Street Fighter 3rd strike: Online edition

2p purple aegis? i dont respect that.

Interesting; I knew there was something off about Poison’s colors between the arcade and PS2 versions but this makes all of it clear. Thanks for that info.

P.S.- Black Poison is the hottest fuckin’ color.

i was under the impression that the E3 build is basically done. right after E3, Sven kept referring to the game as being ā€œa candidate for submission.ā€

since last july i wanted to make a random joke about how if 2p aegis wasn’t blue i’d want my money back. that sure came back to bite me in the ass.

You can get EO on ebay/amazon/gamestop maybe/borrow mine lol. Uhmmm but yeah, pretty much screwed :X

Oh wow, P2 Aegis IS always blue on the arcade. Why did I never catch this? lol

Saitsuofleaves: If you have a PS2, try looking for that port of CvS2. I’ve heard little if any complaints for that version.

I would, but my PS2 has been on the fritz lately. I tried to go back to finish saves of RE4 and FFXII and absolutely NONE of my controllers worked, and I tried like 10 of them.

Hrm…I dunno what to tell you then, besides either buying a new console or checking out that thread about CvS2 being playable on the PC.

could be a damaged controller port. my 1p slot doesn’t work that well anymore from using custom sticks on it. for cvs2 or other fighting games you could try using the 2p slot. try your controllers on that to see if it’s a viable option.

sheds tear from the continued talk of discrepancies between 1p and 2p

No, I tried that too, I thought the same thing. Leon continually looking at the ceiling during a boss fight was not fun.

Well, if it’s just cosmetically different and it doesn’t affect the gameplay, I can forgive it I GUESS~

…I do hope Hugo’s special color matches Black Poison though. I was mad about that not happening on PS2. Yeah I know I keep going back to her, but that color is just so damn awesome. Storm dressed like Poison in a nutshell. <3

I shame 3s with my scrubbiness.

So, according to Sven, GGPO was in the card even before Ono came in, in fact the whole concept was conceived around GGPO.

Ha I know what you mean. I went back training in 3S in the anniversary collection on old xbox and couldnt even do Dudleys lk,mk,mp,hp target combo without getting lucky once in 100 times. SSF4 spoilt me silly and made it too easy, timing in 3S is so different and inputs way more strict. Its better that way though, must try harder.

My execution is shit now. I can’t do any Vsav or shoto hit-confirm combos in 3S to save my life. I blame SFIV and my own laziness.

I just know I’m going to feel the same way when I (attempt) to learn this game on a serious level. I genuinely like the SFIV series, for the most part, but it seriously has spoiled so many of us on so many levels. I’m probably going to break down and just start sobbing at some point while grinding to learn this game. I’m going to be so fucking awful. XD

Sigh, so I was right, graphically 3SO will not be the same as the arcade version. It is forgiveable, but still annoying. Good catch Gaijinblaze.

Same. Popped on Third Strike on GGPO today for the first time. Played maybe 30 matches total. About half as Hugo, half as Ryu. I won two of them. Played a lot of Necro, during that span. ALMOST got a full parry of his electricity super. Then I became ALMOST proud of myself. >_>

I swear, though, its hard for me not to play it like SF4. I understand the differences, its finding my playstyle amidst those differences which is the tricky part. But if my opponent is going to let me whip out hadoukens all day, I’ll just keep doing that. He’ll screw up a parry, eventually…maybe…

the hardest part about 3s for me was wakeup situations, especially playing as makoto. once in awhile you can do some wakeup dp with standard characters but makoto is forced to block or parry, and its hard especially vs hugo when he has meter, one grab and you eat a good chunk of damage. same with ken, his grab range is pretty good and his high priorty c mp is annoying to deal with.

Don’t be so discouraged! Might get some flak for saying this, but I think the 4 series exposes new players to footsies better than 3s does. Footsies skills matter in 3s for sure, but lots of players get away with not learning it, so you might not be as behind as you think!

That’s ok to approach it like SF4. They are both SF games. Just make sure you try to be mindful of what makes certain strategies effective in SF4 and question whether it will work in 3s. Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn’t. For one, fireball zoning isn’t nearly as strong. Fireballs are slower, don’t build meter unless they are blocked or hit, and do little damage. They aren’t useless, but its something to keep in mind.
