The first time I met him was when I was learning Tekken two or three years ago. He came in from california and just kept talking about how everyone here was free at MvC2 and blah blah. We played Tekken, and evidently he beat me once because when me and Glen went to his place he mentioned it at least seven times. He was also convinced I was 15 and kept asking me to go back to his apartment.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago. We get over there for a money match, and as soon as we drive in the parking lot he backs out. We get up there to play super, and he tells us he doesnt actually have the game. I got the impression he just wanted to play for fun and casually, which I guess is fair but as a player, my focus right now is on improving as much as I can for events like Max Out, AR, and other tournaments we travel to as a group. I would not have gone at all if super wasnt involved. Glen explains this to the guy and he goes on a tirade about how we’re not real gamers, trying to goad us into games. He goes on with his rant barely letting anyone get in a word for about a full fifteen minutes, trying to emphasize playing for the social element over playing to win as somehow superior and in the process talking hella shit towards us for only wanting to play super after driving 15 minutes to this guy’s house for that purpose.
It was pretty ridiculous, honestly.

I think in order to have a good gamer, you must belong in these 3 categories
Talent: You must have decent reaction and mental toughness. That’s a given. Not all people have these. Mental toughness can be developed. REaction is slowly going down hill over time though.
Experience: Experience in previous fighting games are important as well. You understand the concept of vs player. The game mechanics. Some are changed but the basics are still there.
The drive: Everybody mentality toward the games are different. It can be: beating the next guy sitting next to you, having fun or just better ourselves. I think this is a major factor determine good fighter.
Alen you have all 3 of these categories better than most of the players in STL. YOu’re young and experienced. Played cvs1/cvs2 before. A good foundation of basic. YOu put in the time in the past. NOw you don’t have to play a lot.
It’s not that you’re better than anyone as smarter person. You just have these 3 categories better than the rest:arazz:.
