easy, talk to anyone who likes the game in the scene. they’ll tell ya how to mash.
Glen - Depends how you define scrub. If you mean we’re not as good as some of you guys, then guilty as charged. I see a scrub as someone who tries to be competitive, talks about improving and getting better, but takes no steps to play or learn in order to do so. In that sense, I think there are barely any scrubs in KC. We may not have the insight that some of you guys have but lots of us are newblood. We take our games seriously and are doing our damnedest. Very few true scrubs here, sir.
I was gonna write one of my signature essay style huge ass wall of words on the Marvel topic but I’ll try to keep it short. Marvel 3 is high variance. Matches end in a few hits, its easier to get hits, and hits result in a ton of damage. The success or failure seems to come before or after the “mashing” or combos or resets or whatever happens. Consistent players in this game, imo, are players who know how to mount a constant offense, whether it be from past marvel experience or whatever. They’re putting themselves in the most situations that they can obtain a hit while preventing themselves from getting hit by mounting an airtight offense. The other type of players are zoning teams. They’re keeping themselves out of situations where opposing players can land that hit.
Pure blocking, attacking smartly, and being solid doesn’t get it done. I mean, how many times have you watched someone play MvC3 and said “Damn, he had some amazing defense.” You don’t and I doubt you will. Just my two pesos. I still dig the game a lot. Guess I’m a scrub.
Yo Rex, we’ll continue playing tomorrow man. I’m just not feeling it right now, man. It’s just been a shitty, fucked up day for me. Really sorry, man.
@Glen - I’ll try and get some cash together for Max Out so I can go.

nick - KC has that fire no doubt. 3 times as more than STL. my point is that KC loves marvel 3 all because they are starting to get alot of wins where as they cant in games where skill is ACTUALLY involved. all i see over there is them sucking on marvel 3 nuts. when i said scrub = it was meant as mashers.
to make it short…“very much mashers here”. i dont think KC is scrubs. just lots of mashers.
psychoshot - WELL THEN! IM LISTENING! GOOD SHIT!
Yeah, man. When is it? I’mma talk to my folks about it.

weekend of the 19th. heading out on the 18th.
for those that think they sooo good in marvel 3, show up to max out. free monies, right? mashing = money!
damn, AR needs to show up soon unless people will count RJ’s as a tourney. if so, raeli is getting shit talked everytime i remember. “see you at the finals” blah blah blah. BULSHIT!!!
On break from learning Mag Loops:
Rex you got anything good for Mags? You have have more time in on him then I do haha.
Where are those Barrage Loops? I didn’t you try it in the video. haha
I guess Ill be seeing most of you guys at maxout.
Glen: I need to get some training in Super at some point cause the hyperbolic time chamber is better in STL then in Springfield.

I gotta be up there too lol and its rough cuz i be hearing about it all the time too :P. LTH though- love the haters :D.
Masaki- lol not really, dash and mash? Wolverine loops would require training mode and i try it and leave in 5 minutes
Psycho- GG’s yo your main problem is you play auto pilot and do way too many reversals/wakeups. Play footsies with bison…right now you only hold backwards and then dash or jump to move forward. Don’t be afraid to walk forward :wtf:. I’ll get some more in with yah next time you want to play lemme know.
Again this goes for everyone, hit me up if you want to play .

masaki - as rex posted, he only had 10 hours total of mvc3 play time. i dunno if he’ll have any mags juice yet. you might wanna give him a week play time then he’ll have some grimy shit for real. knowing rex, he’ll have some good shit up his sleeves.
ill give you some training for sure. we’ll plan something out on facebook.
ill take a 4 hour break off srk since an old buddy (cvs jeff) is here to get some super goin. peace.
rex - lol. as they say, ppl be hatin…you doin something right. also, mvc3 training mode + 5 minutes = sounds about right. LOL!
Just played an online player match against a Sentinel player. Beat him a few times, then for shits and giggles, picked Sentinel too. He’s playing Mag/Sent/Trish and I’m playing Sent/Joe/Doom. Match starts, and I do a crouching Medium, and he hits a button. What happens? Magneto now has less than half life for one combo with a stupid character.
EDIT: I also did it against his Sentinel too, with two meters and no fucking X-Factor.
Fuck that robot.

STL knows drama!
here’s my 2 cents on mvc3.
LIKES:
-the presentation of the game is awesome
-the mechanics of the game are good, such as flip out state, knockdown recoveries, more mind games are involved in that type of stuff.
-aerial exchange is pretty fun new guessing game feature added to the engine. i like it.
DISLIKES:
-x factor level 2-3. x factor to me is like the biggest high and the lowest low you can get. when you win using xfactor level 3 against what seems to be unfavorable odds, you’re like…“yup, x factor 3 BABY, sooo good!”. you feel good about it. but put yourself on the receiving end of it. it feels like shit to lose to level 3 x factor when you are winning by such a big margin. it’s just not a good feeling to have to lose to that. it’s very unsatisfying. nobody likes to lose to x-factor level 3. x factor was designed to give players a high. but for me, losing against x factor is a much stronger feeling of dissatisfaction than for me to win using x factor and feeling satisfied. it’s kind of like the casino. i like gambling and winning money but the feeling of losing money walking out of the casino is a much worse feeling. but people keep going BACK to the casino because it’s FUN and the high keeps them coming back. that is who x factor appeals to. the people who like the high better than the low.
but at the end of the day…i do LOVE winning using x factor level 3. but like i said, i HATE losing to it much more.
To be fair, that sounds like any number of people when SF4 came out who still defend that game. The game is just as guilty as MvC3 of rewarding scrubs and mashers, the only reason people are crowning Marvel king of the shitpile is a) x factor is just so much more blatant than ultra and b) people at the highest levels of 4 figured out how to beat mashing.
The biggest problem I see in vids right now is that people need to stop blocking with their faces  Nobody blocks! Everyone is just slapping buttons, so of course if Sent. does launcher you’re gonna die cause there’s super armor on that bitch. Same with Dormmamu. If people realized Chaos Flame is almost instant maybe they’d stop getting hit by it:rofl: People are losing left and right because they’re trying to think of this game in MvC2 terms instead of MvC3.
FAKE EXAMPLE:
NOPE. Right now playing smart will get you much farther than playing the game proficiently execution-wise if you can only do one because everyone is dropping combos and making input errors that lead to death when facing a certain group of characters (sent., dorm, doom, etc).
Honestly, on a national level it’s not as if MvC3 has rewarded scrubs monetarily. Justin and RyRy were still at the top of Winter Brawl; sure there were some less-than-stellar players in top 8, but I don’t think anyone made money who is a known scrub.
Both games are garbage, imo, but at least I have a lot more fun playing MvC3 than SF4. However, that doesn’t mean I would even bother taking Marvel seriously
paul’s post=the only one worth reading.

Paul - you my dude, but in terms of winning by mashing…you are a complete idiot. I agree both games are rewarded for mashing, but marvel you can mash and still get dial a combo. Where is that in super? Mash a dp…woo 5% off unless you have ultra that can get something good off it(ryu sagat). Mash any button in marvel, yay a character is dead. Now comes x factor. you can bait dp. You can’t bait marvel mashing.
Sure in time it will be figured out but by the time that comes around, ttt2, sf x tekken, tekken x sf, ae will be out and marvel 3 will just be a side dish.
Ok, so think of marvel as a different game. Alright, let’s mash our way to victory. Thats just stupid. A lot of us are playing outside of marvel 2 but still doesn’t help when mashing trumps all.
The end
This is my opinion on Sentinel, like 10 times over.
Don’t get hit by random Sentinel launcher and ‘all’ he can do is chip you or do his command grab (which is slow and he has to tick into it off a cancel usually, leaving him vulnerable to advancing guard). His only low is d.
, and it’s hella unsafe on block as well as very slow. I think lots of characters can punish his launcher on block too depending on spacing.
Also I think people need to consider using crossover combinations (whatever it’s called when your assist comes in and immediately becomes point) to punish predictable strings. Or x factor out of blockstun and punch the robot in the dick.
You can bait advancing guard and mash light the same way you can bait throw tech in SF4 - you delay your blockstring. Only in MVC3 you delay the cancel instead of going for a move with frame advantage for a link. Also you can pick assists that have high priority like Tron flame or Amaterasu Cold Star and combo off them hitting you. The biggest thing is making sure you set up the assist right so that the assist doesn’t get hit by the same button you were trying to avoid. With Chun I can do s.hp xx jump and come down with air dash j.m.
I think it’s kinda silly you’re saying mashing is safe. You really can’t find any ways to beat it with your team? Fuck, Magneto cr.:h: xx flight -> s should make low mash whiff. Or a tri jump. Sentinel can just lol and cr.
. Zero uses his basic offense to beat mashing - call assist, teleport behind the opponent. Even if you get hit by a fast light your opponent will get hit out of it and you get a combo. Dante blows the fuck out of mash with instant air Hammer (qcf :l:, qcf :l:). Ryu can instant air :l: tatsu or SRK and super cancel on block. Hagar and Thor have specials that are plus on block so that if you follow up with anything you’ll beat your opponent’s mash.
/rant on game I’m not good at

Mashing is relatively low risk high reward unless you’re playing the handful of people as of today(3-7-11) who will punish your bitch ass for it.
P.S. I might money match Sanford at Final Round in Marvel for lulz.
