will be also supplying the art for the back up story (4 to 5 pages length). Issue #2, we sneek in a third regular cover with J Scott Campbell doing the art.

The special cover is called Power Foil, which is a full spread holo-foil enhenced printing with high gloss lamination. Each Power Foil cover will feature a single character doing a signature power move. You have seen #1 with Chun Li, #2 with Ken, #3 will be M.Bison (Vega in Japan), #4 Guile doing a Sonic Boom, and #6… AKUMA!!! These nice power foil covers features paintings by Jo Chen (#6’s Akuma by Arnold Tsang).

Our idea of this SF book is to capture the true essence of the SF game as much as we can, while also to have some fun with all the friends in the industry that also loves Street Fighter. Therefore, each issue will feature 3 parts - a 18 page main story that will be on-going; a 4 to 5 page back up story by some of the top talents in the comic book industry, and a one page comedy gag named Cheap Shots featuring the talented Rey.

Most of us UDON guys are very inspired by the Capcom artists like Akiman, Edayan, etc, especially the core SF team of Alvin Lee, Arnold Tsang, and Andrew Hou. Therefore, the goal of our main story is to provide you with the original Capcom flavor as much as possible. We do not intend to mimic any of the Japanese Manga artists who did SF before, as we do respect their work a lot and we would like to stick to the Capcom house style with our UDON touch.

As for the guests part, we normally will let the guests do whatever they want, and see how the chemistry that will happen when these top comic talent do their take on the SF characters they love. Most found it very refreshing and interesting for a change, and everyone will be kind of having some suprised bonus treat that is unique each issue.

ENJOY!

Arent there actually 4 diffrient covers for each issue including the power foil???

What about #5?

#1 Chun Li
#2 Ken
#3 Bison
#4 Guile
#5 ?
#6 Akuma

Whos number 5, Ryu?

All of the artwork I’ve seen already is absolutely gorgeous. I was wondering if, say a few years from now, you could put out a massive artbook featuring all of the covers, pin-ups, gag-stories and sketches that appear from the series.

Maybe you could do it for the 20th Anniversary.

SF # 5 will have no Power Foil… but…

well… you will see soon…

First you kept Hyper SF2 from us, and now this…you evil, evil people:p

udoneko,

Will all Power Foils come out a few weeks after the regular versions (like for this Chun Li one) or will they be coming out at the same time from now on?

We are still trying to figure out a way to coordinate with Image and the printer to get the Power Foil printed in advance so that it can go out similar time to the regular covers. The tricky part is that we get the initial sales order from Diamond and we have to immediately go to press. That does not give us any lead time as to how many copies of Foil are we going to print (as they are always print to order). Will try my best to adjust them as much as I can. One solution might have to be doing a set limited edition run rather than an open run… but that would limit the amount of copies ordered…

On another note, I just got notified by Image that they have rescheduled SF 2 to 10/15. That is 2 weeks later than the originally planned 10/01. Disappointed, they said the printer has problems opening the files we sent, which are in the exact same format as the first issue… I have no clue why but I figure I should let you guys know so that you do not have to rush to the store next week…

So, to make up for this unexpected crap, I guess I will tell you great guys and gals here what SF#5 Special cover is about -

It will be a 2 layer Power Cel (clear transparency on card stock) cover featuring Capcom’s Shinkiro. It’a a freakin nice super realistic image of Guile and Chun Li!!

We have asked some of the SF artists to work on some special covers and this is the first one that is done! More to come!

That sounds cool as hell. It’s really nice to see that somebody cares about the fans. Thanks.

Dope, UDON! Why does this comic consistently find ways to own me? :frowning:

I’LL HAVE TO WAIT 2 FREAKING WEEKS TO FIND OUT IF CHUN LI KILLS CAMMY IN THERE SHOWDOWN!!! common udoneko please give me a better hint about what will happen with cammy in sf2??:frowning:

I have always loved street fighter ever since i was little and now the comic is great. I have never really collected comics b4 but i really want to stick with this one. So I wanted to know what is there to collect so far? I have 2 covers for #1(cover A and B) and 1 cover for #0(it has a certificate of authenticity and its a black and white of one of the covers for #1,also it says Dynamic Forces). So am I missing anything? Thanx for any help.

I’m pretty sure these are all the versions out right now (someone correct me if I’m wrong):

Street Fighter #0:
A) Joe Madeira Sketch (Dynamic Forces)
B) Joe Madeira Sketch with Black Foil (Dynamic Forces)
C) San Diego Comic-Con
D) Toronto - Same as Comic-Con but with Turbo colors
E) Wizard World - Akuma Leaping

Street Fighter #1:
A) Arnold Tsang Multi-Character Cover First Printing
B) Joe Mad Cover First Printing
C) Long Vo Second Printing
D) Chun Li Power Foil Incentive
E) Joe Mad Cover with Red Foil (DF)
F) Chun Li Virgin Power Cover (Dynamic Forces)
G) Chun Li Virgin Power Cover Foil Edition (Dynamic Forces)

Are there actually two different versions of the DF Chun-Li cover? DynamicForces.com lists regular and foil versions at different prices.

Street Fighter #2 (coming October 15th):
3 regular covers
Power Foil with Ken

I was also trying to collect all the covers but I gave up because it was costing me too much.
