yeah someone bring the updates!

i guess alan, jjj, and glen didn’t make it out of pools

SB4 Day 2 Update:

DAIGO VS JUSTIN FT10:
Let’s talk about the daigo vs. justin first to 10 match first. Daigo won 10-2. It was really cool how they set it up. but don’t let the 2 wins fool you because it was an absolute ASS RAPE and shoulda just been 10-0. justin did NOT know what to do. watching the matches, it was clear daigo is just on a completely different level. Justin played rufus at first, got wrecked, then switched to boxer, it got HYPPPE when he picked boxer, he played boxer for a few, then lost 2 or 3 times using boxer, then he played rufus for a few. then he switched to viper for the last 2 games. when daigo kept winning, everyone knew what the outcome was gonna be. he was just in justin’s head.

Team Tourney 3v3:
so anyways, me, jjj, and glen end up playing joshdafunk doc’s team first. we beat that team convincingly. but their anchor who played rufus was really good, i lost to him in the team tourney but then jjj, who played 2nd beat him. it was funny cause jjj had tricks, hop crossup to ultra but it didn’t WORK, and jjj said…“it’s because his reactions are too slow” LOL, it was soooo funny. then we played eric kim’s team again, i beat actionhank, but then we get ocv’ed by demon hyo’s blanka. :(. i beat him the first time around but maybe he downloaded me, lol.

so all in all, we got top 8 in team tourney, and we took out a really strong team(javvitz, issei, and chris hu). so i’m pretty happy with how we did overall.

SINGLES tourney:

I lost 3rd round to this chun player. then i have to work my way back up from loser’s bracket and i end up playing him again and lost again. he was pretty good. but i think i coulda had him, i just played bad, not tryin to take anything away from him though, he played well and i underestimated his skill, i’m not used to playing against people who can react as fast as i can. so all in all, i got 4th place in my pool. sigh.

jjj ended up losing to sanford kelly twice. he lost to him 3rd round and then lost to him again in loser’s finals. jjj ended up playing 3rd place in his pool.

glen lost to justin wong 3rd round and then got sent to losers, beat a guy, then lost to a gen player.

SO, basically, this trip ended up being really fun, had a good time, met a lot of people and played against a lot of really good people. I’ll have a follow up post after this to describe my thoughts about everything else.

SB4 UPDATE FUNNY STORIES RECAPS:

  1. player vs. chris hu. iloveujoe says… you know this matchup chris while at the same time i told glen…“you know this matchup glen”. LOL. glen won, i guess he knew the matchup more.

  2. jjj was playing chris hu and it was blanka vs. ryu…his ryu likes to do overhead a lot, and it got jjj a few times. and jjj figured it out and punished it. jjj was thinking in his head…“do that again”. he punished it with jab blanka ball.

  3. i took a strand of my hair out and as we were walking to get food, i told them it was a lock of daigo’s hair. and i kissed it and smelled it. but then they said…“that kinda looks like ur hair”…they figured it out

  4. so jjj plays blanka as everyone knows. during the tourney, people played boxer to try to counter blanka. jjj beat every boxer there. he was describing the how he anti airs with c.mp, it was the funniest description i’ve ever seen. it was like a scooping motion with a weird sound, LOL.

  5. jjj plays this guy in the singles tourney. this guy has a really good rufus but since jjj beat him in the team tourney, he thought he should counter-pick using abel. if abel blocks blanka ball, he gets free ultra. so this guy gets ultra, and jjj does blanka ball and gets punished with ultra. JJJ abused blanka ball after that because he had no more ultra, LOLOLOL. he was like…“no ultra? blanka ball ABUSE”.

  6. kaal doing target combo with rufus, and it’s BLOCKED, and then goes straight into random ultra…it WORKS…frame trap is what we said. then jake(og joplin) does the SAME thing a few matches later and it WORKS on kaal. LOLOLOL.

I got 17th… stupid s4nford…:frowning:

I will never forget the GS tournament JJJ you are forever my enemy…my first competition and I was so close…THE MEMORIES HAUNT MY SLEEP DAMN YOU BLANKA!!!

P.s - Ima need a ride to the Aerial Rave 2 event anyone wanna help me out, Ill help with gas money

holy shit that’s awesome. jake was there huh? good fucking times!

Allen - Good stuff:tup: Sounds like you learned a lot and with this tourney under your belts, you guys will do really well at the next major you go to.

lol frame trapz

daigo’s triple threat #1

daigo’s triple threat #2

I got pretty hype when the announcer on the stream was like “we got aks216 showing off a ryu combo exhibition” and I knew you guys were gonna play. I really thought you had demon hyo allen.

Also they interviewed funkdoc on the stream at one point and he was talking about Seth matchups and how Ryu is probably his worst matchup, then he said he got beat out of singles by the same ryu player, aks216 from stl. Its cool he got your name and location right cuz when you guys were on the stream for the team tourney the announcer said jjj was from new jersey and is a big SC4 player who goes to tourneys up there.

“JJJ is from New Jersey, an infamous SC4 player.”
“Oh, then him and Demon Hyo must know eachother pretty well.”
“Yeah, they do!”

:expressionless:

edit: Also, gotta do two things now I guess… stop smoking pot and find a real job. Anyone got dat hookup? Or anyone know someone who needs Graphic Design?

Yo Aaron, are you down for games today? Imma hit you up later…

Peace…

Well, all i gotta say is good shit guys. I expected you to do well and you did. Is that 3 of our players(from the midwest haha scrubs) in the top 30? I was hearing up to 250 entrants, anybody know the final total? Im proud of you guys

Beating that beastly new york team was enough for me. I wish i could have gone, all my new shit would havev worked. You know all my new tricks, and i didnt see anybody do any of them Im not suprised JJJ can beat javits, humbag, etc even when they play boxer. He plays(and loses) against me all the time mauhahah, how can u lose when u train with MY boxer. PR rog is pretty sick tho i gotta admit. And he was the one who found s.lp xx ultra…hmmmm. But yeah jay, good shit taking out those guys…i knew u guys could run with any boxer, any ryu(chris who? hehe)
Oh and i finaly found out who i beat first round at evo in winners. Grand Calc? or something. He was the boxer on Damdai’s team. I had a feeling the guy was good, he never ex rush punched me.

Yo, is there a hook up today?

Yeah I lost to Alucard’s Boxer and Eduardo Perez’s Boxer.

No shame. 4-2.

I also beat a Gouken player who beat the hell out of Fubarduck. Fubarduck is… not that good at all. Aaron is definitely better. I also beat joe in casuals 1 game 2/3 set. Took a round one of the games he won. Glen is definitely better.

Midwest is not far from the coasts at all.

wow… I guess you forgot all the times I beat the shit out of you in the tourneys… and how you crawled back to me and begged me to split the pot…

You’re not getting any job in Graphic Design unless you go to school for it - sad fact of life. So many bad designers get paid a shitload just because they have a paper saying they passed some classes. So either go back to school and/or go back to Target/retail.

Normally I don’t post much on SRK at all but I think its time for me to pass on some things I learned this weekend at SB4 from the perspective of a fairly average player.

I’ve never seen so many GOOD players in my LIFE all in one area. Almost everyone at SB4 was on point when it came to playing and its pretty crazy when I think back to all of the fierce competition that was going around this weekend. I normally play very casually in the first place but after this weekend I just want to level up and get better all together, but we’ll come back to that point later.

First of all, good shit to aks, player and jjj. You guys were awesome in SFIV teams, while the STL crew wasn’t in full force at SB4 you guys sure as hell made sure to make people work for their wins. MAD props to the three of you, it was definitely fun to watch you guys play. It also tells me that STL is doing pretty damn well for what we have, lets keep this going!

I entered SFIV singles and HDR singles at SB4, sadly I turned out with a disappointing record but I will use this to fuel my interest of these games and try to do some hard core improvement. I don’t think I want to just play for fun anymore, I want to start pulling some more wins. I also learned though that you can say “I want to win” as much as you want to, but in the end it all really just boils down to how bad you really want it. I obviously didn’t really want it that badly due to my lack of practice and poor performance generally when it comes to tournament matches, that is to be expected of course. You will only get back what you put into it, and a half-assed effort for improvement will just lead to a half-assed performance when you have to play tournament matches.

Whether you are very busy in your life or not, leveling up is something everyone can do. We all just have to get it together and not only put in the effort to get better, but more importantly do it because we like playing fighting games.

I don’t doubt there is a single person here that can’t use levels, but at the same time there isn’t a single person here who cannot help one another improve. Knowledge is a powerful thing, naturally if there is something you want to know then you seek it out until you find it. We have a bunch of good players here, I’m sure many of them would gladly help you out at something if you need improvement, I know for a fact I will utilize this as much as possible.

Sure, we all may live a considerable distance from each other but atleast we have a scene going, we should really utilize this and help eachother out so when something like SB comes we are ready to beat the best with our better.

SB4 was definitely a humbling experience for me, but at the same time it really showed me how many players worked so hard to get where they were for SB4, good shit to all of them.

Good shit to all of the STL crew that showed up to SB4, and good shit to the STL crew that stayed back and cheered us along. Lets make sure its someone from STL that gets that fight money next time!

Also, good shit to Jeff for showing everyone what was up in TvC. That man is an absolute beast in that game, I have no doubt STL houses one of the very best TvC players here in the states.

If there is anything else I forgot to mention, my excuse is that it is 3:30 AM in the morning and I am freaking tired.

Lets get hype STL! AR2 is coming soon, lets show everyone else whats up when that tournament rolls around.

Josh, let’s get some games in sometime man. Let’s start bouncing some good ideas off each other.

You still haven’t seen my new “secret weapon” in HDR.

Well, I am going back to school for dat paper in spring, I just need a shitty minimum wage job for a little bit. Preferably one that doesn’t drug test.
