Street Fighter Burns calories?

Perhaps the perspective of the RTS genre is too far removed to make it seem sweat-ably tense for you. A good Fighting game should translate the tension of an actual fight. The risk and fear of “I can’t block another fireball” does seem somewhat closer than “oh no, I lost four lings because I was careless.”

Do you sweat when playing a FPS?

Personally, if there’s good competition and I feel like I’m giving it my all, I’m usually sweating in all three of these genres.

The important question is. Why is this a thread in other games it doesn’t really relate to being a topic?

I can’t recall ever sweating in FPS games but I never really got that into any either. And yea, I can see the tension super quick reflex and timing flurries that happen a dozen times a match causing much more stress than any micromanagement in an RTS or rocket juggling in Q3 or whatever.

I honestly thought I posted it in fighting game forum. I dunno the forum sub groups are so convoluted to me, maybe I posted it wrong or someone moved it here.

PS- SRK is still so fucking annoying, logs me out randomly every minute or so.

Playing video games does not qualify as a ‘physical activity’. It’s sedentary as hell if anything. Humans burn calories just by being alive. You are constantly burning calories regardless if you’re playing video games, just browsing SRK, taking a shit, etc. and even while sleeping.

Also, please never ever compare playing fighting games to combat sports or playing video games to athletics in general.

I know… My point is that you might be burning a lot more than you would think, especially if getting heated and sweating. Like for example, I can leisurely ride my beach cruiser 10+ miles and never break a sweat. Play SF3 for 20 minutes and have to start tearing my clothes off.

All I’m reading is more proof people should invest in good deodorant/antiperspirant when going to tournaments.

P.S. Take a bath before going too.

I’ve had my fair share of tournaments.

HAND TOWELS people

The only thing I can think of burning calories, even if that, is that you’re probably using up blood sugar when playing. After all, if you don’t have enough, you can’t think straight, and we all “fatigue” after hours of playing.

If you want to burn calories, try actually doing their moves.

I hope that the dhalsim players didn’t hear you say that. :wonder:

I’d rather hear what the Viper players think.

I reckon playing on a pad takes more energy and can make you tired a lot faster than playing on stick, at least for me. I think because of the way your holding the pad, that at times you end up tensing your body when you’re playing. Can’t think of any fat pad players e.g. Wolfkrone, Inthul, Vangief.

Smh terrible bump.

It doesn’t change a thing and your point is terrible. It’s not a physical thing, it’s a mental thing. Do you know why many people tend to stay thin/slim in high school/college/university VS. adults at work? Because they need to ***think. ***Using your brain, thinking hard, makes you burn calories.

By your logic, stick players should lose more weight considering the fact that they lay their stick on their laps. More weight = workout. Hell, there aren’t many pad players in the FGC to begin with, your statistics don’t make sense.

I think it is at least a bit physical. I guess it’s up to the person’s pad technique, but I recall Wolfkrone saying pad does tire him out after a while, which was the reason he’s been learning stick for I think a year now. It might not burn a lot of calories, but you do spend more energy IN MY OPINION.

BY MY LOGIC, stick players should all be fat - if you read my statement properly the first time round and wrote a proper argument.

Also, thinking does NOT burn calories. Do you even realise how many fatass academics there are in this world?

More weight = workout? You know to lose weight, output must be greater than input. If your girlfriend sat on your lap, and my fat uncle sat on mine, my calories would just melt away would they?

One more thing. If you want to have a logical debate, refute points that are in the statement, not what you want or think you’ve read. And backup your statements with examples or evidence of some kind. Can’t believe I wasted my time reading your post expecting something somewhat intelligent.

But using a stick, you use your entire arms and all fingers, on a pad you just use use your thumbs… how, in any way, is a pad more tiring?

I guess the only real way to prove it true or false, is to conduct an experiment and measure energy expenditure differences between pad and stick users. It is just my opinion, from experience (one of the reasons I switched to stick), and from hearing some other people.

agreed, without evidence it really could be either. Using logic however I would personally say that the stick consumes more calories just because physical output is higher. But who knows, I doubt it will ever be tested unless it becomes a college experiment or something haha

Smh. Go to the gym or pick up a sport if you want to do something with your body. I repeat - playing video games is sedentary. It’s not even remotely close to being a athletic activity.

You only use your entire arm on stick if you’re playing on a MAS.
If you aren’t using your whole arm to throw doukens, then you’re doing it wrong.
You might burn calories. Like .5 calories.
You aren’t gonna lose weight/burn calories w/ video games. (Maybe DDR is an exception)
Yeah you use energy when playing, but i highly fucking doubt it’s enough to make you feel like a floppy noodle afterwards.
