Normally I don’t post much on SRK at all but I think its time for me to pass on some things I learned this weekend at SB4 from the perspective of a fairly average player.
I’ve never seen so many GOOD players in my LIFE all in one area. Almost everyone at SB4 was on point when it came to playing and its pretty crazy when I think back to all of the fierce competition that was going around this weekend. I normally play very casually in the first place but after this weekend I just want to level up and get better all together, but we’ll come back to that point later.
First of all, good shit to aks, player and jjj. You guys were awesome in SFIV teams, while the STL crew wasn’t in full force at SB4 you guys sure as hell made sure to make people work for their wins. MAD props to the three of you, it was definitely fun to watch you guys play. It also tells me that STL is doing pretty damn well for what we have, lets keep this going!
I entered SFIV singles and HDR singles at SB4, sadly I turned out with a disappointing record but I will use this to fuel my interest of these games and try to do some hard core improvement. I don’t think I want to just play for fun anymore, I want to start pulling some more wins. I also learned though that you can say “I want to win” as much as you want to, but in the end it all really just boils down to how bad you really want it. I obviously didn’t really want it that badly due to my lack of practice and poor performance generally when it comes to tournament matches, that is to be expected of course. You will only get back what you put into it, and a half-assed effort for improvement will just lead to a half-assed performance when you have to play tournament matches.
Whether you are very busy in your life or not, leveling up is something everyone can do. We all just have to get it together and not only put in the effort to get better, but more importantly do it because we like playing fighting games.
I don’t doubt there is a single person here that can’t use levels, but at the same time there isn’t a single person here who cannot help one another improve. Knowledge is a powerful thing, naturally if there is something you want to know then you seek it out until you find it. We have a bunch of good players here, I’m sure many of them would gladly help you out at something if you need improvement, I know for a fact I will utilize this as much as possible.
Sure, we all may live a considerable distance from each other but atleast we have a scene going, we should really utilize this and help eachother out so when something like SB comes we are ready to beat the best with our better.
SB4 was definitely a humbling experience for me, but at the same time it really showed me how many players worked so hard to get where they were for SB4, good shit to all of them.
Good shit to all of the STL crew that showed up to SB4, and good shit to the STL crew that stayed back and cheered us along. Lets make sure its someone from STL that gets that fight money next time!
Also, good shit to Jeff for showing everyone what was up in TvC. That man is an absolute beast in that game, I have no doubt STL houses one of the very best TvC players here in the states.
If there is anything else I forgot to mention, my excuse is that it is 3:30 AM in the morning and I am freaking tired.
Lets get hype STL! AR2 is coming soon, lets show everyone else whats up when that tournament rolls around.
