I haven’t been keepin’ up on 3S. I’ve been tryin’ to learn MvC2 and ST (along with Eternal Fighter Zero) recently.
O… to bad there NO 3s cab at the mall!! so you can practice plus if they had 3s at the mall ill come like every 2-3 days! wanna try to make it to the gathering maybe this weekend i dunno if knice is gonna be down to do it thoguht he seem busy lately… O well whenever he has the time:annoy:
Wimseys doesnt need any new arcade cabs, what they need is a fucking air condition system, it’s brutal in there on hot days.
YES that is ture
your right it like HOT!!! in the plus with the musty DDR player there WHEW!!! your guy know what i mean:rofl:
Man, I remember like one of the final days of summer where you would walk into Whimsey from either entrances and you can easily feel the musk in the air from the sweatin’ population of many fighters that showed up.
ok so i guess it would be hard to get stockton players down here…how bout we go up to whimsey’s maybe fri or sat…djcream i remember going down there a few weeks ago and playing a guy with that team…for a team like that your pretty good with them…do you remeber playing a black guy using p-groove cammy sagat blannka…well that was me…boomers will never get mvc2 3s or tekken DR (sorry bear…whats up by the way)…they don’t kno (boomers) how to buy games…they were planning to get rid of cvs2 until i had to change their mind…let me kno who is going to be at whims. either on fri or sat at least 2 of us from modesto is going to be there maybe 3 or 4 so get back at me

Hmmm that sound cool if u guys come to Stockton… I think we couldnt head to Modesto cuz some people had to work on other thing but if you guys are gonna come down than Cool ill call People Up! if you guy are up for it
I’m gonna be in stockton saturday afternoon. Is Whimsey’s at the mall?
Yeah, Sherwood Mall (not the one on the corner of Pacific/March but just down Pacific a bit). It’s soundin’ like Whimsey’s goin’ to be super busy tomorrow so bring your A-game tomorrow or don’t plan to show up at all. I know I’m goin’ to bring the hurt with K-Zangief/Chang/Cammy
nm not going
Today was a pretty good day considerin’ the turnout. I hope to see ya’ll again this Friday.
Well Whimseys has been fun, but we need something a little more bigger with better quality games and such…
I’m thinking of actually making a petition for a new arcade, The Stockton gaming community is actually big with good competition, it’s just that we are spread out and distanced, some people even feel like it’s not worth going to Whimseys. Our city is growing at a quick rate, why can’t the same be said for this community? Everyone other interest has facilities for their business, so can we. We also need people who have just as much a passion for the games we play working there. The ladies who work at Wimseys are cool, but we need others who will see day by day as to what needs fixing etc etc.
Well, this is more or less and venting, and i’m just coming up with ideas from boredom.
If you think I should go threw with this, and pursue it I will, for you guys.
So the question is, if I took a course of action, would you all be there to support me?
You still working out in stockton bro? We should all get together over zekes one of these days and get some street fighter back going on in stockton
Also, that incidence of the money being stolen was not through one of the tourneys that the PPD crew use to throw, it was some of the golfland kiddies. (I know you know this, just clarifing for the youngsters in the forum) It was a shame that happened.
The problem with arcades in stockton is that most of the people going there end up friends with someone working there, and get all their coins for free. These are the regulars.
To make matters worse, the regulars usually look like little thugs, so now families don’t feel safe to bring their kids out here to play games (and these are the people with the money), and it compounds the issue.
One of my buddies Tony, that runs stockton based http://www.taotoys.biz is scouting locations to open up an anime/comic/collectible store in Stockton. I am working with him, and It would also be a place that held regular, structured, street fighter (probably other games too on occasion) tournaments. Though not a full arcade, it would be somewhere where the community could get together and battle it out on working equipment (though may just be some DS’s being run on a tv, or projector, with arcade controllers).
Either way, I think it is a more viable option than someone opening an arcade in stockton. Arcades are having trouble staying open across the country.
Another option, is to really get on naughty nicks ass, and make their place not suck ass anymore…but I really doubt that is going to happen.
Ok, I’ll throw out a little info for the real old schoolers from stockton.
There is a lot of talk on this board about golfland, golfland was NEVER the place where the real street fighter players hung out. The real deal players use to play over at pacific avenue bowl. If we got bored there, we would head over to golfland, naughty nicks, west lane bowl, or that downstairs arcade in the mall (the name escapes me at the moment) and kill off the competition over there.
Pac bowl on a saturday night was a sight to behold. There was competition coming in from sac, and other areas to play. We use to gamble on the games, and there was times there was so much cash falling down on your hands it was hard to pull your moves off ;). There was this guy that use to come down from sac, tall black guy, had a pretty good dhalsim (not zeke good, but pretty damn good at a time when NOBODY played dhalsim).
A good portion of my youth was spent there from when SFII first came out, up till, I think alpha II or III, can’t remember if that hit there before we started playing elsewhere. 90% of the time there was CONSTANT competition. So much so, that we would make the long walk from Edison high all the way over to “the alley” if we had as little as .50 - a buck in our pocket, because we knew once we got on the machine a quarter could last hours.
Anyone that remembers the alley during slow hours remembers “poor man style” where you would fight until the end, then block fireballs until you had the same energy level, and got a tie. This worked up to 10 rounds I believe (we were fucking pissed when we both lost our cash the first time on champion edition when they limited it to 4 rounds ).
Stockton never got the recognition that we deserved. I remember me and zeke heading to sunnyvale once in a while, they had 2 machines back to back, we didn’t want to battle each other, so we would each take a machine and run it until we had to leave, or take a monster piss.
This was mostly before tournaments though, or at least, we didn’t know about them if they were running in the bay or no.
We usually went over to san fran to battle too, there was this little ghetto arcade, I think up on market or something, around the corner from a ton of strip joints and porn shops. That place was dirty, but there was always good battles there.
Matter of fact, most of the friends I have now that I hang out on a regular basis, were built from playing street fighter. Me and zeke kinda knew each other before, but just in passing. Really became friends over heated battles between his dhalsim and my Guile. Few of my other friends too.
I really miss the days when street fighter was more mainstream and there was always competition to be had. Road trips to find new battles, looking for 24 hour joints that had street fighter, like the donut shop on alpine, etc.
I hope capcom can get it’s act together and come up with something that isn’t horrible, and bring fighting games back.
This is true. To me the definative “stockton gaming experience” was over at Supercade on Wilson way. Nothing speaks more to the “Stockton scene” like playing SF till 3am with hookers, crack heads, bums, and drunks loitering outside and hitting you up for change or a light. Not to mention the workers bringing over their friends and blazing up fat joints. The night wasnt complete though without some gang bangers stoping by to lend an air of impending violence. Nothing like getting your tires slashed, a bottle through your car window, or somebody pulling a gun on you due to a game of SF.
That’s cool, i’d like to know more about this store, i’m a big fanatic on collectibles.
The gaming doesn’t sound too bad neither, this is something I hope goes threw, i’m looking forward to this.
