Sticks for Joy: Charity Sticks (Pre-order SFJ shirts!)

What else are you going to do with a broken XBOX? Turn it into an arcade stick?

Fix it?

EDIT: Whatever, this subject doesn’t need to derail discussion on the project. Let’s just leave it at “I still don’t get it.”

because its cool to do so
you obviously have never seen this video :3

You don’t know how tempting it is to simply hit “Edit Post” and change that and take the “not” out.

Hey project update on my end, I done all the repair/part replacement on the NES I was going to submit.
I had 1 working console with a cracked case, and 1 non-working console with a reasonable condition case (discolored from age) but doesn’t work. Well I sort of got it working but from the distorted sounds the sound chip is slowly dying, to I transferred the case to the other NES that does work (I also think the PPU or Picture Processing Unit in the 2nd NES is also showing its age).

Only issue is the new case has some yellowing from age, but this isn’t a huge issue since I going to vinyl dye the case any ways.
I am now just waiting for favorable weather to I can paint this bad boy outdoors.

i finally caught some good weather, got primer on the voltech case then a tornado hit like 20 miles away just a small one thought. so i been watching the weather radar to find brake points in the crapy weather. main issue for me is super hi humidity but chilly temps

Hmm, in light of recent events, I’ve been wondering if we should donate even at least part of the proceeds to Play for Japan.

That’s not a bad idea.

Think about this. Someone should contact some of the video game companies, peripheral makers, and other companies even remotely involved in the fighting game community and see if they want to match the final total of money generated by this project. I know a lot of companies already donated, but it’s worth a shot!

Also, if you want, I’ll do a write up (once the stuff is all ready) and send it out to the major gaming news sites for added publicity.

I thought about this, as well. I just didn’t know a good charity to give to, but this one seems to fit the bill. I’ll contact them as well.

I’ll try to look for a company to match. No guarantees, but I suppose it’s always worth a shot!

Sure, when we get to the publicity phase, I’m all for any and all promotion to spread the word. Hopefully we can at least get a front page feature, since this was born and raised on SRK. That would be cool. But again, I want to get these finished before we start promoting big-time. Nice to have a classy product to show before we get it all done, know?

As long as DSP sees the sticks, I’m good

Nerrage,

I donated cash to the cause a few weeks back, but the money still shows ‘unclaimed’. Did the paypal address change? I had it sent to SRKPremiuimStick@gmail.com

This!

How is this looking, good people?
Watching the Fight For Relief stream right now, and I just thought to check up on this to see the status of the projects.

Status: Currently trying to fight out all the legal hassles. I want us to be 100% legit (not by opening up a personal account, but by opening up a business account for Sticks for Joy), so I will be registering as a non-profit organization. However, that means that we may qualify for tax-exempt status, and all donations will be tax-deductible. Basically, these are the hoops I have to jump through to get us registered, with a bank account, which will allow us to move the money out of the paypal, and also gain that nice, big, yellow “Donate” button.

Sorry I haven’t been around. Been very busy. This and schoolwork has got me piled down.

Also, as Child’s Play was a bit hard to contact (nor do I think that they totally understood our cause), I’m considering to shift the recipient to Play for Japan. While they are mainly calling for cool auction gizmos to go to their cause, naturally, we’ll handle everything externally, and simply donate the money to them. I will contact them about promotion, though.

Posting a lot today.

New email address ready:

contact@sticksforjoy.org

PayPal address is still the same. All email from the old email will go to this one.

Also, this means sticksforjoy.org is now registered. Needs a few days to process and all that jazz before the website is up.

Contacted Play for Japan. They are actually not a non-profit organization, but rather, a website that is based on promoting auctions that are set up with eBay’s Giving Works. Because of this, they cannot directly accept donations, and they cannot promote us, unless if we auction the sticks, but I’m quite sure that we’ll make a ton more raffling, rather than auctioning.

So, we’re still back to Child’s Play, or anything else we can figure out. I still want a gaming-related charity, if possible. But I do understand if you guys would rather donate to something more direct to relief efforts to Japan, I’m totally in for that.

sticksforjoy.org is up. It’s basic for now, needs some work, but at least it’s easier to reference.

got the voltech case done and the balltop but I still have to paint the caps I did them once but I ended up changing the case color to a better match. So all I gotta do is paint them and I am done!!! so any time now I should have it wet sanded/couple days and I can send it back to voltech.

today was the first 70 degree day out here so I got that puppy done.

That’s excellent to hear. I really cannot wait for the results. All I know is that it’s going to be sick :wgrin:
