Stargate Funding for TexasShowdown 5/Special Guests

:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: are u kurrrrazy? :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

hey MR. P-I-M-P, u gonna pay fo broke ppl?

im curious as to how you are going to get in contact with the japanese players… yeah if you want well-rounded, my first choice would be umehara fucking daigo… that bastard won like ggxx, super turbo, cvs2, and got 2nd or something in 3s at evo last year… beast indeed… how much nihongo praytell does mopreme and joe know?

and supposing i can come down to houston this summer with shadowcharlie… we might make a random appearance at stargate sometime this summer, hopefully… i would gladly donate some money to the fund regardless of whether i could come to TS5 or not…

A Dollar Isnt That Much ^^
Just Sacrifice Yer Lollycup Every Tuesday ^

That Way We Can Safe Lots Of Money

Hey i dunno if this might help but as a reward for those who want to win something for the weekly you pitch in for i can burn some new realease vcds like spiderman 2, riddick, and blah blah and give a copy of whichever they choose and if 2nd and 3rd want prizes too then they can throw in some extra cash. If not many ppl sign up like i hope then my prizes will stop cuz it will cost me even more to give em away and not even get enough cash for japan to come. let me know who’s up for this. by the way its just a start for prizes. i’ll look into other prizes i can come up with that won’t cost 2 much cash.

you buy lollicup too?!!:wtf: :wtf: okay, yea, ur paying my entry fee… fuck wat ya heard, lollicup is non-existant to me… except for chris’s sister… haha jk JK !!!

Eagerly awaiting for C-mutt’s reply

I’d be happy to put up room and board for the Japanese players. My brother will be out of the house by then which leaves 2 empty rooms for them. Jeaux could stay over too. Just get Kuni to come down!

Sorry I been out of the loop for so long. Had some major problems with work, family and friends.

I think it’s an interesting idea you have in attempting to bring in Japanese players to attract more Americans to Showdown, but I think Chris is right in that it is going to be a lot of work.

It would probably be better to first speak with someone, such as John Choi, who has experience in this type of thing, and just ask him questions about what is necessary, what is to be expected, and what are any factors or issues that we haven’t or probably wouldn’t think of. Everything sounds like it’s being considered to some degree, but you never know, a lot of times you really don’t know what to expect, and communication with someone who has already been there can give you a better idea of the types of problems and situations that you may not have thought of. Perhaps even trying to talk to any possible Japanese potential candidates at evo might not be a bad idea.

I hope that a cheap trip and free food and housing is enough incentive, because we won’t be able to offer them a pot as big as evo’s unless we generate a turnout as big as evo’s. If this is going to happen, I would think it best to have it established at least several months in advance, to let people know that it will happen, and to give them time for preparations.

I hope it works, it sounds like a fun idea.

Hey, Jesse, you should stop in sg for some ST. Haven’t seen you in too long.

Dang, you’re actually gonna try to pull it off after all, Lay?
Sounds good to me… shame I’m in Austin now :frowning:

If TS5 happens, there’s about 8-9 months to pull this off. Obviously, getting money is a concern. There’s about 30 or so Tuesdays till spring break (not counting the weeks of major holidays, like Thanksgiving or Christmas)
That’s probably overestimating by a bit, too… probably closer to 25 or so.
So basically, you need to bring in $24 each weekly to get $600 from just entry fees. If you charge a 50c entry fee per game (ex. pay $1 to get into CvS2 and MvC2) then that’d mean you need something like 16 people playing 3 games each week. Not too terrible, some weeks will have a lot which could help offset the weeks where nobody shows.
If people donated somehow, that’d help cover for low attendance weeklies, too. Heck, if you got even half of the non-Texas US players at Evo to donate like a quarter, that’d be a really good start.

On the money side, this is very possible.

Housing seems to be covered already, or at least we have a bunch of offers. Transportation isn’t looking too bad, either.

Main concern is getting in touch with some Japanese players to determine their interest and the possibility of them coming, plus communication. Let them know early so you can figure out if it’s worth going through all this effort. Evo is the absolute latest you should get in touch with them, so they can figure out getting time off or whatever.

Japanese cabinets? Just fly them in early and make them practice on US cabinets XD

Great idea, looks like the basic framework is there, and you have a couple of months to figure out specifics. Sounds like I need to make plans to go to TS5

I Still Think It Should Be A Dollar

u n me will play a pre-tuesday tourney match, if i win, u pay for me, if i lose, i’ll pay ur stupid dollah… if not!! stfu bout the dollah!!! i a broke ass!!!

50c is reasonable, people will probably be willing to pay an extra 50c if it means getting some Japanese players to come to TS5. I doubt you’ll lose too many entries over 50c.

A dollar, though… that’s pushing it. Not everybody has money to throw around so they can lose more money when TS5 comes around. $1 entry fee might alienate some players, which could screw the entire plan over if people don’t want to pay.

I dunno, I have a decent amount of spending money most of the time but I wouldn’t spend an extra dollar just to play in a weekly where I can’t win any prizes anyhow.
$1 would mean 4 games at 25c a game… why spend an extra dollar (worth 4 games) if you’re going to enter a tournament to play 2 games (if you go 2 and out)?
Might as well get in 6 games, you know?

Whereas, 50c isn’t exactly a huge sacrifice. 2 games, not too bad, and it’s going towards bringing in some foreign (Japanese) talent.

The 50c plan is very feasible. And if you’re willing to put in a dollar per weekly, just donate that extra 50c a week to the cause =P
