@%&*! Stole My Art - SFIV

yeah but you still didnt draw the picture. making a “wallpaper” out of someone else’s picture doesnt mean you own it. doesnt matter how much time and effort you put on the wallpaper. its still not YOUR properly. he doesnt have to ask for your “permission”. dont see why you are making such a big deal out of nothing. his response to the situation is hilarious though. so random…

and lol@ thread title “stole my art”

That is categorically incorrect. He has rights in his contribution, specifically his creation of a compilation, even if not to the underlying assets.

The Furious One, I hope it works out for you.

Thanks Freaky Hibiki (top tier av btw )

SNAAAAKE, but if I had drawn the image would you also say that I have no right since any characters “likeness” would be property of the original designer?? He didnt choose to use it for the original image alone but for the photoshop work I had done to it.

Youre welcome, and thank you! If you want an explanation, this summary may be helpful. It happens to focus on American law, but it also applies to the U.K., and Im sure eBay knows whats up.

different story if you drew the actual picture. then you have the right to be FURIOUS. sure the original design may not be yours but whatever you drew is yours so you can call it “my art”. otherwise its just random photoshop work.

Depends, I think that what the furious one did, falls under the Fair Use Act as long as he’s not selling it. It would indeed be, his art.

Even random photoshop work is art, it’s all subjective.

Wait, you’re mad that someone took a wallpaper you made to be used by the public and is making money off it somehow?

Come on now. This is the internet guy, and you created that work in that vein, are you jealous he’s making money off of it and you aren’t?

I mean I’m not downplaying the work you put into it, but given the situation what’s there to really go on?

^ exactly. like I said he isnt selling the wallpaper you put together using udon artwork. he is selling ARCADE STICKS. the picture is just a bonus.

The pictures is not just bonus, its his main selling point! If it werent for the picture what difference would it compared to the 100s of other people selling arcade sticks.

I believe it does. I’ll see what Ebay says, I’m sure they will investigate properly, if they say I have no rights because its just photoshop then I will gracefully accept defeat :karate:

Actually no if you read my previous posts. Some people on this board do accept for payment for custom art work, I do it for just premium subscription.

And he hasnt sold one yet!

If the work contains copyrighted material such as SF characters, they no longer can.

I have to agree with snake and chibi.

If it’s not your original drawing in the first place then I fail to see why you would be so upset. You said yourself it was an image that was copyright by Udon and Capcom and just because you do some editing work on it, it doesn’t really give you the rights to the original content.

That guy selling his sticks on ebay is obviously doing something wrong, but that’s a problem he, Udon, Capcom, and Ebay can deal with. Like chibi said, this is the internet. You posted up a “free wallpaper” for people to use. It shouldn’t be a surprise that someone ended up using it on a stick. You should take that as a complement that he ended up using yours.

These kind of situations don’t really annoy me that much though. He’s just trying to sell his sticks and not trying to directly sell artwork, so I can sympathize with his situation a little more. I’m not saying it’s right though since the art it is still part of the final product. Anyways If you are really that aggravated or concerned about it just contact Udon or Capcom and let them handle it.

This whole situation seems kind of ironic to me though. You’re upset that someone is using “your art” and making a profit from it. Imagine how the original artists of other works would feel when people on SRK were making a profit off mocking up some images together in photoshop and calling it their work.

I’m just glad to see wiz put an end to selling “custom artwork”. I liked going to the trading outlet to see people sell their custom sticks, joystick parts, etc. and during one period all these custom art threads started popping up. I can almost assure you that there would have been even more from new people if no action had been taken. In my personal opinion, it was degenerating the trading outlet.

Good post glOry, you’ve put the point across well.

Capcom, Microsoft, Bungie, Bizarre Creations, Ubisoft and Epic Games have seen my work, one MS developer even had my wallpaper on his monitor during an video doc, another was photographed using it during X0 so I don’t think they have a problem with it.

Anyway I’m alot calmer about it now, probably because of your post lol  I’ll ask Capcom if there’s anything I or they can do about it

what you gonna do…ask capcom to go after EVERYONE selling arcade sticks with artwork? or just the dude using the wallpaper you put together using udon artwork? let it go man this is not a big deal. capcom/udon dont really care about these things.

this.

Ive seen so many people using/selling “my artwork” with sticks/cabinets but nothing ever bothered me.

Spoke to Jimmy Rey, he basically said that Capcom does not support people profiting from their art nor their fan’s art without concent. They only have jurisdiction over their own material but their legal team is likely to file a cease and desist letter.
