Looking back at these matches, I’m still face-palming at my lack of flicker stance pressure…but that’s what happens if you play a character for only a week. :stuck_out_tongue:

Really digging your team mate.

OFF TOPIC: How do you think Brian fairs up after the 2013 patch? Judging by the fact that he hasn’t made any tournament appearances, I’m guessing he got nerfed pretty hard. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not sure if anyone posts here anymore but:

Still trying to get better with this team

Lovely team you got there, mate. Though I only saw about 3-4 matches due to the school’s internet being buggy with Ultrasurf, I’d like to provide some feedback. Your Elena is decent in light of the fact that you have the general game-plan of looking for opportunities to go on the offensive nailed down. Your punishes with both characters were pretty on par. Your Steve, on the other hand, I can properly critique because I’m a Steve player myself.

Let’s go over some Pros and Cons of your Steve to keep things short & sweet.

PROS:
• Flicker cancelling pressure in the corner, although could use a lot of work, comes out in the flow of matches pretty naturally.
• Dat swag counter use in the 1:46 mark!
• BnBs are pretty simple but effective.
• Frame trapping game is ok.

CONS:
• Lack of use of Fox Hunt in combos before EX Sonic Fang. It doesn’t make too much of a difference, but the execution build up for other Ducking shinanigans is worth it.
• After pressuring slightly, you start to walk off. Steve without meter on the defensive = terrible. Steve against the wall without meter = dead Steve.
• Flicker cancel pressure and comboing needs to improve. Of course, that will come with time. You’re doing great so far.

Good job mate, can’t wait to see your other videos.

Thanks man, this is what I needed…someone telling me what I should be doing with Steve so I can start improving lol. Stopped using Elena and went back to Christie seeing as I’m more comfortable with her now. You’re right about the Flicker cancel pressure and comboing, still trying to get better with that at the moment.

With the walking off thing, I usually get scared that a wakeup DP will come out or something, need to get rid of that and take risks sometimes. Thanks for the feedback again, I really appreciate it!

No problem.

Wake-up DPs are always scary, especially when you have deathly-close chipp’able health left [and playing online, LOL!]. Best thing to do with wake-up DP abusers with steve is: 1). If you have the health, walk back and forth, throw some whiffed pokes to bait it out and block 1sec or in advanced. Punish with st HP into Flicker Cancel combo. 2). Move out of range BUT STAY CLOSE ENOUGH for your st/cr MP into st/cr LP to connect into big combos.

Anyways, keep training and post your progress.

Dropped a few combos but I’m going to stick with this team from now on

Good job there. I like your use of Christie more than Elena because… I like Christie more than Elena as a character. >.<

No help there, lol. But, the clear combo advantage you displayed using Christie speaks for itself. However, your neutral/poking game with Elena was much more sensible. Depends on what you want, really. I don’t know much about any of those two characters so I’m going to keep my mouth shut in that department.

Your Steve, on the other hand, seems to have matured. Your punishing game was on par this time around. Flicker cancelling pressure was missing but that’s really the last thing you should learn in terms of difficulty and practicality in real matches. You had a good single use of the counter and your weaving game is new but very handy. However, towards the end of the game, Alisa stuffed your jab (or whatever you were pressing… should have been jab though) after you weaved her jump in. So, be careful of scenarios like those. What I noticed most was your ability to capitalize on connected strongs by converting them into full combos. St/Cr strong is by far one of his best poke, if not THE best poke he has in his arsenal. The biggest negative, however, remains your lack of pressure. Around the 8:07 mark, you had an opportunity to pressure but dropped it altogether. Overall, to be honest, your Steve is pretty lacking in his neutral game. A huge plus Steve has is his frame trapping game. Learn to confuse your opponent with st/cr mp - st/cr lp links and you will get full combos if connected with the first mp, or will get an almost guaranteed frametrape if they start pressing buttons after blocking your mp. That’s just one of the ways to improve your Steve’s footsy game. Other than that, mp, lp, cr mk, british edge (f.mp-lp) are your go-to footsy tools.

Keep up the training and improve your Steve (and Christie) dude!

Thanks man, I really do need to work on my pressure and you’re right, my neutral game as a whole is lacking. I need to improve on my fundamentals to be honest. I also let him jump at me which isn’t good, back to the lab I go.

The reason I messed up around the 8:07 mark is because I tried to tag cancel the handstand>helicopter then bring back Christie with jab flicker or launcher but dropped it, it’s a new corner combo so I need to practice it more.

Steve mirror matches are so much fun!

That was a really fun watch! My favorite parts were the Peekaboo armor utilization, the weaving, and invincibility on the HK weave. Good stuff overall!
