Gotta say, now that I’ve seen this, Chun-Li does not sound like Laura Bailey. Hope they didn’t cast a new actress. Either way, I’m pretty stoked about it.
Knowing Marvel has a lot of great writers, it would have been great to hire one of them to write the full story mode, these cutscenes are extremely dull.
When I see the cut scenes, I geek out a bit when two universes interact with each other. However, the dialogue is wack.
That bit where Dante and Hawkeye have a challenge on how many drones they can beat, it irks me when Hawkeye just ended the competition with "Let’s say it was a tie"
I like to say my maths isn’t wrong because I’m godlike at it but Hawkeye just beat 10 drones to Dantes 9. And then he says its a tie.

actually a marvel writer Frank Tieri is involve with the story for MVCI. he’s the same guy that did the character dialogue and endings for MVC3.

I was stoked about story mode. But after watching it (full playthorough found on youtube), I was very disappointed. It was atrocious.
Anything of note happen? Any hints for future characters? Any Venom?
If you don’t want to wait for the game to be released tomorrow. Beware: It’s bad. I love story modes in fighting games, but this was (dare I say it) worst than SFV

They did reveal the first 4 DLC characters: Monster Hunter, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Venom
Voice acting in video games is almost always atrocious… combine it with terribly sloppy in-game model animations and for me it’d be almost impossible to ignite interest in a story mode in any possible way.
A better fit would have told this story with true COMIC BOOK ART sequences. I mean, it’s Marvel Comics… it would be fitting. Just not Udon; fuck Udon.
I would disagree with “almost always” (though to be fair, I’m a VO, so I’m biased), I think things have come a long way in recent years, compare things like Uncharted, God of War, etc to Mega Man X4; it’s just that the effects of the recent voice over strike is probably starting to be felt. That said, the models to me don’t feel like current generation and it does distract quite a bit.
Don’t forget the redub of Symphony of the Night, Blazblue, No More Heroes, etc.
I wrote about this in the SF Lore page, but I sat down and watched the full story mode. Here are my thoughts. I didn’t think it was bad as some of you made it out to be. It has a lot of things that bug me, but overall I found it alright.
I’ve been REALLY critical of this game lately (the collector’s set Infinity Gems (screw ‘stones’ I’m going old school) sealed the deal on my levels of disappointment), so I went in this trying to keep an open mind. My thoughts:

I found that I didn’t hate it.
-I wish Rocket sounded more like the movie version
-Eh at Cap and Tony getting at odds again? Minor as it was, I’m tired of them always being so easy to clash. I miss the days when heroes were actually pals
-The models still kinda bug me, but it was rather watchable
-I did like how the heroes interacted, it was what I wanted to see ever since I Was a kid.
-I really feel like we missed out a chunk of the story by not showing how some of the main group from different worlds met, as a result it felt like there were more gaps than there should have been. Like it get two universes merging, but I’d like insight in how Capcom’s world is “normally”; does Street Fighter and RE take place at the same time, or is it like how there’s marvel 616 and Days of Future past, etc? Just One universe with other games happening at the same time in different dimensions???
-I loved the camera work, with the models spruced up
-I liked Ryu and Banner being teamed up. I can imagine Ryu helping Banner with his rage issues and leading to a more balanced Hulk. They made note of how they were part of a research team – who else was on that shuttle? Who died? Just random scientists and helpers or some recognizable faces? Hadouken + Gamma Crush on a dragon? Yeah, that was pretty sweet.
-I dunno I dug seeing Frank West, Haggar, Chris and Spider-man antics. Haggar and Spidey in partucular feel right together. I can imagine him, not quite being as pissy as Jameson, but getting quickly tired of some of Pete’s antics.
-Some of the dialogue felt flat
-Morrigan and Ghost Rider was fun, her casually doing Darkness Illusion to flirt gave me a smirk
-Again, not having any major connections or view of the convergence leaves a lot to be desired. I hope there’s more storymode installment be it full cgi in a future seasonal upgrade or by text, I just feel there’s a lot of potential to move the story forward, but it feels incomplete. So many characters just know each other and I’d love to know how their initial meetings went.
-Nice to see Jedah being not 100% evil, but “well-intentioned extremist”, but uh…what happened that KILLED 1 million people, again, it feels like some IMPORTANT STUFF was sheared off.
-I get that this is a fighting game
-I miss Dormammu’s old voice, it was a nice pinch of inhuman with a commanding voice. Here, the effect is a bit too distracting for me. I’m a firm believer in letting the voice actor do the brunt of the work to make the performance distorted and inhuman rather than the fx.
-I really would have gone in a different direction for Firebrand’s voice, I get that they maybe wanted to go for insane, mischief-bringer, but it doesn’t work for me.
-Liked Dr. Light’s voice, a nice upgrade from the “dogtah wowy” days
-SOme of the movements and body language felt a bit off – there were times when the gesticulating was really forced:
Spencer: We gotta let him go
Ironman: Uh…what’s that word I’m looking for? NO! random sweeping wave of the arm
-Interesting. I don’t know much about the Strider Manga, so I didn’t know that he and Meio have this immortal dance of death
-Really liked Meio’s voice and design
-I get that sonics are a symbiote’s weakness, but for Spidey to be instantly free after a car alarm is ridiculous. Being closed in with a ton of giant churchbells inches away were what famously purt the hurt on Brock in the early days. It lacked the proxmiity intensity and thematic coolness. I dunno, I just thought symbiote Spidey would be something more significant, but it…yeah
-Loved Jedah’s voice a good performance. He even made the high-pitched laugh work
-After Jedah leaving, the scene of Cap, Chun, Ryu running in to give the stone to Tony looked really, REALLY bad.
-Storyline wise, it’s weird that the cast is still so small without any explanation. We know more characters are coming with the DLC, but I could understand if they made mention of other support teams keeping the world from crapping out as we follow these main characters. I dunno, they didn’t even imply they’re dead.
-Ugh, I frequently lament when editing is badly done. Seeing the scenes before the convergence make things a lot better. I actually like Jedah approaching Death and then her using Thano’s schoolboy crush on her to set things in motion. I actually liked seeing Ultron and Sigma converse, it’s just that some things felt like they were on fast forward. I get that happens due to the medium, but still.
-Hmm, with regards to Mega Man X, when does this take place? Wasn’t Sigma killed off permanetly in X8?
-Why did it take them so long to get infected? I could have been certain there were several moments when the virus was seen floating around in the air and they didn’t seem concerned
-THe SOul stone + Dante “betrayal” made no sense. Why would Sigma willingly take the stone from Dante and not suspect foul play? I mean yeah, that’d be a cool way to beat him, but it’s wasted on making him go into his final boss form.
-I like the idea of not a “re-wind to the way things are, alls well that ends well ending” – the world’s are still merged and the losses are still there…slight problem, they never said who died, they never gave any real attention to that. They threw out a statistic of 1 million at one point. It doesn’t carry any impact, especially at the end when Cap has the “we honor the dead” line. I didn’t want any of the main heroes to kick it, because cheap death is something I hate about modern comics today, but if there was mention of someone, then it’d have impact.
-I dunno, overall I thought it was okay. I didn’t think it was anywhere near atrocious, but it wasn’t great.
I’m curious to see other thoughts. What did you like, what did you hate?

What a cringe fest. I miss simple arcade endings for characters.
I chuckled when Chris turns on the sarcarsm after Thor gave his speech about how the infinity stones could revert all the problems the world was suffering and about how “the dead might live again”.

[details=Spoiler]- The introduction sequence is exactly the same as the Story Demo from June, so if you played that - you already know how it goes. Ultron Sigma does the speech, the heroes fight against the drones, they enter the prison to free Thanos, they come back, Ultron Sigma comes in, and bodies everyone. Then Heroes retreat to come up with a new plan.

The Civil War scene after that felt super forced. Like, SUPER forced. It’s a reference for the sake of reference and serves really no point for the overall plot or that specific scene. Thor suddenly is the voice of reason here. Also Ultron Sigma apparently can communicate through the infected?

I like Black Panther’s voice, also the Monster Hunter girl is cute, even though she’s all armored up. AND SHE’S THICC -
Ryu and Hulk taking down Dahren Mohren was sick. Actually one of, if not the best, scenes in the entire story

Spiderman looks mad weird in the story. I think his ingame model is done with proper proportions. What the fuck was Frank doing inside AIMBrella? Dude honestly had no business being inside the facility

The special conditions like Dr Strange dealing more damage to Dormammu are pretty nice touches, so the story takes notes of canonical rivalries between characters within each universe

Mayo teleporting around the stage is also pretty cool. I honestly think the Knowmoon and AIMBrella stages should’ve had Mayo and MODOK to be more proactive, like react to the action happening on screen. Mayo’s defeat however was… well, fucking lame lol

The flashback scene is interesting. So Jedah is basically the main guy. Then he proposes Death to trick Thanos into getting the stones and merging the universes. Then Ultron basically says “fuck you” to everybody and the convergence happens.
In other words, Thanos is a thirsty motherfucker and entire story happened because he wanted to smash Death. Excellent. -

Can’t say I entirely understand why are the heroes slowly getting infected. Does this mean when they exploded the Symbiote with the Knowmoon generator they unleashed the virus that spread across entire globe? Like, I’m pretty sure some characters were inside the Tower and shouldn’t have been affected

Ultron Omega honestly looks kinda sick, and there’s yet another Megaman remix! Fanservice, ho! It feels weird how Megaman got more respect in a crossover series than his own. Just like Smash Bros, oddly enough. The final boss battle is kinda boring though, feels like an MMO raid with how much health Omega has. BUT THE INFINITY BUSTER THO!
