Strategy vs Execution: Where do you stand?

Actually I’m afraid you’re mistaken, it’s about presenting your personal preferences as superior to everybody else’s, whether subtly or obviously.

play more and it won’t seem like a lot. most of the meters and things become second nature. you don’t have to constantly check stuff when you know roughly the pace things move at. you just need to be aware that’s all.

Talking about hyperboles when you are the one that are doing them in the first place

The concepts I’m talking about here are pretty general and widely accepted.

When we’re 5, we think something like centurions are the baddess ass thing ever. I mean look at all those weapons! And the bright colors!

Or back when the internet itself was young, this was everywhere.

Fortunately, people, and the web, grow up.

1/10 for the troll attempt, and that it is only because you mentioned the centurions.

oh man I should know better then to let people know my opinion on here haha

I never said it was a bad thing, I just personally don’t like that thing and I’m used to a game when only one character or two have it at most.

I was not aware of that (I really didn’t get much play with the game yesterday).

Chock one up to being overly annoyed :stuck_out_tongue:

Help, I have an opinion on SRK! What does I do~?

Oh I know, I just like complaining about these things from the get go to force myself to get accustomed to them quicker / better.

I hate myself lol

I see the same argument made by racists, alternative medicine supporters, and similar bigots. Because apparently, these things are under the umbrella of “preference,” and you get to play the victim when someone shits all over them.

It’s actually about figuring out what choices lead to both the most depth and the most accessibility, while not catering to people who want arbitrary difficulty for the sake of it.

And the discussion about having a bar that helps you have some kind of control on your resources is comparable to racism how?

You should know better by now

normally this is a really gauche thing to ask, but are you really Hecatom? If so what happened?

everyone is a wannabe game designer in FGD.

depth depth depth depth depth depfth

I think it’s moreso knowing when to press buttons which is where the strategy kicks in, but yeah he can block.

You talk as if its not okay to try to understand these concepts and discuss them :stuck_out_tongue:

“I swear, everybody talks about how bad Twilight is and how it doesn’t have a meaningful plot beyond MARYSUE! Everyone’s a wannabe author.”

You guys are arguing about bars. KOF13 has 4 bars to worry about (Life, Guard, Drive, Desperation) and i see no one complaining. But then again the game is fast paced if you complain you probably just lost a character

Actually wasn’t referring to you, was referring to stuff like this (Sorry that it was unclear):

Saying you don’t like something is okay. Saying that people who are tired of bullshit hyperbole regarding their PREFERENCES FOR A PASTIME THAT THEY MAY OR MAY NOT TAKE SERIOUSLY TO VARYING DEGREES and comparing that to people who defend racism is shockingly dumb. Also, if what you say were true then every person who says they enjoy the reward of pulling off something difficult is lying out their ass and in actuality like the exact same thing you do… which is also really fucking dumb if you think about it.

bbl gonna make the absolute perfect FG that everybody will love and quit their respective games for because it’ll be the perfect amount of depth, fun, and have the exact right aesthetics.

Man why are you so against people stating what they think would improve things?

Try to work with or against the ideas instead of going after the peoples motivations.

(PS: We talked some about the need to separate what you like from what you think is good for the games a number of times already, stay caught up)

Because you’re talking about it as a flat improvement when it isn’t. I won’t disagree that this scene could use with a variety of well-designed games with differences, but I will disagree with the idea that a specific direction for FGs is a flat-out improvement instead of an appeal to a specific preference.

Also if you want a discussion, then it’s key to be truly friendly and non-condescending to avoid it becoming a shitty internet argument/debate. Not that I’ve been doing that mind you, this thread is personally just a place for me to fart out some posts when I’m particularly bored

Play Mitsuru, the only thing you need to worry about is how much blockstun the opponent has left.

Well if you’re just coming in 'cuz you’re bored, take your lumps and don’t bitch :stuck_out_tongue:

The people who complain about my *tone *are generally people who actually don’t like my content. I’ve realized I can’t please people because they refuse to be pleased, so its not worth trying, beyond basic politeness.

On the subject, I’d still describe it in terms of bloat. We’ve seen games do it well with more carefully designed resource management, and the games that have done it right add an incredible level of meaningful strategic choice to their games by keeping things more streamlined.

Thoreau knew his shit.

Like I said before, the whole point of training mode is to improve you consistency - minimizing dropped combos. Do you really expect new players to learn their combos and setups during a real match? I don’t think so. It’s similar to how boxers do a bunch of solo training (heavy bag, speed bag, skipping ropes, bob and weave training, etc,) before heading into the ring for sparring.

Even top players like Viscant, Sanford and Fanatiq agree that training mode is a necessary tool, especially for execution/combo-heavy games like MvC2.

Why aren’t more of you playing Virtua Fighter? There’s only a life bar!

Too many is clearly opinion/preference. Play more fighting games, you learn to be more accepting of their differences instead of wishing they were all HF.
