The VGA switch has the Dreamcast through it’s VGA box and the RGB setup after the sync strike and scaler.
Basically it allows me to switch between the scaler and the Dreamcast I DO NOT run my Dreamcast through anything but it’s own VGA box
The switch is only there so I can flip between the scaler and the Dreamcast with with one button.
Now, I definitely want the VGA coming out of the VGA switch to be changed to component, mainly because I have no way to capture VGA.
The idea was to take the VGA coming out of the switch and split it with one way going being converted to component and being put into the switch, so I can again, control the whole thing by hitting 2 buttons.
Ignore the switches for a second if you want it simplified.
I have my Dreamcast going through VGA and I want to convert it to component to capture it.
I wanna do that EXACT same thing for the old stuff going through the SCART-SS-Scaler combo.
I dunno about anything entirely off-the-shelf, but I’ve heard of this encoder which seems like it’d work fine: www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?222165-FS-SCART-VGA-to-YUV-Converter Seems like it’s a small run though.
I’ve also heard of people using a NeoBitz encoder to get 480p component from 640x480 VGA. It’s supposed to be for arcade PCBs and general 15khz RGB but since all it does is encode RGB to YPbPr and leave the scanrate alone it so happens to work to get 480p from 640x480. The JROK encoder should work similarly but I’ve only outright heard of this being done with a NeoBitz.
You need to reread the link to the device you posted: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=7113&seq=1&format=2
component input, VGA output. It doesn’t just plain work the other way around.
Ok, I linked to the wrong one it’s this. It looks identical, I knew it was working because it showed up on my TV just not on the BMIP.
As for your link… it’d work out for everything I need it to do, I could just take the VGA from my switch, split it and have one go from there to the component switch.
Heck if it’s lagless and helps the picture quality out, I can nix using VGA on the TV at all and just add it to the component switch outright.
Now to track this guy down to buy one and solve all my problems.
Can’t say how differently your TV will/won’t lag with 480p component vs VGA, but since those encoders are entirely analog they won’t cause the component signal coming out of them to lag.
Well both of them have been acceptable. Heck, it might also solve the problem of the current VGA stuff being a major pain as far as image centering goes.
Help, I have not been able to use my streaming equipment for some weeks now everytime I try using the Arcsoft Total Media Extreme software all I get is a black screen. It was working fine and all of a sudden this happens, am I missing a new driver, update, plugin, or something? I’ve replaced all the HDMI cables thinking that one might have burned but I still get nothing.
Any suggestions?
Might sound super dumb, but did you check if your console is set to the correct resolution? I’m assuming you’re using a card that supports 1080i and below. Maybe your console somehow went to 1080p?
I’ll give that a try, I move my PS3 around so much I can see that happening, plus I’m also going to re-install Total Media Extreme. thanks.
Yeah, could definitely be that since the PS3 automatically switches to the best resolution the monitor supports if you don’t manually set it to 720p in the settings. Let us know if it works out for you!
Sad sad news for the Dreamcast/old stuff situation:
My only lead (the neo geo forums guy) seems unreachable, I tried registering for the forum but it doesn’t seem like they take applicants easy and he isn’t responding to his SRK account.
Even if he did, I don’t know for sure if it’d work out. SHEEESH.
Try another encoder? You’d have to rig it up yourself but the Neobitz and Jrok probably both work, the neobitz more than likely should since I’ve heard of people using it to take 31khz VGA -> 480p component.
But I can’t seem to find any of that.
Well I looked at my setting and they are fine, I’m going to try re-installing the software now.
Google is getting me absolutely nowhere.
I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for carrying and storing stream gear? I currently use a tool box and some luggage, but I’m hoping to find one large carrying case, that’ll also help keep wires and hardware organized.
I have a military grade pelican hard case with foam insulation. I had to put pieces of card board in between the tiers so that the equipment wouldn’t fall into different spots. Its still kinda messy but it has wheels and is super durable. The hard case is 3x3x2 so it doesn’t hold my monitors or my desktop, but it holds everything else.
You can use shower bags or smallplastic bins from Walmart, even Tupperware is hella good. Save up bread ties and rubber bands when you can. It makes grabbing cables much easier.
I was using luggage before and it held up for a while before the stress of the gear started wearing down on the stitching. I’m just glad it didn’t rain when that much when I needed to move gear.
I’ve been eyeballing both Pelican and SKB cases right now. I’ll be happy if I can keep my mixer, splitters, cables, and headsets in one case.
Honestly you might not have a choice to get 480p. You’re either going to have to get that transcoder I linked to from ebay or you’re going to have to get a scaler ie; XRGB, DVDO, etc. The scaler is nice since it gives you options to upscale and fix any kind of sync issue the original source has.
