Sticks for Joy: Charity Sticks (Pre-order SFJ shirts!)

Okay everybody. I’ve sat around long enough. Let’s do this again. New tournament year, new SFJ. People involved with the butteroj stick, I’m going to start sending PMs to get this all going again.

Tell me what I can do to help.
And then tell me someone got ahold of Mr. Chicken (last post of last page).

Thanks, Toodles.

So far, we have the basis in the stick you sent the PiiWee to, and all I know to ask for is your loving PCB support. If there’s honestly anything else you feel you can bring to the table, then let me know.

I’ve PMed Mr. Chicken.

Suggestion - Make a shirt and add a few dollars to the cost that is put toward the cause. We need new Tech Talk shirts.

I wore mine today.

Should it be a Sticks for Joy theme or a Tech Talk theme with a small Sticks for Joy? Or just Tech Talk to sponsor SFJ?

Also, hoodies, by any chance? I’d love to sport my Team Tech Talk on the outside.

You have my… donation*.

*Meaning I’m sending a new one again this year, obviously. Will get it to you sometime next week.

Hoodies sound 'spensive, but I’m up for whatever. You’ve got a sale to me even if you make thongs (fuck you no shimapan retardedness)

Awww. :lovin:

I’m going to try to change the paypal to the contact address. Just want to get the legal matters with a bank, which is the biggest hurdle with online stuff.

Also, I read in Hang Out Loud that we should go to individuals of the community. That’s actually a great idea, I think. We can use Duckie’s story to hopefully win over more SRK support. I just don’t know who we need to be helping or how in the world we find a case much like Duckie’s that would need our support.

Either way. I just think it’d be a good way to raise cash.

Okay. Let your opinions be known!

I may contact you for advice about the shirts. Just because you’ve done it before. I’ve got a local T-shirt shop, but I forgot the style of printing I should be looking for. You did such a good job with the TeamTechTalk. :lovin:

SFJ shirts?
i want in on that~

Sweet. I wonder if the other project that got put on hold can be revived. Still have half the parts for it too. Either way, count me in for something, even if it’s a donation.

Im here and will be ready to finsh in 2 weeks. Im in the middle of moving our dealership into a new 3 million dollar building!

Down for a shirt and donation again. Let me know what’s good.

In for a shirt and of course donation. Oh and i no longer have the feet i offered, sold em to Wildwon *you disappeared and we all thought this was dead. Will get you some if you some if needed or other parts if needed. let me know. For TT.

That’s okay about the feet. Now I don’t have to find socks for the joystick.

I sent this message to d3v, and he told me I should post it in this thread.

Okay, so currently we’ve got the somewhat finished butteroj stick. Planning to be triple wireless. We have: the Wii from Toodles. Leo from Gummo. Case from Butteroj. Steel Panel from Lightning Label. Parts, JLF and OBSF buttons, already are on hand from akihabarashop. You’ve done art, but I need to see it again. I happened to lose that in my file deletion via new HDD. But, it may need to be revised, for the credits.

I’m probably going to ask J&J Super Modding if they’d like to wire this stick. I know J&J Super Modding would easily beat out any possible wiring, and could all have the feature for wiring on the back credits.

I may be able to get another sponsorship from Focusattack and Foehammer for another stick, Jaleel was happy to lend a hand, and as a thanks for the videos I’ve been working on for his line of products.

Next big thing is the legal shebang. Want to get a lawyer to get the mess worked out, but god knows how expensive that will be. Maybe it would be less for helping out a non-profit, but there are still the state fees. I’ve got about $300 from the leftover Evo funds and the old donations, though I honestly gave $100 of it to Duckie in his time of need a day before the article was published, 6 days and $500 back on rent, it’s what I could do. It was the only money I really had after rent and holiday gifting, but I’m more than willing to pay all of it back into SFJ.

The important thing about this is getting a bank account to pour any funds into, and a way to have a fee-exempted PayPal account with a donate button.

Tournaments I can easily go to: CEO and Final Round. Do want to attempt the online deal, I know people want it, and it would raise a lot more money. We could easily consider elsewhere, but someone else will have to man the booth, and that was rough. I wouldn’t take any of it back, but I sat at it the entire time, like 12 hour shifts, surviving on the pizza Joe would bring me. I just don’t know if anyone else is really, really willing to do this. Evo’s a no-go for me, unless if people -really- wanted to send off again, but the prices are going to be ridiculously stupid. I mean, it was my purpose to be there, but if people really want to enjoy themselves, they’re going to lose a good bit of their enjoyment time there, unless if we employed shifts, which is… ehhh… It’s just easier to sit there the entire day.

Gonna get back on the website. everything’s a bit incomplete.

Have professional business cards. Didn’t have these at Evo, sadly, but I have enough to last whatever.

Banner would be a good thing to do. I think we’ve gotten our feet in the door, by just a few inches, at least. We just need to keep up, and I know this is my fault that things have fallen apart. I got too wrapped up in school, and had too many stupid HDD mounting and unmounting errors, but that’s fixed.

Next? Gotta find a better charity. I’ll try emailing Child’s Play. Red Cross Japan was very unhelpful. I never even got a receipt or anything, they’d hardly talk, since they go through $1500 pretty easily. Something smaller, but still a good cause.

Anyways, I really want to get this going again. We’ve all put a lot into this, and I’ve been letting everyone down not finishing it up.

After this, J&J said it would likely be better to do double wireless, to make power management easier.

Another thing that was posted, was by Duckie. Support individuals, not big businesses. I really don’t know how many cases there are like Duckie’s, but if we could just bring a more profound and direct change to one or two lives instead of being surmounted to a tiny, worthless organization by big organizations. Considering we raised $1500 our first go, perchance we could organize $1000 care packages to the people who are in their time of need, or hey, even a $1000 scholarship to exceptional students of the fighting game community. I don’t know, I’m just brainstorming, trying to give everything a touch

Publicity is also something we’ll need to work on, but I think the outreach to exceptional members of the community will possibly help give us an edge. Again, if anyone else has some other ideas, let me know.

Also, shirts sound excellent. I’ll check my local shirt shops to see if they do silk screened printing to give them a level of quality similar to the TeamTechTalk ones we received.

I think shirts are a great idea. I also think that for the stick this time around it would be cool to incorporate some of the new goodies that have come out since the last one (JLF w/Link and/or Spark OR LS-58, OBSC buttons, etc.).

Sticks for Joy Raffle for Duckie!

We’ll need a shimapan stick though.

EDIT: Sticks for Pantsu?

I’ll be going to CEO and Final Round. If you need someone to help out with a booth, i’m down for sure.

Whoa. Not a problem, though. Just let us know when you’ll be ready and when you get on it. I’ve contacted J&J, and James sounded somewhat interested via Hangout, but no guarantees yet. Gummo has offered his services, also.

While I’m not totally opposed to this idea, my only problem is that the community has already given to this. I doubt people want to give to it again. And I mean this with no offense to Duckie, it’s just that people will feel that “Why does this guy get all of the attention doing this, we already gave him, how much does he need, etc. etc.” I know there were a lot of people who bought tickets simply because they wanted to give to Japanese tsunami relief efforts, and I’d wager that it at least partially influenced a number of people. I’m (hoping) that if we go this route, there are other members of the community that we can help out.

I also want to try to avoid giving to modders as much as possible. Reason? It’s a bad stigma, really. “We’re going to make this organization so that we can benefit for ourselves!” But then, I feel that trying to give to members of the community like Duckie is a bit of a problem. His case would have still been perfect, though, had there not been his article, which goes back to my problem of the “sympathy being exhausted,” so to speak.

The cause is very important, and it’d be easier to find an established charity over individuals, or by becoming an established non-profit, but the establishing of that takes more than legal paperwork and stuff, it really takes the trust of the community for that, knowing that we’re going to donate to good causes. Now, that’s really easy when you give your money to an established charity, a bit harder when you’re giving it to people of the community.

Another thing with Duckie’s case is time. We just can’t raise that much in about 5 days, that’s hardly even a fraction the time to build a proper stick, get a raffle, etc. etc. Possibly in the future, if we were able to have sticks already finished, wait for when the time is right, and hold an online raffle, I think that’d work.

I really do love the idea of helping out individuals of the fighting game community. If you have any ideas on how to combat some of these problems, let me know.

Awesome. Good to know. A second person at a booth would be great.
